It's not that you have to do something specific to "break it up." It's just that they share lockouts.

So if you killed Magmaw on 10-man and you see a 25-man raid looking for more with Magmaw down, you can join it. When you guys kill Omnotron, and suddenly 5 people all have their goldfishes die, you can get into 2 10-man raids and both will see Magmaw and Omnotron dead already.

Basically, you can kill each boss once a week. Doesn't matter if it's in 10-man, 25-man, normal or heroic. Once it's dead...it's dead until Tuesday.
