Breakfast Topic: What do you listen to while you play WoW?
Your listening music for today's Breakfast Topic shall be A Whole New World from Disney's Aladdin. Rake in the nostalgia.
I grew up eagerly anticipating the latest Disney animated film. The first movie I can recall seeing in theaters was Hunchback of Notre Dame. The music has always stuck with me, and to this day, I have an extensive Disney music collection -- from the Oscar winners (Beauty and the Beast, A Whole New World) to the lesser known but still powerful (Hellfire/Heaven's Light), I've got most every song to come out of that studio. And when I play WoW, that playlist is on an infinite loop.
The in-game music has matured with the game, and the tracks introduced with Cataclysm are incredibly powerful and impacting. When the Shattering login music leaked, universal praise was given to the track, with many people -- myself included -- looping the 12-minute masterpiece for a good while.
And yet, despite the excellent default tracks, many people -- again, myself included -- choose to mute the sound of the music and replace it with a soundtrack of their own choosing. You can tell a lot about the way people game based on the music they listen to. Immersion gamers tend to listen to the default sounds, while more competitive types may replace it for a more high-energy sound.
What music graces your ears as you play, and what does it say about you?

Good ole Bing Crosby. There's something soothing about pvping while he's singing 'When Irish Eyes Are Smiling'. :P

Despite the fact (as explained above) I have to have the in-game music playing... you just made my morning and I will have to try this in arena later. Perhaps song choice for Nagrand Arena could be 'Straight Down the Middle' haha. Now I'm going to have to think of other suitable amusing choices over breakfast.
Thank you!
Biggest. Bing. Fan. Ever. :P

most of the time i listen to some sort of punk rock while playing, sometimes drum and base.
but what's strange i guess is, back in the icc days, i did not down the lich king once without listening to mozarts requiem xD

Out of curiosity, what Punk bands do you listen to?
bjoker1 Mar 27th 2011 10:07PM
Rock the Casbah by The Clash comes to mind when I listen to punk
Swifteye Mar 26th 2011 8:10AM
I listen to the same "wuss-rock" I listen to any other time... think balladeers like Richard Marx, Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart, Josh Groban, Phil Collins...
What does it say about me? I suppose that I don't need bouncy tunes to be able to kick people's faces in, that I have a narrow taste in music, and that I like to stay mellow and calm no matter what.
... well, that, and I like wimpy emo guys who wear their hearts on their sleeves. *sheepish grin*
MusedMoose Mar 26th 2011 9:01AM
That's pretty awesome. Pity you can't trash-talk the other guys after PvP - it'd be hilarious to tell them they just got their asses kicked to the sound of Phil Collins. ^_^

Heh, I agree...
"Take a look at me now... well there's just an empty space..."
"... oh, that's where your entrails were a moment ago. Sucks to be you."

Phil Collins is one of my favorites. Phenomenal drummer. Used to have a very cool radio station 104.3 Jack FM (no DJ's just music) mostly 80's with some 70's 90's and a wee bit of current hits sprinkled on top. A nice mix. They played a lot of Def Leppard (my all time favorite band) Styx AC/DC Journey etc. Until they switched formats. So now I am back to First Wave on Sirius/xm which is a very cool station if you are into 80s alt. Despite said choices I love new music too. I still play with the sound on and WoW music rolling. I guess that could be complicated. I like to hear in game sounds and most of the music is pretty well done.

michael buble for me.

Hah, we have almost identical tastes in music, although I'm an Elton John buff, and love Billy Joel -- so add live Elton & Billy to that list.
As I type this, I'm listening to Elton sing "Roy Rogers".
Turn on the T.V.
Shut out the lights
Roy Rogers is riding tonight...

Jazz, typically. I usually just search for an internet radio station over on Shoutcast and play it in my Winamp player, and then open up WoW. The only time I find I'm not listening to jazz is when I'm raiding or doing arena.

if im in a dungeon and its a fast run its gotta be ac/dc or whitesnake. nothing bettter then going through a dungeon killing mobs and bosses to a face melting guitar riff.
Ebrion Mar 26th 2011 8:15AM
Bring on any dungeon as long as i have 3 Inches of Blood, the Sword, Hatebreed or Rob Zombie in the background. For Raid, I prefer the video game remixes from OC Remix.
Succulent Mar 26th 2011 8:47AM
OC Remix is my music of choice currently :)
It's like an ever expanding library, great website.

I don't listen to music while playing (or just about any other time, really). If I'm listening to something while I play, it's either the TV, podcasts -- some WoW, some Doctor Who, some other stuff -- or streaming BBC Radio 4 shows.
Tabasa Mar 26th 2011 9:10AM
Same here.
On my first playthrough of things, I don't have anything additional in the background so I can pay attention to the storyline, but after that, it's either podcasts or radio dramas.
One of my earliest WoW memories is playing through Redridge while listening to BBC Sherlock Holmes radio dramas.
Rhev Mar 26th 2011 8:22AM
My Sirius/XM radio. Usually Opie & Anthony, but sometimes I listen to the Lithium channel because Alternative rock of the 90s is the best music ever imo. :)
Raven Mar 26th 2011 8:25AM
Great topic!
My taste varies a lot. for speed runs I listen to RHPS. When I explore I like classic rock and classical redone in rock. also the kinky boots soundtrack aaaand some flight of the conchords... hope I haven't damaged any brains :)

My wife, saying "stop playing that damn game!"
(Just kidding, my SO plays with me... =D)
