It's times like these, reading the lore of the game, that makes me wish that we hadn't killed Illidan in Outlands. I feel that Blizzard could have done so much more with his character, but they basically made him go insane because he lost a battle with Arthas.

I see it now... We're going back through the Caverns of Time to prevent our level 70 selves from killing Illidan! XD

He was insane long before that...

Our 70 selves wouldn't stand a chance.

Illidan surviving the battle with Arthas was a retcon in any case. He shouldn't even have been alive for TBC. I guess being run through at the foot of the frozen throne was merely a setback. (And having typed that paragraph, I'm suddenly sad that the last two expansions had awesome bad guys. Cataclysm has a dragon that sort of wanders around and rarely and arbitrarily kills lowbies)

Actually Nat... thats a dam cool idea. I hope it really does happen

@joff_graham:>implying Deathwing couldn't have crushed both of the previous "awesome bosses" under his front paw without trouble

I would have to agree with joff. Deathwing just doesnt seem to have that degree of awesome that Arthas and Illidan had. Then again, I'm a Warcraft 3 junkie, so I'm probably incredibly biased.

@Joff- Illidans' surviving the battle with Arthas was NOT a retcon. blizzard has stated that, although they wanted to do a full CGI cinematic of their fight, they were forced to turn to the game itself for the cutscene due to a shortage of time. It was never intended that Illidan die there; he was cut down, believed to be dead by Arthas (who was much more concerned about getting to the Frozen Throne anway), and was then retrieved by Kael'Thas Sunstrider and Lady Vashj. They whisked him to Outland and nursed him back to health.
