Breakfast Topic: What do you listen to while you play WoW?
Your listening music for today's Breakfast Topic shall be A Whole New World from Disney's Aladdin. Rake in the nostalgia.
I grew up eagerly anticipating the latest Disney animated film. The first movie I can recall seeing in theaters was Hunchback of Notre Dame. The music has always stuck with me, and to this day, I have an extensive Disney music collection -- from the Oscar winners (Beauty and the Beast, A Whole New World) to the lesser known but still powerful (Hellfire/Heaven's Light), I've got most every song to come out of that studio. And when I play WoW, that playlist is on an infinite loop.
The in-game music has matured with the game, and the tracks introduced with Cataclysm are incredibly powerful and impacting. When the Shattering login music leaked, universal praise was given to the track, with many people -- myself included -- looping the 12-minute masterpiece for a good while.
And yet, despite the excellent default tracks, many people -- again, myself included -- choose to mute the sound of the music and replace it with a soundtrack of their own choosing. You can tell a lot about the way people game based on the music they listen to. Immersion gamers tend to listen to the default sounds, while more competitive types may replace it for a more high-energy sound.
What music graces your ears as you play, and what does it say about you?

WoW music.

On loop even.

Seconded. I've always played with it on, and the music in WoW is now so embedded into my experience of the game, it doesn't feel right if it's not playing. A while back, most of my UI stuff got reset thanks to some glitch, and I noticed right away that the music wasn't looping anymore. Entering Stormwind without that classic music? Just doesn't seem right. I got the Cataclysm soundtrack with the collector's edition, and I often put it on when I'm working on other stuff.
Also: the music was composed by a guy named David Arkenstone. There's no way it couldn't have been epic when the composer's last name is that epic. ^_^

I personally like to immerse myself into the world when playing and the wow music is perfect for that. I have tried over the past 5 1/2 years to listen to regular music but find I cannot as I end up getting caught up/distracted to what I'm listening to and get very little done in-game. Sometimes I switch it to loop when at other times I enjoy the incidental moments in the way the Ms Crofts first adventure on the PS1 (or just PS at the time, I guess) wooed us in a similar way. The only except to the rule of me not having music on is in raids (music reduced to 11% because it STILL has to be there for me) when I'm in my office *ahem* working *ahem* or farming while watching TV.

Same here. WoW music is simply amazing and never gets old.
Unless I'm in farm mode in which case I fire up EpicMusicPlayer and listen my own playlist, mostly composed of Metal and Industrial.

Back in BC, I was finishing up a Karazhan run when a friend came over. He actually said "Wow, Kara is way more epic with the music on" when he heard my computer.

Wow, nobody has chimed in with "OMGDUBSTEP!" yet? Or was that "so 6 months ago?"

I've never gotten metal. It's far too loud and noisy for me.

Love me some Dragonforce, but usually it's In Flames or Blind Guardian for when i really wanna push my aggro

Noid Mar 27th 2011 8:18AM
All you metal heads need to check out Protest The Hero. Easily one of the best metal bands out there now.
gutserker Mar 28th 2011 4:19AM
lots of metal. I prefer newer stuff, and it sucks when I have to turn my music down because Im on teamspeak, which happens to be when we raid. i use music to give me a rush, downing an energy drink, and im a ball of keysmash.
Umbrascia Mar 30th 2011 10:49AM
YES METAL!
Cannibal Corpse~ Dead Human Collection, Shatter Their Bones, They Deserve to Die...especially great for PVP!
Gwar - Let Us Slay is one of my faves.
**ALSO**
Any metalhead who hasn't seen it yet...search Corpsegrinder + Wow on YouTube. HILARIOUS. I'm so glad they gave him his own in-game NPC.
