Ladies,
The advice from both of you is pretty sound. VT probably could have handled things a bit differently, but it was a difficult, unfortunate, and unfortunately common situation to be stuck in.
Lisa, I have to say that I'm a bit taken aback by the snarkiness of your response to VT. While VT probably could have handled the situation differently, you wrote:
"Frankly, I don't blame the officer for blowing his stack and going off on you. It was a childish tantrum, true, and I don't condone his particular flavor of reaction ... But wow, you really set up this situation to fail. I don't think the guild officer is That Guy at all -- I think That Guy is you." [Some formatting removed due to the "lolcommentsystem."]
So, basically, the RL's response was childish and immature, but by golly, VT, it's your fault that he reacted this way? Honestly, this response seems somewhat uncharacteristically combative, both in the above quote and in other places, such as implying that VT was expecting unusual coddling ("handholding") by asking for strats to be given via regular chat to avoid the Vent issues. What gives?
Other than the somewhat unusual amount of snark, this was another interesting article with some sound advice. Thanks for another thought-provoking column.
