WoW Insider's Weekly Webcomic: Safe Passage

Some people are good with kids; some people aren't. Even those who like kids can find that their patience can wane very quickly, especially in times of emergency. Kids or not, survival comes before emotions.

That seems a little harsh and out of character, but definately willing to see where this is going. =p

I dont know if I like the development or not!
On one hand Brynne screamed at the elf, called her a liar, and the elf asked her to be quiet several times, and is under alot of stress, wich would expalin the slap, BUT she is an adult and should show patience since she has just told them about their "papas" possible death?
Is she a kind of person to lose her patience and slap kids? Is this a way of making her look bad? CONFUSED

and they are not in a kind loving world where they have time for gentle discussions of loss, love, grief and moving forward. Not a big fan of seeing the kid slapped around myself either, but as a story point i think it is effective in demonstrating that 1) time is limited by the impending executions, 2) its a wake up call to the child that she isnt playing childish games anymore.

It definitely feels a bit out of character. Although, she is a hunter, not a druid. (Some of those night-elf druids remind me of the monk in that tissue commercial, where it says something about how the tissue kills 99% of the bacteria and the monk gets a look of alarm on his face. "We must not allow harm to come to any living creature. Unless, of course, you know, they... had it coming.")
Punishment of any kind - physical or not - is pointless if the recipient doesn't/can't learn something from it. So I guess we'll see how Brynne responds. On the one hand, it might be the shock she needs to "wake up" to what's going on around her. However, it's also tough to see someone hitting a kid like this.

The way I figure it, a screaming kid isn't going to help them at all if they want to discreetly break their friends out. It needed to stop if they were going to accomplish their goal, so Enarrai stopped it.
Second, as a Night Elf, Enarrai is probably used to a bit more emotional maturity from youngsters of her race that are at the same developmental state as Brynne. It's a normal response for a Human child, but since a Night Elf would probably be at least 20-30 years old, Enarrai probably sees it as overly childish.

I'm struggling with this though, I really am. I doubt hitting a child this way would be acceptable in many of the cultures in Azeroth. :(
I has a sad.
This update has me confused but, as always, looking forward to where the story is going.

The kid was just told that her family is likely dead. Any kid that handled that without tears would be ill.

Azeroth is not a friendly place. It is not the Happy Tree Kindergarten. They could very well be quillboar wreckage. I think a bit of a slap to get them to realize the seriousness of the situation was in order.
In all, it's probably light, considering that Azeroth, in my mind, is more like 11th century Earth than 21st.

True, but I can't help but see the parallel between the "kindly" actions of the grizzled Orc towards the little orc-kid in the beginning.
Yes, it's totally different circumstances and not nearly as dire. Still. Kid just lost her family. Crying about that is not exactly CHILDISH.

Even a child can tell most Alliance buildings are prefab.

"Maybe the prison here is the same..."
I love it. Because of course, all the caves in azeroth have one of three layouts and if you've seen those, you know how to navigate the others. Because all castles and fortresses have the same floorplan.
A subtle and delicious taste of meta.

My thoughts exactly.

"WE WANT OUR DAAAAAADYYYY!!!"
*slap* "Shut up, foo!"

I thought it seemed a bit abrupt in the handling. I could see a situation escalating to the response, but I think it would need more development. (Perhaps something to keep in mind if it reaches a book form... which I'd buy).

I think the slap made perfect sense. They need to move quickly to save Mig and Ash -- there's no time for niceties, and sometimes the only way you can snap a hysterical person -- especially an irrational little kid -- out of it is the shock of a quick whack upside the head. It's horrible for the kids, who are coming to grips with the idea of what death and loss mean, but they are in a life-or-death situation. There'll be time for grieving later.
