You can't enter a raid instance if you have killed a boss that the first person who entered the instance (and therefore created the instance) hasn't. This causes some issues when you have someone who is "saved" to a boss who enters before the raid leader, often requiring the raid to disband and regroup.

If you haven't downed a boss(es) that the instance has listed as dead you will get a dialog informing you that you will be saved to the kills when you enter. Note that you will not be saved until the next boss is killed.

Heroic modes still save you to an ID.
