Phat Loot Phriday: Akirus the Worm-Breaker

Throgg's eyes moved slowly back to the dragonkin guarding Blackwing Descent. With a low growl rumbling deep in his chest, like thunder hidden behind the distant mountains, the orc stood.
The orc's hand gripped Akirus the Worm-Breaker so tightly that it seemed his plate gauntlets would bend and mold to the mace's shape.
"My friend and I," Throgg said in carefully measured words, "took this weapon of great strength and mastery from the corpse of Magmaw. We pried that worm's jaw open with my bare hands and his expert eye."
Throgg took one step forward, lifting the weapon to fight. "You might imagine that which I'm about to do to you."

Y'know, as much as I like this column's usual humor, it's good to know that Throgg and Lolegolas can occasionally get epic. I almost feel sorry for those dragonkin. Almost.
...I mean, all that fire probably wreaked havoc on Lolegolas's hair. Throgg is doing those dragonkin a favor by killing them before the blood elf recovers.

He can try to it from my mouth.
Necromann Mar 18th 2011 9:07PM
The comment system ate my pry.

I love the way that these pieces of loot are introduced. The neat little story between an Orc and his pet Blood Elf are much better than just talking about the basic item stats.

"An Orc and his pet Blood Elf"
I love it. I actually named my bank guild (Kupari's Pet) after my main so I could have a pet Blood Elf. I named him Mister Muggles. (Thought my actual bank alt is currently a troll.)
Blood Elves are just like cats: they make great pets as long as you spoil them rotten.

Phat Loot Phriday has some of the consistently best writing on this entire site.

Tsuki Mar 18th 2011 9:23PM
Oh, now you gone and fucked up lil' dragonkin. Prepare to face Throgg's fury!!!
Revynn Mar 18th 2011 9:25PM
All I can say is
Oh HELL YEAH!!
Imnick Mar 18th 2011 9:34PM
I wouldn't be that upset if this happened to every character with the name legolas

Clearly you don't appreciate the epicness of Lolegolas, an epicness that has been well-documented over many sessions of Phat Loot Phriday.
Pyromelter Mar 18th 2011 9:48PM
That was intense! And a great weapon too.
Adam Mar 18th 2011 9:49PM
I have two things to share on this subject:
1: Epicness abounds in this article.
2. DK tank weapon. Warriors and paladins, look elsewhere. There, I've said it. Let the grand debate commence!
Finnicks Mar 18th 2011 10:09PM
FULLY agree. My raid group already discussed this issue and we agreed that our DK tank would get first dibs on this when it drops, and our 2-hander DPS DK has agreed that he'll have to keep his Marshmallet until the second time around.
Sleutel Mar 19th 2011 12:24AM
If you run with a loot council, absolutely you'd want to gear your tanks first, because that will help your raid the most overall. But from an objective perspective, this is an excellent weapon for a TG Fury Warrior. (Don't know other classes/specs well enough to comment.) In a PUG/DKP/etc. situation, a DPS would have a perfectly valid claim.
Natsumi Mar 19th 2011 12:31AM
As an Arms Warrior I'd have to disagree with your statement about it being for a tank, it's properly itemized with DPS stats as well as having a higher max damage than any weapon previously available, therefore it is a DPS weapon. Why don't you go farm Troll sites till your fingers bleed for that Troll sword, that's better suited to tanking anyway.
Zubasa Mar 19th 2011 2:36AM
@Natsumi
The S9 weapon is about just as good as this mace, simply because the S9 weapon has Crit on it instead of expertise and mastery. For arms Crit is almost as good as mastery+expertise depending on your gear.
lethian Mar 19th 2011 9:12AM
Its only slightly more a Blood weapon than a 2h frost i say this because of the mastery as its just under haste for a 2h frost as a priority. Now an unholy DK... if i saw one with that id cry. i foresee a down rating but eh idc. Also i love Lolegolas stand tall fellow hunter, stand tall. also @ Natsumi to say hes a troll is a pretty bold statement as hes not wrong it is very much a DK tank weapon though id disagree its that much better for a tank
Natsumi Mar 19th 2011 11:07AM
@Zubasa
Actually, Mastery is BETTER than crit for Arms, as it has a chance to proc an additional attack that can ALSO crit. The expertise, while not as good as say crit, is important as well, having a MS dodged/parried when a 3 stack of Lambs is about to fall off because you've been chasing adds or had to jump on a head or run out is DEVASTATING to Arms DPS. And if it's too much Expertise it can be reforged into crit.
Resilience is USELESS to Arms outside of PvP. Not only does it do noting for our survival in PvE content, it CANNOT BE REFORGED TO SOMETHING USEFUL. On top of that, crit is NOT our best stat. You saying that the S9 weapon is better than this is like saying that Crossfire Carbine is better for hunters than Themios the Darkbringer or Dragonheart Piercer. You obviously don't understand Arms DPS at all so keep your incorrect opinions about what's good for us to yourself.

He was talking about the troll archealogy sites for the heirloom sword.
