Breakfast Topic: The most memorable raid interruption

Way back in the days of yore, before Cataclysm, before Wrath, before even TBC, I was a hunter striving for my Beaststalker pants, and my family had just brought home a new kitten. This was a kitten we'd waited for for over a year, the first purebred Siamese cat we'd owned. She had been welcomed with love into a house full of new toys and kitty beds and expensive cat food, but this kitten had a bad attitude. She yowled. She hissed. She hid under furniture and scratched. Finally, when night fell, we had to shut her up in her special kitten room and hope that the next day proved more encouraging. Dejected, I sat down for an evening of Baron runs to soothe my cat owner's ego.
We had just finished Baroness Anastari when I heard a noise from downstairs, a long, mournful yowl. I immediately feared that the new cat had somehow come to harm. With a quick "brb cat's crying," I rushed down to see what was wrong.
Nothing. The kitten was fine. In fact, she hissed when she saw me. Figures, I thought, and turned away, but when I reached the door, she meowed pitifully again. Experimentally, I opened the door and gathered her up, and she didn't murder me. I carried the kitten upstairs and plopped her on my bed in front of my laptop, where she was immediately entranced by the night elf on the screen. As soon as I announced my return, she pounced on the keys, delighted that she could make the elf move and jump. We finished the dungeon without incident, and I will always remember that run as the night I bonded with that lovely, cantankerous kitten.
What's the most memorable raid or dungeon interruption you've experienced? Do you still talk about it to this day?

In regards to guildies in the military overseas, my personal favorite is still: "Brb, gotta go yell at my men."

So there we all are. Lined up all shiny and bright-eyed ready to pull LK for the first time. One of the other healers had been at a basketball game where he tweeked a hammy before the raid. Not 2 mins before the break was over did he decide to bust this gem out on vent.
"Guys, I'm going to have to hop in the shower really fast. I got Icy-Hot on my balls and it's really starting to burn."
*sigh*

Back in BC I remember a particular Kara run where we all decided that it was high time for a drunken guild raid. Our guild leader was DJing through vent and we were all knocking back alcohol of various types the whole evening. The raid finally got cut short when we reached Shade. We heard a bang, and then our shaman says on vent: "Uh guys, I think Pad and I are done for the night...he just fell out of his chair. I think he passed out." Hilarity, horde taunting, and naked fishing pole dueling by the summoning stone soon followed. Good times fondly remembered.

Last night, no joke:
"Um, brb. My 11 year old sister-in-law just tried to stab her parents."

We had a guy tell us he'd be right back, and when he did get right back he explained that he had to take a shower. He's swapped guilds twice since then, but we still track him down and give him grief over that.
We also had one, "be right back, have to kill a scorpion".

Embarrassed voice: "Sorry guys, my mum is forcing me to do the dishes right now"
We spent the next 20 mins laughing until he got back.
Our main tank wouldn't allow any interruptions. One night he broke his hand just before the raid, but he didn't let us can it he insisted we continue. We have suspected for many years that he may be Chuck Norris in RL.

I just got a new baby budgie (parakeet) and in the past two weeks I've sometimes had to go: "brb, budgie emergency!" on Vent and gone to rescue the little fella from under the table or behind the curtain or some other unlikely place. Our guild and raid leader used to breed budgies so he's rather understanding :D

=O I love budgies! I have 2, my guildies and podcast subscribers know them well =D
Revnah Mar 18th 2011 10:51AM
Hehe :-D Budgies rock!
I have 2 as well, they love hearing my guildies over Vent and always join the discussion when we talk about raid tactics, too cute.

We were raiding MC once when we started hearing a building fire alarm going off over vent whenever this one guy keyed in. He didn't even acknowledge it. People started asking him wtf was going on, and he's like "The apartment fire alarm is going off. I don't smell anything, I'll be fine." Eventually someone convinced him that he really should get off the computer and at least check it out.

Well it was a 5-man, but one of my guildies said "Sorry, gotta go. I have to go examine a body." Turns out she is a deputy coronor.

During Ulduar we were distributing loot from some normal mode we had on farm when I felt a couple things shake. I say in vent "God this couple underneath me is ALWAYS fighting." Then I realize the whole building is swaying and I realize it's an earthquake "BRB I think!" and I dived under my desk, then reached up and pulled the laptop down under there with me. Just a small one.

Picture this, Major Domo, four mages, Frak, two others, and me. Frak and I are doing sheep duty. Now keep in mind about Frak. His name is relavent. He had be honorably discharged from the military because his right and left hands blew off; aka he only had 2 fingers on one hand and 3 on the the other.
Ok so he's back from Afgan, on some new medication to help with the pain. We're in the middle of the Major Domo fight and I see him start running off .. turn around and just start spamming sheep. We hear over vent. "UH OH!"
We had no idea what was going on until after. The medication made him sick. He vomited all over his keyboard, bandaged hands, monitor, etc. He had to move his char so he could see his guy sheeping properly. He kept that sheep, sheeped. To quote him, marines never quit. He was sheeping while mired in puke. Now that's a trooper!

This Wednesday I had to drop from my 5man pug because the fire alarm in my building kept going off. It happens more often that it goes off for just some smoke in one of the kitchens, but this time it kept going. I was afraid that the building was really on fire this time, but it only turned out to be a water leak on one of the top floors that flooded the elevator shaft. Too bad it took almost half an hour for everything to calm down, because the group was actually doing really well :(

"Sorry guys, just had a celebrity call me up wanting a drink, good luck!" during AQ20 back in Vanilla with one of my first guilds.
I'd made arrangements to meet up with Scott Ramsoomair who draws the VG Cats comics while he was visiting the country, and he'd arrived a day early. He then proceeded to make fun of me all night for being a WoW fan. Was a good night!

ce·leb·ri·ty noun \sə-ˈle-brə-tē\
a famous or celebrated person
If someone who's vaguely popular on the internet counts, than I apparently know a lot of "celebrities." :P
Wolftech Mar 18th 2011 11:20AM
@Sleutel - Does drinking Stoli's vodka with Terry Pratchett count? Because I have cancelled a game for that. Granted, it was a pen and paper RPG at a convention, but how often does one get a chance to get blitzed with your favorite author.
chaosdefined Mar 18th 2011 11:56AM
Terry Pratchet would be awesome to chat with!
And Sleutel, you underestimate how popular a web comic can be. I would class anyone who has a few hundred fans as being fairly famous.
Although I probably should've explained how much I was building it up to my guild that I quite often had hugely famous Hollywood types calling me to hang out, when it was just one of my favourite Web Comic Artists.
But hey, everyone has their own view of who is celebrity.
