If you've ever had the hankering to cross-stitch the crew of Serenity, well, now you can.
Erik Inow asked:
I have a buddy who has a sort of raid group that I would like to join. Thing is they are on a different server and they are horde. Would I be able to get my human pally to switch servers and faction in one swap or is it that I have to switch server then do a faction change. I ask because that can be a lot of money and I need to know to save up!
They're separate processes, and there's no discount for doing them together. You'd need to server transfer, then faction change, for a total of $55 USD. Note that you get a free name change and re-customization for changing your faction.
Chris asked:
I recently just finished questing through WPL and there was one scence that really made me think of a possibilty for future content. It was the scene where Sylvanas tells Kolthira that she is sending him beneath Undercity, to which he yells a No to. However I wondered if there are any clues to what may be under there, or better yet if you think we will ever get to see it for ourselves.
There are a ton of plot hooks in Cataclysm, but we really have no inkling as to whether any particular one will be fully explored. There are indications that there's an advancement in the worgen vs. Forsaken storyline, so it's possible that Koltira's fate will be explored as well. And besides, there's still a whole lot of Cataclysm left.
Shrikesnest asked:
So I'm gearing my warrior up, slowly but steadily. The only real problem is the ranged slot (of course). The best non-raid ranged weapon with strength on it seems to be an ilvl 318 green quest drop. Do I take a higher ilvl weapon with agility on it? I've heard Cataclysm is all about the primary stats now and less about the secondary ones, so it seems like gaining a little crit and/or haste wouldn't make up for the strength loss, plus I can't in good conscience roll against a hunter on a good ranged weapon with agility on it.
It is indeed best to go for a weapon with strength on it, even at a lower item level, compared to one with agility on it. There's a severe dearth of strength guns available in Cataclysm -- Thundercall and Crossfire Carbine are pretty much the only ones -- but it looks like we'll be getting more in Zul'Aman and Zul'Gurub, so if you don't mind waiting a bit, you can always grab one there.
Rylka asked:
Why is it that ALL eye patches in the game are Leather? That means that all the cloth classes are forever bared from dressing up with cool eye patches. :(
Because leather is the objectively best armor class and clothies are rightfully restricted from wearing the Cool Kid Clothes? None of us bestarmortypers have to iron our armor. You don't deserve an eyepatch if you do.

Shaman totems
1 - In the manga 'Shaman' we see Muln Earthfury fingering tiny discs on a rope around his neck. Are these the shaman totems we used to get throught 'Call of ____' quests?
2 - When a Shaman casts a totem spell, does the totem grow out of the totem-disc?
3 - How do Shaman get their totems in lore? Through quests like we used to?
4 - Why didn't we see any totem stuff during Thrall's training in 'Lord of the Clans'.

I always figured the in-game representation of the totems in-game were for game mechanics, and that in lore, the totems are like little medallions around their neck.
Drakkenfyre Mar 27th 2011 12:55PM
The Totems you get are actual Totems. The comic book sometimes makes up it's own stuff, and while approved and official, don't let it override the game itself.
When you cast a Totem, you are actually planting it. That's the reason for the casting animation.
The game never really tells us whether each Totem for each spell is individual, or just something that's channeled thru your other Totems. I would assume that. You toss down a Totem of Fire, and you can use any Fire spell thru it. Recall Totem does indeed say it returns it to the Earth. Maybe they can be summoned at will, once you have them.

In The Shattering, Magatha Grimtotem's totems are little mini ones she keeps in a pouch. She would grab one and channel a life sized totem in front of her according to the book.

I gotta be honest: I used to think that shamans seriously just carried around a ton of enormous totems made of wood and stone and plonked them down on the ground so hard that they'd bury themselves enough to stand up on their own. The idea of lugging around 12+ enormous tree-trunk sized totems seemed humorous to me, but I guess WoW characters can carry around seven or eight full suits of armor, so...
Twill Mar 27th 2011 11:57PM
I carry around 103 mounts. You have no idea where I squish dragons in my pants. No idea.

Has anyone else ever tried to play Seven Degrees of Jesse Cox? I CAN'T be the only one who sees him as the Kevin Bacon of the machinima world.
Reklisc Mar 27th 2011 3:15PM
That's only because Jesse Cox just rules, he's mega-sexy and doesn't mind looking like a dork (i.e. the entire OMFGcata channel).
On a barely-connected topic, I can't wait to see a WoW Boom-de-yada 2.

In response to the Warrior/Ranged Weapon conundrum:
For once, it really is all Hunter loot.

The funny part is that it really isn't that bad to have Agility instead of Strength for tanks as long as the other two stats aren't trash. Agility offers more dodge than Str offers Parry.
The sad part, mastery + crit is the best you get. If mastery and hit were on a ranged weapon, it would be decent for tanking even if it had agility.
For DPs warriors, sorry buddies.
Nopunin10did Mar 27th 2011 1:51PM
@Angus
I think they actually did away with the Agility -> Dodge conversion for plate-wearing tanks. I know they got rid of the Agility->Armor conversion.
Ghal Mar 27th 2011 2:30PM
@Nopunin10did You are correct about agility no longer giving armor, it does however still give dodge.
Also, there is now a strength gun available from the last boss of Vortex Pinnacle as of 4.0.6! It is Thundercall, and has Parry and Mastery as secondary stats. Just reforge that parry to crit, and it's pretty decent :)
There will also be an epic 353 gun from either ZA or ZG. It's been confirmed and datamined.
bldavis59 Mar 27th 2011 2:42PM
@Nopun
the agil - dodge is still there, they just got rid of the agil - armor
if you have a warrior with an agil ranged weapon, go into your tanking gear and un-equip
look at your dodge %
now re-equip and check dodge
my bet is you will see it go up, thus agil -> dodge
plus if they took out agil->dodge, bears would be screwed
granted we are the least played of the tanking classes but still....that is no excuse to remove a core mechanic

The irony of this whole situation is that the new str/stam weapon will drop in a instance that has a kinda high gear score requirement to get into. But having that 318 item will seriously hinder your gear score, possibly preventing you from getting into it.
It's almost like you need the weapon, to have the gear score to go into the instance and and get the weapon. A catch 22. :-(
While I like the story arcs and the visual look of Cata very much, some of the logic behind the instance and raids have me shaking my head. Couldn't they just put an item in heroism/valor vendor? Or just make a lvl 85 normal version of these two new instances?
squig_masta Mar 27th 2011 5:46PM
I think that's why the lfg goes off items in your inventory rather then items equipped. If your ranged weapon is preventing you from entering the new instances, then you just need to get A ranged item, any ranged item, and you're good to go. my hunter looted the plate helm off Rahj and I was good to enter heroics.
Transit Mar 27th 2011 6:23PM
@ squig_masta
Yeah, but stuff like that makes me uneasy. It really feels like you are cheating the system.
I think the REAL reason why it counts the items in your bag was that people in wotlk were getting naked hopeing they would not get Halls of Reflection as the random heroic.
Now it seems like I can level a rogue say to 85 and have all 289 green gear on them, but after buying some cloth, plate and mail items in the AH I can do heroics because they are in my bags. Extreme example, but I am just illustrating my point.
It would be nicer if they just made a gun listed with the vendors and/or make the item have a high drop rate in VP (Which it does not.)

Why does everyone forget the engineering weapons (Kickback 5000 for the agi weapon)?
Ok, the mats are horrible and therefore the price is going to be in the high 3-4ks at least, but if you are really tooling around with 318 greens, a few thousand K gold shouldn't be that much of an issue. Additionally, it's the only thing an engi can spend orbs on, so you should be able to get one crafted right cheaply if you get hold of the mats and spam trade for an engineer.
Of course, most engis (like myself) have given up on crafting that blue for the AH market.
divinite Mar 28th 2011 11:25AM
There was a 346 str gun added to one of the bosses in 4.0.6. It drops from someone in h- vp. Don't recall who though
