Breakfast Topic: Where are the dropped quest lines?
This Breakfast Topic has been brought to you by Seed, the AOL guest writer program that brings your words to WoW Insider's pages.
I am a reader, and there is nothing I love more than a well-written, intricate plot -- and nothing I hate more than reaching the end of the story, only to find some of those plot strings dangling unresolved, leaving me wondering exactly what happened. I run into the same problem with missing quests in WoW. There are a couple of quests that I desperately wish existed in the game for me to enjoy.
Where is Magatha? There needs to be a quest to find and bring back Magatha Grimtotem to justice, and it would be even better if you had the option of bringing her back dead or alive. My tauren would cut her down where she stood, while my blood elf would shrug and bring her back alive.
The Missing Eggs -- if you have read The Sundering, you know that Krasus rescued Blue Dragonflight eggs and set them outside of time to prevent them from being destroyed. I want to find them, to present them as the resurrection of the Blue Dragonflight and see it change the world.
With the Battlemaid visions of the past, I would love to be involved in things that occurred during the Shattering or the Sundering, to see what happened and be there (in spirit at least) for part of it.
What quests or storyline threads are dangling out there that you want to be involved in resolving? Do they take place in the past or the present? Who do you think escaped from their just desserts a little to easily?

@Chris
Also, Erankis has a role in the book Stormrage. It follows up on both previous stories, and adds to it.

Same here!

Thanks Cyrus - sounds like a lot of work. I'd probably just have kept the trinket...

In addition to the Scepter quests, there's one extra thing they added in Cata which ties in. The questline dead-ended in Winterspring, where you handed over the chained essence to Umbranse the Spiritspeaker who promised to commune with Eranikus but offered nothing further. Quest in Winterspring now, and you'll eventually find him, and what he's been up to...
gamerunknown Mar 17th 2011 9:45AM
Perenolde Tiara should have led somewhere interesting, as should the chained essence of Eranikus.
Ken Richardson Mar 17th 2011 10:00AM
I'd love to see a continuation of the Chained Essence of Eranikus. It ended pretty abruptly in Swamp of Sorrows and always felt really unfinished. had it not been abbressed in Cataclysm my answer would have been Uldum, since we first got sent to the gates in the early 40s with the Disks of Norgannon.

I'd like to know what happened to Calia Menenthil. We have a deposed true queen of lordaeron somewhere in the world. Did she die? Has she arisen as forsaken? Is she still alive somewhere in hiding?
Also, we have 4 big trees scattered about the world, with large shiny portals in front of them. I've been hoping since vanilla that blizzard would 'activate' them. Emerald dream stuff, please.
Boobah Mar 17th 2011 3:20PM
It's down to three now, since one of the first things players do when they start questing in Feralas is close the portal there.

You can find Magatha's latest triumphs in Thousand Needles. You turn her into a raid boss at the end of the zone.
Wulfkin Mar 17th 2011 10:39AM
One word: Mankrik!
The guy mopes around for years mumbling about his wife, and then finally, *finally* Cataclysm gives him his own epic questline where he kills potentially billions of quillboar and becomes an epic hero...
... except the bloody questline is unfinished! You get sent to bring him back to the shaman camp, hoping to pull him back from the brink, and nothing happens! Nothing at all. Damn you Blizzard, doesn't the poor Orc deserve a better ending than this?
mesafx Mar 22nd 2011 8:34AM
My favorite quest line dropped before resolving is from vanilla wow about disks of titans found in Uldaman. While we finding new ones questing in Uldum it's still unknown how this story ends.
Marlene Mar 17th 2011 10:47AM
I think the one in Western Plaguelands with the silly troll trying to become a druid. We had two quests with him and then nothing. I would have liked to follow him though his training.
If there is more I am missing let me know. :)

- Do something with Arator the Redeemer please. He's the son of two major lore characters and appears to be a paladin of some renown if he has a title, but he does nothing! At the very least Blizzard could give him something to do until they find a way to put Turalyon and Alleria into the game. His counterparts Garrosh Hellscream and Dranosh Saurfang got expanded roles...why not Arator?
-The *real* conclusion of the worgen starting area. The current ending is so Obvious Beta that it's painful to look at. Shipping the worgen off to Darkshore to be night elves 2.0 while finishing (or not?) the rest of the quests is sloppy as hell, especially when playing as the worgen race is one of the main selling points of the expansion. Also, they need to give Alliance characters a formal introduction to Ivar Bloodfang. Most Alliance players don't know who he is or why he's hunting Godfrey in the SFK quests. As it stands now, the quests seem to operate under the assumption that you've leveled a Horde character through Silverpine Forest. Rumor has it that the Alliance were supposed to get quests that mirrored the Silverpine Forest experience, but they got cut for time, resulting in the Obvious Beta ending mentioned earlier and Alliance players meeting a questgiver in SFK they should be familiar with but aren't. The ball dropped here is almost as big as the one dropped on the draenei.
-That quest on Bloodmyst Isle where Vindicator Saruan was hinted to have turned into something monstrous and that we would encounter him soon...but we never did.
-Hell, the draenei in general. Even Blizzard admitted the dropped the ball on them.
-The return of Danath Trollbane to Stromgarde has been hinted at, and I hope they implement this. Danath coming back and reclaiming Stromgarde from his now-undead cousin could be an epic story.
- Lillian Voss. Her story has potential, and it would be a shame if they just dropped it.
-Jarod Shadowsong. He shows up during Hyjal questing with no explanation as to where the hell he's been for the last ten thousand years or so. Does Shandris know he's still alive? Who knows!
-Speaking of Shadowsongs...Maeiv. Is she alive? Does she know her brother's alive (or even if she cares)? Is she helping Akama with cleansing the Black Temple? Did she die?
-Where is Gallywix? He just...disappears after the starting area. No explanation is given, and some random Trade Prince is in his villa instead. Again, no explanation given as to who this guy is or why he's in Gallywix's villa.
-CALIA MENETHIL. That is all.
o0amber0o Mar 17th 2011 12:10PM
I have faith in the Lilian Voss story - I think she'll be popping up again in the future (I hope anyway, she really does add an interesting tangent to an already interesting story).
I'm with you on the Worgen starter zone. I was SO excited to go through that! I quested merrily through and then BAM I'm in Darnassus? What? I get that the Night Elves were like the American's French but geeze, I felt like I was just dropped there because someone didn't want to continue the story of the Worgen. Aside from taking my Worgen over to Westfall to experience those new quests - I really kind of put her on the back burner to go through the new undead quests. If they can revamp an entire race's questlines, surely they could've done a little better on an entirely new race?

Magni Bronzebeard.
Come on, you can't turn the dwarf king into a diamond statue without at least explaining what happened!
Dankie Mar 17th 2011 12:26PM
Magni's story was told in the Shattering. The book's wonderful, and there's even an illustration in the back of the event that turns him into diamond. Well worth the read, go find it at your local library!
Shadowwind Mar 17th 2011 1:28PM
Not only that, but in the next patch, we'll be able to go into Old Ironforge and actually see him ourselves. That said, I really REALLY hope that some day we'll get the chance to find a way to reverse the transformation.
Vitos Mar 17th 2011 2:08PM
Your king is now Diamonds!

Aside from some of the ones mentioned - The Missing Diplomat, and the strangeness of being a tauren helping an enemy of the taurens, I can't think of a specific storyline.
But, I would have liked to see some kind of scene where the shattering happens. As far as our characters know, they 'went to bed one night' and woke up and stuff was destroyed/changed. This does happen with natural disasters, people wake up either because of it or after it to see the destruction.. but there are witnesses - people who see things happening. Some that live to tell the story, others who don't survive. We know that we all, our characters, survive.. there wouldn't be a game if they didn't. We know of people in the game who didn't survive (Brann, Cairne), but what about someone who witnessed something and lived to tell about it. There are those quests in Darkshore where you help rescue people that were in Auberdine and bring them to Lordinel. What if there was a cutscene where we get to see (more of) what happened there. I know we saw in the cinematic the wave crashing into the bridge and destroying it.. which destroyed the inn that was attached to it. What I think would have been neat to see is before that happened. People in the inn, then the sky gets weird, the waves come up and destroys the bridge/inn and so on.
Or, something I just thought of. There is an achievement called surveying the damage, where if you go look at certain places hardest hit, you get the achievement. It would be cool if this were a kind of collected quest thing like the Nessingwarys that grant achievements. The first could be started in either stormwind (or orgrimmar, but I'm not familiar with the horde side of this), but lets say that from the stormwind board, you're sent to go talk to someone in darkshore. So you go there, and when you talk to the person you see what happened there. When that quest completes, that person tells you that there is more destruction to see, go talk to someone else some where else (thousand needles, and I forget the other 3-4 places). Where each one shows you what happened in that place, and the last one sends you back to the town you started in to tell "the guy", in the stormwind example - Varian, what you have seen.
I realize thats not going to happen, but it woulda been cool. :)

When is everyone at Fordragon Hold going to finally shut the hell up?
