Awesome. I have *got* to get my fire mage up to 85 in time to get the title and the new loot. The scythe doesn't really suit her (though I wouldn't say no), but the new Shroud of Winter's Chill? Yes please. ^_^

Good to see they're updating, but won't we severely outgear the 353 cloaks by the time midsummer fest comes out?
Sky Mar 16th 2011 9:59PM
They're for new 85's who don't wanna spend VP on the cloaks. The 353's have similar stats and are only slightly inferior to the Valor point cloaks.

why does the casting staff have 700 stam but no intel?
Mal Mar 16th 2011 9:31PM
^This.

It can only mean one thing, mages are taking, mages are taking, Mage are gonna take again.
Sigh if it only it was true
Eros Mar 16th 2011 9:41PM
They probably just scale up the 232 version of the staff which, after 4.0, had only stam on it.
Spazmoose Mar 16th 2011 10:39PM
The staff may not have any intellect, but it does have over 1800 spell power on it. Blizzard did say long before that there would be certain items (specifically weapons) that would have spell power on them instead of intellect.

I can already feel the incoming debate of
"Its druid tank staff with that much stamina it has crit haste which are "threat stats" and stamina which is survival stat maybe it has some spellpower"
(Hint: its not..)
Pugger: "Durr I'm gonna reforge the spellpower to dodge(hint: you cant) dont worry m8, need, win, leave group. Buh bai"
themightysven Mar 17th 2011 8:16AM
Last year the staff was the special item that clould drop from the loot bag, so it's not an issue of ninjaing, and if a bear gets it it doesn't mean a caster can't. I remember this because the number of times I saw a paladin or dk get it while I was still wait was quite high
Drakkenfyre Mar 17th 2011 11:23AM
Massive amounts of staves lost Intellect. Since Intellect is now Spell Power, the staff has Spell Power only since that makes it a "Caster weapon", and putting Intellect on it would be double-dipping.
To separate whether a weapon is a caster weapon or not, Spell Power is used to distinguish.
Randomize Mar 16th 2011 9:24PM
No Intellect on the staff at all? It'd work for pvp thanks to the gobs of stamina, but having an epic be inferior to a heroic blue (see: http://www.wowhead.com/item=56461 ) or be inferior to a pvp epic for pve play ( http://www.wowhead.com/item=64695 ) just seems a little dumb.
The cloaks on the other hand look spectacular.
Baba Mar 17th 2011 6:11AM
Do the heroic then? Herp derp.
Sleutel Mar 17th 2011 8:49AM
A *lot* of itemization this expansion has just been bizarre and inexplicable.
Nopunin10did Mar 17th 2011 10:46AM
I have a feeling that's an unintentional bug.
Zaet Mar 16th 2011 9:56PM
if i have the old scythe from last year will it be upgraded?
Eros Mar 16th 2011 10:08PM
Its a different item that uses the same model, so no.
Throm Mar 16th 2011 10:24PM
Why is there no frostscythe melee weapon yet? It seems like a perfect death knight weapon.
Richard Merrick Mar 17th 2011 3:13AM
Thematically, yeah that could work. Otherwise, it just seems like a cop-out. Besides, I cannot count the amount of times I've seen melee weapons (and some stat sticks like for hunters/feral druids) that I only WISH were itemized for casters, instead, based on their in-game models.
Sure, casters get a pretty good number of nice-looking things but the other weapons just overwhelm them as far as my memory can recollect. Having this weapon model for casters practically makes up for this as it is just that awesome.
Regardless, speaking for weapons IN GENERAL now...I really wish that every single holiday which provides weapons for one section of players would have alternate ones (different models, obviously) for EVERYONE ELSE.
However, I doubt this would ever be implemented as Blizzard wants each holiday to feel unique in addition to also not encouraging the blathering band-wagon of 'WoW is too homogenized' to lunge at their proverbial throats any further.

because the estate of john forsythe would not allow...
what?
oh, you mean. Yes, well, my bad.
never mind.
