Public Service Announcement: Don't file false GM reports

Support forum agent Nevalistis points out that false reports are is against the Game Master interaction policy. Each GM petition is taken seriously, and if the GMs see a pattern of frivolous or false reports, they can and will take action from warnings all the way up to suspension or permanent account closure.
Those of us who have tried to petition a GM lately know how long the queue times are -- so from all of us with legitimate problems, please make sure your ticket is legit. It may save your account, it may save a GM's sanity, and it'll certainly help those with real problems get the help they need a little faster.

Long, long ago, when WoW was young, I submitted a petition complaining that the pants my human priest was wearing made her butt look big. When the GM responded, we had one of the most entertaining conversations I've had, and one of my favorite memories, in-game. I guess those days are over now, huh? GM is srs bizness!

Being friendly and having a fun conversation with GM's is fine - just have them whilst talking about a proper problem rather than filing random rubbish..
One thing I never understood was why GM's have a conversation with you when you file a bug report (since there isn't a dedicated bug forum anymore) - but I had a nice talk with a GM when I sent a report about the incorrect [25,000 Conquest Points] achievement

What? There's still one.

GMs are there to help users with their ingame problems. They aren't dancing monkeys whose sole purpose is to amuse bored players. Isn't that what Trade/Barrens chat's for? They try to make it fun as a way of defusing tempers, because if you're filing a legit ticket, you're probably already somewhere between annoyed and pissed off and it's the GM's job to make sure you keep subscribing to the game.

I'm an EU'er http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/forum/
No idea why we don't get a bug forum :(

I'm sure GMs really appreciate offbeat, fun petitions (as long as they're genuinely fun and genuinely original rather than yet another joke they've heard a dozen times before even coming to work). That's very different from people trying to cheat. "Fun" stuff probably doesn't take up much time at all, compared to investigating a petition that turns out to be a lie or trying to weasel out of the consequences of something you did wrong, and even if it does take up time, well hey, GMs are people too and giving them a break from serious stuff just makes their mood better for the next person. Cheating doesn't.

Within the past year I got this hilarious ticket response:
"This is in regards to your recent petition about the gravity defying NPCs of Azeroth. At last the secret is out, NPCs are all part of a massive gravity worshiping cult. As they go about their daily lives they are blissfully ignorant of this boon from their dark group. Also this keeps them safe from the effects of random mind controls from passing Blood Elves. Who would chop lumber or mine our gold if all our valued NPCs lay in heaps at the bottom of cliffs? So, good travels and feel free to Control any NPC off a cliff, they show no fear as they know gravity is on their side. If this didn’t answer your question please let us know and we’ll take another look. "

The last ticket I files wa legit. We were doing Uld 25 mount run. The achievement for that guy with the killable arms bugged out. We did all the rest fine. The next day I got the mount in the mail. I was so happy.

Filed* was*
That's not to say that I filed any false tickets though.

Playing during the Christmas season of WoW's release, I put a ticket in because my hunter wasn't able to learn the tame pet skill. The intro I got from the gm was, "Ho ho ho I'm the hunter spells fairy!" Good times.
Samuel Mar 8th 2011 8:24PM
As a CSF regular, I agree with this. If every ticket filed was for a legitimate reason, the ticket queue would likely be cut in half, if not more.

I'd wager that out of all gm reports, 1/4th at most are false reports, the rest are legit, or random crap that is moot

Common sense isn't. This is the internet.
