Code Monkey is one of the classics of machinima. It was created by Spiffworld to serve as a music video for JoCo's inspired creation. It does an amazing job of capturing the heart of the song and translating it into the World of Warcraft. I mean, really, how can you not feel for the poor code monkey in this movie?
This video is about three years old, but it's still brilliant. It doesn't feel dated at all. This video proves how a good concept, some careful consideration while building the imagery, and a strong sense of fun can maintain a video through the years. Your graphics don't have to be fancy if your overall craftsmanship is strong. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! This was the first machinima I ever saw, and the one that turned me on to Coulton. I love this and it makes me cry little happy tears. Thanks for posting this again.
This was the first Machinima I was ever exposed to. In fact, the guy that got me into WoW was very uninformed and said, you can make a monkey toon and dance and stuff.
Congratulations to Spiffworld and Jonathan Coulton for the inclusion of Skullcrusher Mountain as a quest in Cataclysm. You guys deserved the Easter Egg!
My Codemonkey is a bank mule on our guild's secondary storage guild. In addition, I use him when I need to test addons and strip him of anything but the ones I'm testing / coding at the time. Of course, he's a gnome mage. :)
Also, as for other JoCo songs and Spiff vids, I specifically sought out the pants back in the day featured in the "Mr. Fancypants" video. They belong with the Eldr'naan set that you get through TBC levels, and I collected the whole thing. It's got this great chest-hair-showing 70s vibe (hrm...is that why it was at lvl 70 dungeons?), and the purple and green are just atrocious.
When I wear it, I refer to as Teh Sexay set. No woman in the guild can resist (vomiting).

"Code Monkey" is distilled awesomesauce. So much so that my hunter has a gorilla pet named... "CodeMonkey".

I still have CodeMonkey in my stable. :D I used to get whispers all the time "have you heard the code monkey song?" haha

Aren't gnomes just small, hairless monkeys?
Nospoon Mar 18th 2011 2:05PM
Actually, I think he was talking about Tauren... but he was pretty dumb, so he could have been talking about Gnomes... ;)

I can't believe I never saw this one before. How cute and well-done!

Ha the first I saw was "Big Blue Dress." Might as well start with a searing superstar classic!

It doesn't feel dated because WoW's graphics are exactly the same years later. >.
