As for tanks taking dps gear, I can't see it being that much of an issue. All healers except holy paladins have to share their spirit gear with another dps class. And there's already a bit of overlap in str dps gear and str tanking gear. Hell, for bear druids there is no "tank only" leather, it's all the same stuff as rogue and kitties (my main is a rogue, and I'm not complaining).
Holy paladins are quite an awkward situation I agree, but I really can't see Blizzard going quite so far as to getting rid of caster plate and having them heal in tank or dps plate. There are limits. I think a far better and more likely solution would be to introduce a plate healing/caster dps hero class of some sort in order to share the gear.
