We don't know the official name of the mount (although datamining points to its being called a Winged Lion, which would make sense), the price, or any other details.

Clearly your overwhelming proof of masses of people quitting and never returning supports your theory of them releasing an optional mount is undeniable and will never been poke through like a wet paper bag.

I didn't say they're not coming back. Downvote me all you like, but there is a solid lack of things to do at the moment. I'm whole heartedly looking forward to 4.1 to reinstate a bit more interest in the game.
And I'm talking about people not playing from experience, not figures. Filling up a 25 man raid for me at this current moment in time is just as challenging as some of the content itself.

It bothers me a bit that I would totally pay for star-lion baby non-combat pets.
But only if they appeared around you in a litter of, like, five or six. And made adorable mewling noises. And landed on your shoulders when you stood still for too long. And snapped adorably at whatever you were fighting. And begged NPCs for treats. And...

That said, I prefer the sparklepony to this. This doesn't intrigue me at all.

I have to agree here. I don't RP or anything, but there's something that feels "right" about having my paladin or priest or possibly a shaman on my sparkle pony. It feels completely wrong on other characters though, like my undead rogue. I hit 60 and bought my flight skill last week and used my pony for about an hour before I stopped and bought a wyvern instead.

Besides, you could confuse them since there were two Voltrons and only one of them was comprised by lions.
