Breakfast Topic: Care to share any recent embarrassing moments?

It was my first run through regular Grim Batol. I was in a guild group made up of the movers and shakers, including the guild leader. I was still a fairly new member of the guild and had never actually run anything with the leader in tow, so I was feeling on my guard. This was the first time in GB for several of us, so things were getting spelled out as we went. The bombing run went adequately, and so did General Umbriss. I'd managed to dodge the worst of it so far, and my DPS was holding up all right, so I was beginning to puff out my chest and not feel like a total failure.
We crept around the corner and the tank began pulling the trash leading up to Forgemaster Throngus. I peeked my head around the corner to see what was going on ... and my water elemental promptly pulled Throngus and everything else in the entryway. We all fought valiantly but suffered the inevitable wipe.
Fortunately, everyone was in good spirits about it and laughed. It's become a bit of a guild joke, and I now get told when I should stay put, but I was completely mortified and wanted to slink out the back door with my draenei tail between my legs.
What moment has made you want to log off in shame and never return?

I once dozed off during Vael. I must have hit a movement key because the next thing I knew, we had wiped and I was inundated with tells lambasting me for pulling.

I haven't been doing too bad for embarrassing moments lately. There's been a couple that were mildly embarrassing - like when I thought Repetence (Ret CC thing) worked on mobs that it didn't work on and was confused why the Paladin in my group wasn't CCing the target I asked him to. Yeah...
Recently, though, I've been having a lot of trouble with my internet connection. I've been D/Cing a lot, and I always feel really, really embarrassed when I come back on (the internet goes out for literally just long enough to make me D/C, I can log back on almost immediately). If I D/Ced for a really long time, I don't think it would be as bad because the people in your random daily probably would have kicked you within a few minutes, but the experience of logging back on to a wiped group and having to apologize? Quite embarrassing, particularly because it's entirely my fault we wiped (I queue as a healer). So, if there's anyone out there who I've grouped with, I'll apologise again for any repair bills I've cost you. Really, REALLY sorry.

Connections problems ARE embarassing. When they were releasing the pre Cata patches I was having all kinds of connections problems in really specific zones, and convieniently one of those zones was Icecrown. A random grouping of my friends were trying to go down LK and they'd always throw me an invite - thankfully they were a really understanding group of people. Granted I'm a healer so they we're always like, "It'd take forever to find someone to replace you anyway" but there were a couple of times where they waited a good 20 minutes for me to get myself situated and back to a spot where I wouldn't crash.
It actually go to a point where I just wouldn't run back, someone would have to rez me when we wiped.
I always felt so terrible holding everyone up - I actually stopped playing for a while because I didn't understand the issues I was having and Blizzard was no help. I've since found a fix for it and haven't had issues since *knock on wood*.

Ah, that's easy. Yesterday I was with some friends giving LK 10 Heroic a go, since most of us still needed our Bane of the Fallen King titles, and we were all generally goofing around. I was giving an explanation, and (because I only read about the fight instead of watching the video) I noted that when Shadow Traps came out, the person with the trap should run out in order to avoid it being dropped in a large group of people.
Anyone that has done that fight on heroic is already laughing.
I got Shadow Trap on me, and ran out of the pile of ranged. As I looked back, I realized that the trap had dropped right in the middle of them all...next thing I know I see our healer come flying at my screen ala Smash Bros. and all save one of the ranged DPS is dead (that one got thrown towards the throne). Thankfully, we had a good laugh about it, but I don't think I'm going to live that one down for a while...:P

When i was utterly convinced one of my guildies was a girl. I was calling him "her" and "She" for over a YEAR. THen one day, he told me that he was a guy and everyone in the guild knew except me. His name was Thelara, i thought it was pronounced The-Lara but it turns out its pronounced Thel-ara. Needless to say i was embarressed.
Priestess Mar 21st 2011 4:01PM
Lol, that's new. I've only seen the reverse. We had someone calling a highly-ranked officer him, dude, buddy, or guy for months before realizing that everyone else said "her" for a reason. Ouch.

I had one last night in Grim Batol Heroic, final boss. We were basically struggling to kill the two adds that come in and corrupt the eggs so we had the idea of slowing them down. I put down Grounding Totem. After about two wipes, I finally reliaed I put the wrong totem, as grounding totem redirects a spell, down and the one I needed was actually Earthbind Totem.
Felt really stupid afterwards.

"So, when everyone's ready I'll pull the add I've just marked?"
"Aaaaaaaargh!"
Yes, it appears I bound Fel Flame to the same mouse button as Ventrilo push-to-talk.

Had something similar happen to me recently. I'm BoT with my new guild, trying to make sure that I don't make myself out to be a fool in shiny purples. We're pulling trash in the room before Double Dragons and I start babbling some gibberish because I almost pull a group of adds after getting knocked back by the fire elemental and I don't want to be pegged as "That well geared DPS warrior who pulled the entire trash room in BoT" with my new guild.
I heroic leap back to the stairs before I land near the trash mob and pat myself on the back. Ten seconds later I hear on vent "What is that noise?" "I have no idea". It's at this point I realize my vent mic has been stuck open for who knows how long and I've just ended up speaking all sorts of nonsense in my guild vent because I panicked.
Could have been worse though, I could have been the tank that fell into the lava five minute earlier.

I have my PTT bound to my middle mouse. When I started healing with Clique, I decided it would be convenient to bind my Cleanse/Dispell/Decurse/etc to middle mouse also, since it needed to be handy but wasn't used often. I figured as long as I had my mic up and didn't say anything, it would be okay. This was around TBC, mind you, and since it worked just fine I just kept using it.
Flash forward to a couple of months ago, healing a run with some guildies. I had rebound Lifebloom to middle mouse, since it's so useful now, and it was annoying to constantly hear the PTT click noise so I also rebound my PTT key back to tilde (`). A guildie commented "Hey, Snuzz, aren't you healing a run?" I said yeah I was. He said "Funny, I'm used to hearing your clicking and huffing when you heal." Turns out they could hear me this whole time breathing and clicking whenever I decursed and no one said a word. For YEARS.
I'm still not quite used to tilde as a PTT key, but dammit, it's something I'm going to have to get used to!

I use the handy dandy capslock button for crutial abilities like..
Pally Bubble
Totems
Iceblock
Deterrance...
Most of them are on "on/off" macros so I'll press the button twice to clear IB or something. BUT AFTER I USE ONE OF THEM I'M SOMETIMES SHOUTING IN CHAT.
--;;; and everyone knows and makes fun of me...
and then I'll turn it off and IB myself again and they'll make even more fun.

I bound my imp's pet attack to R. It's very convenient and is great for when I need him to switch targets.
HOWEVER, an HM Chimaeron wipe occurred when replying to a whispers and I made a typo that involved leaving out the / in /r while also targeting the boss. I saw the pet cast bar and panicked. I interrupted the RL to shout that everyone run out because the pet pulled... completely forgetting that he is also unresetable. Some people ran for the door which prolonged the already unnecessary wipe. It's a very embarrassing story because it ALWAYS comes up when talking about Chim wipes. Pulls like that happened to everyone at some point, except it's melee mistakenly right-clicking... not some caster 30 yards away.
I have since made a habit of keeping my DI target targeted until we pull.

I'm so absent minded and spacy that my life can tend to be a embarrassing moment.

Grim Batol Heroic, and I'm still getting my tanking (DK) back up to par after a break. 1030pm, and I'm tired. We had wiped, so I went into Unholy presence to run back quicker. We wipe again, and I notice that I had a hard time with aggro... OOPS I forgot to go back to Blood Presence!! Luckily was a guild run, so we just laughed and tried again.
Earlier hilarity when rogue tried to sap a mob, but forgot to stealth :)
Metalupis Mar 21st 2011 9:28AM
Yeah, done that on my rogue, was sent into the first chamber of icc to disarm traps and forgot to stealth
Peli Mar 21st 2011 9:31AM
I did that in BWD. I was one of the OT's, so I had switched over to my DPS spec for some trash, then we got to the Dwarves before Atramedes and I was once again assigned a tanking role. No problem, just change specs and hop in my tanking gear... I tanked one of the dwarves in the first pack, no problem. Then the second pack I was on double duty and I couldn't figure out why I had to blow all my CD's to stay alive on the trash... Then I noticed that I forgot to pop into Blood Presence... >.

I taunted too early on Argoloth (name?) in BH the other day, and my group got 3 stacks of the debuff. I felt so very dumb. It's not like it's the easiest fight in the game or anything...

I must have been tired, or maybe just not paying attention, but when asked to open a portal to Dalaran, I accidentally teleported myself leaving an entire raid scratching their heads in Obsidium Sanctum wondering where the mage went.
Prelimar Mar 21st 2011 9:39AM
i've done this. i think it's because i'm so used to porting *myself* around, i just automatically used my key for teleport, instead of going to portals. : \
