Completely understand your position. Personally, playing WoW at the moment is becoming a drag, our raid team is in a similar predicament with not enough regulars on, most of us have kids and commitments, add to that the steep increase in time required vs. Wrath raiding and it's a struggle to login for anything except PvP. I'm hesitant to try another game due to the time I've invested in my characters but there are times where I really want to :) I play to relax but it isn't feeling really relaxing lately. I know people will say 'just run heroics' but a) there's only so many times you can run the same dungeons before they get annoying; b) my personal gear etc. is not the barrier to raiding but I'd like to raid with my friends not strangers.
Fingers crossed 4.1-2 bring some enthusiasm back.

I'm curious about this "steep increase in time." My own 10-man is only raiding 2 nights a week for 3 hours each. It's not very much time at all, but we make good progress. Slow, but good. We're 8/12 right now. Thus I don't see a time increase at all. It actually seems to require less time to me since I no longer feel compelled to run 2 versions of each raid a week or 4 with ToC.
