The Queue: This is the best Queue in the world
Whereas on Tuesday I wrote the worst Queue in the world, today, my dear readers, I present the best. Why? Because of the two -- count 'em, two -- awesome machinimas featured.
The first one, above, is Baron Soosdon's This Device Has Been Modified. It was really the first machinima in WoW that I went, "Holy crap, that's great."
After the break, we we have the second featured machinima, making this Queue so full of awesome you'll be BLINDED.
Neothanos asked:
I've been seeing a lot of posts on the Blizz forums of guild imploding over the Cataclysm changes. Did Cataclysm cater too much to the very vocal very active hardcore crowd?
As was mentioned in the comments, the observations about Cataclysm are entirely subjective. One thing that we can say with relative certainty is that each expansion always causes feelings like it's the end of the world for guilds -- and then it turns out it's really not. BC was supposed to destroy WoW because 40-mans were gone, and Wrath was supposed to destroy WoW because no one would want to run 25-mans because there were 10-mans of everything. And now Cataclysm is causing problems.
But at the end of the day? Everything is normal. Guilds go through the most drama when there's change, but that's not a function of WoW. That's a function of humanity.
Marzim asked:
If a person leaves a guild will they start at 0 rep when joining another guild?
Yes, they'll start over at zero. Once you leave a guild and join another, your reputation is cleared. According to some people in the comments that have tried this, Blizzard doesn't automatically clear your reputation forever when just first leave the guild and haven't joined another, so you can rejoin right away if need be and not be penalized.
Cutaia asked:
Recently, I was waiting at the bus stop when suddenly I saw my friends. The problem is, there were people in the front seat and people in the back seat. Are there any theorycrafting resources which can help me determine which seat I should take?
You know that Family Guy episode where Peter sings about the bird being the word, and at one point Brian asks him what he's talking about, and Stewie goes "Brian, don't!"?
That's what everyone just yelled to you.
But back to your question: I believe Rebecca Black has some answers for you. At the end of the day, you'll want to sit in the back seat so you can sit up on it and let your hair wave in the wind. Just be sure to buckle up.
I hope this answer has both been informative and mind-numbing.
Frank asked:
Has Blizz ever talked about updating Wintergrasp so that it's relevant (or at least balanced) again? It was my favorite BG.
It hasn't, and unless it does something in some expansion in the future so that Northrend is central to the story again, I highly doubt Blizzard will put the time into it. It would be nice to see again, don't get me wrong -- but just don't expect it.
And finally, here it is folks: This Queue is now the best Queue in the world.

My experience was it gets cleared on joining a new guild and there is a warning which appears when you get a guild invite.

I have to lean towards the side that thinks saying that Cata itself isn't causing guilds to implode, and the guild exp/rep system isn't part of it, is staggeringly naive.
Simply put, the existence of the new guild system makes comparison to BC or Wrath foolish to do, because that system didn't exist then. Smaller guilds have to deal with a higher entry curve on heroics and on raids, keeping members who wish to progress faster, and recruiting people is more difficult. Why join a level 8 guild when you're in a level 20 guild already? The perks may be minor, but speaking as a co-GM who has a guild imploding for all of these reasons, they are enough to impede recruitment. (And my guild is level 16, for the record.)
Smaller casual guilds got CREAMED by a perfect storm of design intent by Blizzard. And saying it doesn't exist, or is the same as what went before? Maybe not in the guilds that the staff here or the more "exalted" posters are in, but trust me, it's going on.

Not a guild leader, but this is my experience also. It's actually weird-- /guildrecruitment has quieted down so much over the last week or so that I've had to check if I was still in the channel. And I've only seen one completely new guild trying to recruit since January.
My impression is that guild levels added a way to quickly, objectively and in advance compare non-progression guilds that simply didn't exist before. I mean, /ginfo is useless because the number of toons in a guild tells you nothing.
Basically, Blizzard shoved the smaller, casual, and/or semi-casual guilds headfirst into the race with the big guilds and the hyper-focused guilds. It's like comparing 2dBoy (World of Goo) to Blizzard using their stock prices.
Whatever else, this particular topic has prompted me to do a couple of things:
1. Discover that I would have to clone the main toon of the next biggest guild XP contributor to even approach what I'm putting in. And that's after adding all the associated the alts to the main toon.
2. Re-install the CensusPlus addon, because I want to know just how small the pool of unguilded non-bank characters is on my realm. I remember one of the facets you can look at is guild, with "None" being an option. Other guilds may want to take note of this to focus their recruiting on level-appropriate zones.
For me, at least, guild leveling in a small guild has turned WoW into a continuation of real life instead of a break from it. I'm now leaving my job to go to my other job.

Dear the Queue,
How annoying is it when people spell queue as 'que'? I'm thinking slightly annoying, but sometimes it feels like moderately annoying.
MattKrotzer Mar 17th 2011 7:16PM
Probably about as annoying as some Night Elf RPers I know who don't consider their NE names to be proper if they have less than 5 vowels per consonant.
Kurash Mar 18th 2011 1:29AM
Every time I see it spelled that way I think, "¿Qué?" :)
Wolfshanze Mar 18th 2011 8:46AM
Probably not as annoying as the "proper" spelling being too-long if-not wrong in the 1st place.
Since "Queue" is pronounced "Que", which in itself, is already too-long, because technically, you could just spell it "Q" and people would still pronounce it correctly, you're lucky we don't hang all the people that spell it "Queue" which seems to be phonetically saying "Q-E-U-E", which is really annoying.

Thank you for your input, Sunaseni.
The fact remains that guild perks have had a detrimental affect on smaller guilds.

"
Interesting. You meant no insult, but then used intentionally sarcastic and insulting terms to refer to the people you claim not to be insulting.
At this point, Bynde, I think you ought to stop interpreting any disagreement with your opinion as a personal attack."
I'm sorry you associated yourself with the terms 'Fanboy" or "High Court".
And I only insult after I was insulted, in case you were interested in the timeline of the discussion.
Kurash Mar 18th 2011 1:33AM
Read my post again—you quoted it right there. I didn't associate myself with anything. I was pointing out the blatant falseness of your "apology."
Bynde Mar 18th 2011 8:52AM
And you ignored how all this started.
That 'blatant falseness' is also sometimes called 'sarcasm'.

Actually, I've found that on a mostly horde populated server, this has been nice. The Alliance has been able to control WG more than it ever used to.
Bynde Mar 18th 2011 8:57AM
lol, THAT got downfisted ? I suppose at this point anything I post will get the downfisty treatment.
Puppies!!!
Awesome Mar 17th 2011 6:01PM
gah, these Machinimas ALMOST make up for that...evil. The scar remains though.
However, I have a serious question for the queue (hopefully you answer anything WoW-related) which is, do you have any idea how much time, skill, and type of programs to make Machinimas? Along the lines of the "Hide & Seek" one featured to today, and the one called "Curse" which has released its first part and is currently being developed. I'd like to make Machinimas, but I don't know if I'd have the time, skills, and programs to do so. Thanks in advance if answered.

I have a question for a queue!!!
The other day I decided to hunt for mining nodes. I was in TBP and after finishing dailies I decided to go to the other island (horde had it at the time). Going there I went around a trek that took maybe about an hour and half. Along the way I ran into like probably 7-10 pyrite deposits. So my question is this: Are pyrite deposits on TB really that common?

When sailing from Stormwind to Northrend, for a few seconds the ship is in Elwynn territory. If, in a display of exceptional timing, Deathwing torched Elwynn during those seconds, would everyone on the boat die?
Rimshot Mar 17th 2011 11:57PM
That would be hard to test. However, if it does happen, that is one of the single greatest ways to earn the [Stood In The Fire!] Achievement, EVER.
Amaxe Mar 17th 2011 10:12PM
A question I have is this:
I can't do the seahorse quest due to latency. However, if I was willing to spend time to rise to the surface, use a waterwalking potion and then fly to the next quest hub, where should I look? Vash'jir is the only zone I haven't cleared.
MaboezEU Mar 18th 2011 6:13AM
Just fyi, you are able to mount up on your usual flying mount underwater. Which means you don't need to use any water walking abilities. But using your usual mount is slooow underwater, so fly up to the surface.
(I did this when first in vash'jir as I was desparate to get my hands on some herbs without having to do quests first).
As for where the flight points are, best consulting a map online. I believe though that most are phased and depend on quests being done first. Though I could be wrong here.
