Breakfast Topic: Where's MY profession mount?

I am a leatherworker on my main, and I love my crafting. As my main is a hunter, I love to craft my own mail, emboss my bracers, and get awesome leg armor whenever I want it. But I feel like something is missing, something near and dear to my heart. I want my own crafting mount! Tailors get flying carpets. Engineers get a helicopter. Alchemists now get a dragon. Why is my poor leatherworker so unloved? Does she not slave away to make the nice armor for rogues, shaman, druids, and hunters? Should she not also get to flaunt her cool ride?
With that in mind, I decided to create fantasy rides for those poor unloved crafters without a ride of their own.
Leatherworkers
- Standard land mount Patchwork horse to ride through the world.
- Standard flying mount Hang glider made out of leather. Jump on and enjoy the view!
- Epic flying mount Ultra-light made from skin -- you know you want one.
- Standard land mount Rollerblades of speed -- zoom through The Barrens on your cool wheels.
- Standard flying mount Mjolnir's Hammer: Strap this baby on your wrist and away you soar.
- Epic flying mount Dual hammers, for that double pace through the sky.
- Standard land mount Crystal ball -- think hamster wheel/ball, all shiny and glittery.
- Standard flying mount Winged shoes; you follow in Hermes' path.
- Epic flying mount The matching helmet to your shoes; increases your speed.
- Standard land mount Seven League Boots -- walk like the giants.
- Standard flying mount Wings of fire; enchant your shirt to let you fly with fiery wings.
- Epic flying mount Wings of air; enchant your shirt to let you fly with hurricane wind.

I would love some of those mounts. But on a small note.. alchemist can make it.. but anyone can use it.. therefore, the sands of time doesn't truly count as an Alchemy mount. (and I still haven't got the recipe rassafassa arch'ology)

Indeed. I was glad to finally have an alchemist-only mount until Blizzard gave into the non-alchy QQ. So yeah... It's not so much an alchemy mount but a mount for everyone that requires an alchemist to make.

I still think that we Alchemists should get a flying mortar and pestle--a la Baba Yaga.

until they remove the recipe from the archaeology profession I won't consider it an alchemy mount
Chetti Mar 28th 2011 12:57PM
I agree, I was sooo happy to hear that alchemy was getting a mount. Until I read the rest, that archeology was required - as well as RNG being extremely nice. I am leveling archeology so that I can make one (and the fossil raptor mount along the way wouldn't hurt!).
Now it doesn't bother me so much that archeology grants a recipe to alchemists where the item can be used by everyone, the part that bothers me is that the item is the first alchemy mount. It wouldn't be so terrible if alchemists had gotten a trainable (or attainable) recipe for a mount that was alchemy only, like the flying carpets and engineering only mounts. Then, at some point during archeology expansion (as stuff gets added, the way new items are being added next patch) recipes get added that alchemists/tailors/engineers could make that others could use (mounts/pets/tinker things/whatever).
I also think it would be cool for other professions to be able to make mounts, I'm actually surprised there hasn't been a leather-made hang glider. :)

Exactly.
People kept talking about the cycle/hog as engineering mount; but like the VotS mount BOEs are not profession mounts.

A hand glider made from skin?
I'd have to remane my hunter to BuffaloBill immediately.
Spacehyena Mar 28th 2011 3:39PM
It puts the lotion on its skin or else it gets -DKP again.
blindlinus Mar 28th 2011 8:08AM
what about scripting?
Amanda A. Mar 28th 2011 8:12AM
Giant paper airplane.
Kolumbus Mar 28th 2011 8:28AM
Damn you, Amanda! I thought I made that joke first and then I scrolled down! ;)
Marcosius Mar 28th 2011 12:11PM
It's SCRIBING. GRR.
Zayd Mar 28th 2011 8:09AM
'remane'? Uurgh, damn you dyslexia, you win this round!

I like most of these ideas, though I think some wouldn't quite fit. The rollerblades are a bit much - we already have rocket-powered boots via Engineering (or just by virtue of being a goblin), so there's that, and the Blacksmithing flying mount you've proposed would probably have to be called "Thorim's Hammer" to fit with in-game lore. Names that aren't directly from Greek mythology would be needed for the enchanting mounts too.
All in all, though, good ideas; I think we'd see a ton of new jewelcrafters if they got to make a crystal ball mount like that, and I'd level a paladin to at least 60 if it meant flying around using a hammer. ^_^ And the leatherworking flying mount is a very cool idea, especially since hang gliders are rather quiet (as far as I know) and many leatherworkers are rogues.
Personally, I'd like to see more class-specific mounts, like paladins, death knights, and warlocks already have. Mages could have some sort of glowy arcane conveyance, hunters could be able to use certain types of pets as mounts, rogues could have some sort of shadowy creature, and so on.

This, I would LOVE for my rogue to be riding some stealthy beast (think a Nightsaber) and my mage to mount upon an arcane beast summoned from Light-knows-where to be used as a method of travel.
