Two Bosses Enter: Lord Godfrey vs. Scourgelord Tyrannus!

Welcome to week two of this season of Two Bosses Enter! This week we reveal the first of four wild card competitors -- when it comes to the wild cards, anything goes. We broke the Cataclysm boss mold to bring back old favorites ... or something else entirely!
Lord Godfrey will be put up against wild card numero uno, Scourgelord Tyrannus, winner of Wrath of the Lich King's Trial of the Crusader/Frozen Halls season of Two Bosses Enter. Can Tyrannus capitalize on this comeback? Can he go toe-to-toe with the bosses of Cataclysm? Does he still have what it takes to compete?

| Scourgelord Tyrannus |
Follow along for the details of this matchup, as well as discussion on our landslide winner from last week's matchup.
The rules of the ring
- The WoW Insider Ring is considered neutral territory, where both combatants are able to access their usual encounter mechanics and abilities. If you can't visualize it inside the squared circle, visualize it someplace else -- but you must take into consideration all of each bosses' abilities and mechanics.
- Assume that each opponent is intelligent and capable of strategic thinking.
- All of the competitors' abilities, including crowd control and other effects to which bosses are usually immune, work on their opponents (with apologies to considerations of lore on this point).
- Assume that the opponents share similar levels, health pools, and comparative overall damage output.
- Don't get caught up in gameplay mechanics and what actual players might do in each encounter.
- Don't neglect style, story, and scale. Everything is a factor; seeking balance is your goal as a spectator and judge.

Murder never gets old.
How many men can claim they've killed the Banshee Queen? Not Sylvanas the mortal ranger, but the Banshee Queen, the undead monarch of the Forsaken, one of the most powerful beings across both the Alliance and the Horde? Just one man managed to do what the Lich King could not: Lord Vincent Godfrey. With Sylvanas sitting at the top of his kill list, can Scourgelord Tyrannus truly prove to be a threat? Besides, he dual wields pistols. How cool is that?
Godfrey's bag of murderous tricks includes ... If you've never been unfortunate enough to cross Lord Godfrey, you may want to learn about his background or read adventurers' first-hand accounts of his murderocity. It's a word. Look it up.
I lied. It's not a word.

You are better off dead!
Scourgelord Tyrannus's death in the Pit of Saron was merely a setback. His sweep of the previous season of Two Bosses Enter proves that he was one tough cookie with some serious staying power. Keep in mind that both the Faction Champions and the Lich King himself participated in that tournament -- it was not easy competition. Can Tyrannus and his pet dragon defeat that which Sylvanas could not?
Scourgelord Tyrannus is packing some serious heat ... And that's not all! His pet frost wyrm Rimefang is a stone cold killer, too ... If you were the cowardly sort in Wrath of the Lich King and stayed in the mountains, far away from Tyrannus, you might want to learn more about him and his style of combat.

Ozruk beat Asaad so brutally last week that the djinn's entire family line has been shamed for all time, hither and thither throughout the continuum. Ozruk took just about 80% of the vote, which is likely as close to a flawless victory as we'll see throughout this tournament.
| Ozruk | |
|---|---|
| Asaad |
Our first comment last week summed up the matchup quite well for most of our readers. Natsumi said ...
Obviously Ozruk wins, everyone knows that Ground Types are Immune to Electric types. However, Hal saw things quite differently ...
Ugh, you people and your pokeymans. Dag-gum kids.No matter which way you look at it, Ozruk comes out on top. Readers are already predicting a clean sweep for Ozruk in this season of Two Bosses Enter, but it may be too early to make that call. Could Tyrannus weather Ozruk's body should he advance to the next round? Could Godfrey?
In a more traditional elemental arrangement: Water > Fire > Earth > Wind > Water
Earth vs. Wind ... Earth wins.
The battle begins!
Remember, Two Bosses Enter matchups are all about substance and style, not gameplay, mechanics, and numbers. Don't base your strategies on player tactics, which opponent has been easiest or most difficult for you personally, or the difficulty of each opponent relative to instance progression. Vote for the spirit of the battle as set forth above. Set aside differences in opponents' health pools, game level, and actual damage output. Absolutely no game mechanics nitpicking!
Oh, and by the way? Bonus points to anybody who fills out their season predictions in our ladder.

Plate will not necessarily stop a bullet.

Amusingly enough, gunpowder weaponry marked the end of the plate armor age, and while it made the occasional resurgence, it was not nearly as effective as it once was. Even an English longbow can pierce plate in the hands of a trained user. Plate is a ridged armor, not pliable like Kevlar, and even a deflection would likely lead to indents in the armor (and whatever was inside the armor.)
In theory, Tyrannus' plate armor would have a chance at deflecting the occasional bullet, but if we're going to get that realistic, then Tyrannus would also be comparatively slow, walking around with a heavy weight in metal strapped to his body (note that his armor is much thicker then actual plate armor in the shoulders and helmet, which might make him look many but won't prevent a gut shot from turning his insides to sludge), and lugging around a weapon that big.

Tyrannus if not only because they linked the non-heroic version of Pistol Barrage. 150 dps as the ace in your pocket kinda sucks XD
But in all seriousness Tyrannus. Godfrey is too straightforward, though I don't know if it's *completely* fair comparing a leveling-instance boss to a (previously) endgame-boss. Godfrey necessarily has to be less complex because players didn't have a full toolbox to deal with him in the original level range. If Blizz had created a completely different fight at 85, Godfrey might have had a chance. But they didn't.

To clarify, yes I know this competition isn't based on relative positioning in terms of progression. At the same time, the real kicker for me was that Tyrannus has a lot more variability in what he does - he'll use his opponents against each other, he'll get his dragon to snipe at people, he'll shift his focus entirely to beatdown mode. By contrast, Godfrey just tries to shoot you a couple different ways. Since similar health pools and damage output are stipulations, Tyrannus's superior tactics give him an easy victory.
Honestly, Tyrannus himself just has to slap an Overlord's brand on Godfrey. Then he can just stand there and let Rimefang shoot for whatever amount of damage Godfrey doesn't end up doing to himself.

If we forget the fact that Godfrey stays still while channeling, he could just strafe around firing a barrage of bullets at Tyrranus.
Plus the ghouls keeping him busy, and the Cursed bullets to chew on his health.
I am sure Godfrey is also capable of a BOOM HEADSHOT!
Mortymer Mar 28th 2011 9:53AM
Tyrannus has a dragon, therefore he wins.

A tremendous roar pierced the skies above Shadowfang Keep. "What now?!" Godfrey proclaimed, leaving the lab and walking out onto the walkway, a clear look of irritation on his undead face. At first he saw nothing, shortly before hes potted something round and blue dropping towards him at an alarming rate. Thinking rashly, Godfrey ran and jumped off the walkway, rolling in the courtyard as the walkway is covered with frost.
"It would appear I have guests," Godfrey sighed, gazing up in the direction of Rimefang, the mighty frostwyrm. A figure leapt to the ground behind him. He turned and spotted Tyrannus, clad in heavy saronite armour and weilding his blade.
"This is who the icy winds of Northrend speak highly of? YOU were the one to eliminate the Banshee Queen, where thousands failed?" Tyrannus roared.
"I hope you're not disappointed," Godfrey cackled, reaching for his pistols.
"I cannot promise you a clean death," Tyrannus said, advancing towards Godfrey.
"Nobody ever does."
Godfrey began channeling a spell, as ghouls began appearing from the tainted ground. Tyrannus swung for Godfrey, cleaving at the ghouls who made their way between the two, as Godfrey moved back across the courtyard and created some space.
"Foolish Forsaken scum! Rimefang, GET HIM!"
Rimefang let out a cry of loyalty, before blasting the courtyard with his Icy Blasts. As Tyrannus finished off the last of the ghouls, he advanced on Godfrey. The former Gilnean lord raised his pistols but Tyrannus countered with his Overlord's Brand, marking Godfrey from afar.
"There's nowhere to run. In the name of the Lich King you WILL DIE!" Tyrannus roared, swelling with dark might.
"Somebody didn't recieve the memo..." Godfrey snickered, moving around the edge of the courtyard. Due to the dark empowerment he was faster, but could not yet attack Tyrannus, but...
He pointed his pistols up in the air at Rimefang, who continued to try and catch him with hoarfrost. Godfrey fired cursed bullets at the frostwyrm, before opening up with a pistol barrage. Rimefang roared in pain as the brand faded.
"How dare you!" Tyrannus exclaimed, reaching Godfrey and striking him with a Forceful Smash. Godfrey went flying backwards onto the stairs of the courtyard, horribly injured.
"Is that all you're good for?" Godfrey taunted, summoning more ghouls and firing a pistol barrage at Tyrannus, who had the disadvantage of distance after knocking Godfrey back.
"Rimefang! On me!" the Scourgelord ordered, as Rimefang blasted his frost breath towards the ghouls, Tyrannus immune to the attack from his own companion. Through the ice and the haze obscuring his vision of Godfrey, he could hear the former Gilnean lord casting something. Charging through the frost, he was struck in the chest with cursed bullets, which sapped at his health and began to do serious damage. The pistol barrage came next, with Tyrannus being too slow to outmaneuver it. He grabbed Godfrey by the throat, before smashing him again, sending him flying across the courtyard. Godfrey was on his last legs, for certain.
"Not bad for a...failure..." Godfrey coughed, more out of habit than necessity as a Forsaken. Rimefang landed on the rooftop opposite, awaiting his master's orders.
"I was going to let Rimefang finish you off, but you've been a pain. A foolish pain. You could have accomplished so much."
Tyrannus swelled with dark might once more, advancing on Godfrey. Godfrey began to cackle menacingly.
"I cast two spells through the frost" he admitted, letting out a sinister grin. Tyrannus peered at him before there was a horrid shriek from the rooftop. Rimefang took off, ghouls clinging onto his body, having ran around while Tyrannus was distracted by the earlier haze.
"Wha-"
Godfrey sprung into action as Rimefang fired off a desperate icy blast, running around Tyrannus, who cast the Overlord's Brand on him once more, swinging with his blade and narrowly missing. The Forsaken pointed his pistols at the weakened frostwyrm, before firing off more cursed bullets and another pistol barrage. There was a moment of agonizing shrieking before the mighty frostwyrm fell to the ground, defeated. Tyrannus, outraged and having earnt an achievement for this, charged for Godfrey. Godfrey continued his assault, except directed at the Scourgelord as the Brand faded.
"NOBODY kills my frostwyrm and gets away with it. NOBODY!" Tyrannus roared, swelling a third time with dark might and raising his blade above Godfrey's head.
"It was already dead." Godfrey smirked, firing off one final shot at Tyrannus's head. Full of arrogance at his own power, Tyrannus lost the last of his health, dropping to his knees and abandoning his runeblade at his feet.
"Rimefang...war-"
"No," Godfrey said, blowing his head completely off his shoulders. Tyrannus was dead. The Forsaken brushed himself off, walking across the courtyard. "A pity. He was this close to earning another drake."

What do you guys think.....zombie quote of the week?

Rai, this is full of legendary win. I'd love it if a WoW Insider staff member approached you for a guest article in this vein!
Vladpr Mar 28th 2011 12:50PM
@Rai Your post made me vote for Godfrey ... awesome fight description!
Devin Mar 28th 2011 2:10PM
Best. Fight. Ever.
Xaklo Mar 28th 2011 2:36PM
Why do you not already work for Wowinsider? This post is amazing! And though it's *supposed* to be set in the wowinsider ring, placing the battle in SFK helps gives a vivid picture of each stage in the fight.
Stephanie Mar 28th 2011 2:51PM
Well done! I disagree completely in the whole Tyrannus losing to Godfrey, but well done anyway.
Oh and Rimfang is a girl.
MrBright01 Apr 1st 2011 12:14AM
Sir, your post is full of win and awesome. bravo for treating the dragon as a actual participant.
Trippy Mar 28th 2011 10:00AM
Tyrannus is so 2010. My vote goes to Godfrey.
Maymer Mar 28th 2011 10:01AM
Lord Godfrey huddled over his blood splattered workbench in the dreaded Shadowfang Keep. His rotting hands seemed to dance upon the remains, sewing all wounds as he went. He quickly and methodically filled areas of the corpse with a plethoria of potions and other fluids, bringing a sickly pale hue once again to the body.
Godfrey, for once, was thankful he was no longer of the living, for if so, his wonderous pet would never have been completed while waiting for him to do such meaningless tasks such as eating or sleeping. It was one of the very few moments since his suicide that he found any comfort in being a walking corpse, a shade of his former self, a proud lord of the Gilnean nation.
Godfrey looked over the body, then slowly to a dark corner, where a monstrous pile of dragon bones lay. It's skull still seemed alive, the dull, dark sockets, piercing through Godfrey's wicked heart, as if daring him to resurrect it.
"Oh, wicked beast...If you only KNEW what I had in plan for you and your master...now, then..."
Godfrey gently lifted a small vial of sickly green liquid, gently pouring it into the mouth of the body. Slowly, the body began to twitch, it's every neuron pulsing with unholy life once more.
"Now, then, my soldier...with this draught, you shall be my weapon against Sylvannas. Her Valkyrie are no match for a former Scourgelord...now rise! RISE TYRANNUS, AND BRING DEATH TO THE FORSAKEN!"
Godfrey screamed manically, watching with joy as Tyrannus's eyes flew open, and his mouth opened to unleash such a terrible and primal scream of hate, the very foundation of Shadowfang Keep shook.
"WHERE AM I!? WHO ARE YOU!?" screamed Tyrannus, his body flailing as it learned to move once more. No longer did the dark power's of his former master pump through him. Instead, this simple undead being seemed to expect utter devotion from him. "Who are you, and what do you want from me!?"
"I am your new lord and master, Godfrey. You shall address me as such, Tyrannus. I have brought you back to this world, armored you in the unholy protection once again with your saronite armor, and even armed you with your dreaded blade, all for one purpose. The slaughtering of the Forsaken, and the death of the Banshee Queen, Sylvannas!"
Godfrey quickly noticed a flash of black silver approaching him. With a panicked jump, he dodged the Scourgelord's blade.
"I HAVE only one master! And YOU are not my beloved Prince! I shall slaughter you, in the Lich King's name, and take this keep as the Scourge's!"
Godfrey eyed him with much thought and debate. He quickly began to calculate everything, taking this unfortunate, but not unaccounted for, turn of events. "Even so, Tyrannus, what strength could you possibly hope to have without your beloved pet frost wyrm, hmm?" goaded Godfrey.
"Unlike your pathetic grasp of death, I can easily call upon my servant back to life!" screamed Tyrannus. With a sudden motion of his hand, the room went deathly cold, the very air itself becoming painful to breath. The bones that were once the proud frost wyrm Rimefang began to shudder. Slowly, they lifted themselves in the air, regrouping and reforming into a vehicle of destruction.
At last, Rimefang was reborn. It's large body barely fit inside the room. With a sudden rush of air, Rimefang let out a mighty screech, launching itself through the roof, which shattered and then showered the two men with debris.
"Perfect," smiled Godfrey.
In the confusion, Godfrey whipped open his coat, pulling out his Dark Pistols. Without hesitation, he shot at Tyrannus, landing a dark bullet upon him that slowly began to consume the former Scourgelord.
"AUGH! Wha-what IS this dark sorcery!?"
"Nothing more than a little thing called thought and strategy...You REALLY should have invested more into that before you began showing off," smirked Godfrey.
Godfrey looked up at the sky, watching in horror as a large ball of ice came crashing towards him. He launched himself away, still being clipped from the shards of ice. Tyrannus was waiting.
Tyrannus grabbed Godfrey, and with a mighty blow, he sent Godfrey launching back towards the back wall.
Godfrey looked down at the dark gash. He would have to chalk up the fact he could still function well even after this as another benefit of death. He looked up in time to see Tyrannus coming down for the final attack. With a quick kick, Godfrey knocked Tyrannus back, and then promptly began to rain molten hell upon him, unleashing clip after clip of bullets.
Tyrannus, though hit multiple times, was able to dodge behind a stone table which had bodies piled high upon it. "Rimefang! Quickly! Unleash your frozen hell!"
Godfrey stopped his attack to dodge, only to feel a searing hot sensation upon his hand. Godfrey looked upon it, noting that a dark rune seemed to appear on it, almost as if was a branding. "Your simple mutilations can't destroy me Tyrannus. Now, where were we? Oh yes, filling you from foot to mouth with lead!"
Godfrey was able to aim a precise bullet at the exposed arm of Tyrannus, and shot. Without notice, his own arm became useless. Looking down in horror, Godfrey saw his own arm seemed to mirror the damage that Tyrannus just received. He realized that the brand seemed to mirror the damage he inflicted upon Tyrannus...but what about others?
As Tyrannus hid, Godfrey gathered the few unshattered vials of green potion, and then promptly tossed them at the table. With a roar, the corpses began to move, and then finally lift their shattered bodies of the table. "Quickly, my pets. Slaughter the Scourgelord!"
Tyrannus lept out of the gnawing teeth and sharped claws of the undead monstrosities. He quickly began to slash at them, their blood coating his blade in a sickly sheen of red. Without thinking, he branded one of the ghouls, which began to be torn apart everytime one of its claws landed on him. "You'll have to do better than that to destroy me Godfrey!"
"Already have," he replied coldly.
A burst of gunfire filled the room, followed by the screeching of Rimefang. Tyrannus looked in horror as his beloved Frost Wyrm fell to its death...right....above...him.
The room seemed to shatter, it's wood and stone flying through the air.
Godfrey calmly walked to the pinned body of Tyrannus, who's bones were crushed under the weight of the dead Rimefang. He looked up at Godfrey, eyes filled with hatred, yet could do nothing. With a calm aura, Godfrey gently knelt before Tyrannus.
"You know, when I was alive, there was one thing I noticed above all else, that made the slaughtering of one who was undead so much easier."
He slowly raised his gun, planting its barrel between Tyrannus's eyes.
"Always aim for the head."
BOOM!
cansylove Mar 28th 2011 10:15AM
Tyrannus is going to get murdered by Cursed Bullets. He has no way to dispel, and every cast is going to target him. Godfrey's "useless" ghouls are going to counter all of the Scourgelord's single target abilities. He really doesn't have a chance.
thegatherer Mar 28th 2011 10:27AM
all you need to know is Godfrey is doing something all hunters dream about: dual weilding pistols!
