Many years ago I played a text based RPGMMO. The travel was limited to pretty much walking everywhere, or taking one of two boats to access newer areas. I came up with the idea of flying boats and griffons to move around the zones.

I was both depressed and overjoyed when I played WoW for the first time. ;)
