PTR Patch 4.1: New code hints at random dungeon change

What this seems to suggest is that instead of doing one random heroic dungeon per day to gain valor points, the system will be changed so that the first 7 random heroics you do, no matter which days, will grant valor points. This is an awesome change for those of us who do not play every day and instead like to stockpile our heroic dungeoneering on the weekend.LFD_RANDOM_REWARD_EXPLANATION1 = "The first seven random dungeons of this tier that you complete each week will earn you:";
Many of us weekend warriors have been asking for this very specific change to the random dungeon "highest tier" badges/points reward system since the beginning of the random heroic system. Hopefully this wonderful change makes it to live.

I will be the *first* to say that I can't wait for this. I'm a casual. YAY FOR ME.

I agree with what you say, but not the way you said it. Thus I cant decide if I should vote you up or down. Pondering...
...
My hatred of people posting "first" has overridden my agreement with your statement. Down voted. Sorry!

Rereading my reply, I realize that I may have come off as a bit of a jerk. Not my intention.
With the exception of the five-letter F word, I echo your sentiments. I consider myself a Casual player - I'm not a raider, and I don't PvP, so my end game options are pretty much limited to 5 mans and dailies. In addition, I've got minimal free time during the week, so being able to run a couple dungeons on a weekend and still get credit as if I had done them on individual days sounds outstanding to me.

I like this because it is very similar to the way honor and conquest works, where you have a weekly limit to the amount of points you can accrue. This seems very fair since after all you can still only get 70*7=490pts per week from heroics YET earn more still thru raiding. So yeah the more casual players still feel a level of accomplishment and not just the hardcore raiders!

I like the change for an additional reason. Usually, I can play every day. Sometimes I'll skip for some reason. Weekly points make that nice. The other side, is that running as dps, I'm at the whim of a group. If my group doesn't complete the run and I don't have time for a second try, I don't get my points. If it's a weekly cap, I may luck out and get two runs in that can compensate on another day.

Game changer. Better make it in.
MrJackSauce Mar 17th 2011 10:55PM
I agree. Can't get much better than this for someone that chefs 50 hours a week!
redfoxm18 Mar 17th 2011 7:06PM
This would be so helpful. I'm so busy with work and family during the week the only time I have to play for several hours at a time is on the weekend. Me like :-)

@Mat McCurley
If this goes as plans like you say, I'm with you wholeheartedly.
At least it'll be less stressful since I don't get on till after work at night and on the weekends..
Samuel Mar 17th 2011 7:09PM
Does it reset every day or every week though?
Samuel Mar 17th 2011 7:09PM
Nevermind, I read it too fast. >.

I really wish they'd do more changes like this across the board to help people who'd rather play in bursts.
Draykin Mar 18th 2011 12:46AM
This, so much this. I hate dailies because it makes WoW feel like a job, having to get on every day for your dailies. I've wanted a way to make them weeklies for some time now.
BadAndyMk3 Mar 17th 2011 7:19PM
This woudl be wonderful. Some days I feel like cranking out two or three dungeons in a row, some days I don't even want to do one.
Qot Mar 17th 2011 7:20PM
I'm a bit less enthusiastic. When I'm in full-play mode (not "too much to do in RL" mode like I'm in now), I'll typically run a daily heroic unless there's a raid or something else going on. Doing a heroic and then a full raid... It's really too much play time for me on a single night.
I also rarely (if ever) do chain dungeons, preferring to do a dungeon on my main (healer) and my alt (tank/dps) rather than do the same playstyle twice. It helps keep the game fresh. As a result, I'll typically only run 5 or 6 heroics a week on any character.
If this is a full switch (no daily points, only weekly points), I've gone from 5 rewards to none unless I bracket out additional time for dungeon crawls on non-raid nights. If this is a bonus (i.e., you get one reward per day, but if you do seven per week, you're bumped up to a net total of seven rewards), that's fantastic. I just hope they don't penalize one play schedule to accomodate a different play schedule.
Alchemistmerlin Mar 17th 2011 7:27PM
Wait...how does this penalize one?
It looks like people who do 1 a day will still get the same rewards they get now...and the people who do 7 in one day will get the rewards they would get if they did 1 per day.
Seems win/win to me...
PeeWee Mar 17th 2011 7:31PM
From the text description, this is a pure win-win for you, provided you do do those 5-6 dungeons a week. If you do one extra dungeon on a char one evening, you'll get the rewards one more time than you'd do now.
mazca13 Mar 17th 2011 7:32PM
I'm not sure I understand your concern - by my reading of this, you will still be getting the same valor point rewards every time you complete a dungeon, but you'll get valor points the first seven heroics you complete in a week, rather than the first one in a day. It does not penalize any playstyle - if you do one heroic a day, you'll still find yourself doing seven a week and the rewards will be unchanged. But if you play in bursts, you can say do three on Wednesday and four on Sunday and get the same rewards as the daily player.
Guttsu Mar 17th 2011 7:36PM
I don't think you quite understand what is being said here. So I'll break it down.
7 days in a week, right now each day you can get credit for 1 heroic per day. So 7 per week total.
Soon you'll be able to get credit for those 7 per week, but at any pace you want. 3 on Wednesday and 4 on Saturday. It doesn't change anything really other than make life more convenient .
Noyou Mar 17th 2011 8:30PM
Wow. First of all this is awesome. I am not a big fan of DF but I am if this makes it live. As far as being critical of it. This totally caters to ALL playstyles. You can run your one random per day or all 7. You get the same rewards no matter which way you do it. Unless I am really bad at the math (which I have known to be). I am so looking forward to this change. This plus only needing 3/5 for guild runs as a win for the smaller guilds. If you want to rip on them for that, go right ahead. Don't mind me while I smile through it though :p
