Heirloom items bound to Battle.net accounts on patch 4.1 PTR

It's too early to discern exactly what this new distinction means, but at the very least, you should be able to mail heirlooms to characters on your realm that are on a different WoW account but the same Battle.net account. It's not known whether or not you'll finally be allowed to mail heirlooms to different realms, but at least you'll be able to mail some heirlooms to that Recruit-a-Friend mule account you made. Pretty cool!
We'll let you know if Blizzard gives any official word on what's happening.
WoW Patch 4.1 is on the PTR, and WoW Insider has all the latest news for you -- from previews of the revamped Zul'Aman and Zul'Gurub to new valor point mechanics and new archaeology items.

Sadly it looks like this isn't what we're hoping for, at least not yet. First step, maybe. (Please don't vote down the messenger, lol)

Official Patch Notes update:
Account Bound Items
Many "Account Bound" heirlooms are now labeled as "Battle.net Account Bound", meaning that they can also be traded or mailed to characters that are on different World of Warcraft accounts under the same Battle.net account.
Mail sent to characters on the same Battle.net account now arrives instantaneously, as it does for the same World of Warcraft account.
Mailing account-bound items to characters of the opposite faction on the same Battle.net account will now correctly translate faction-specific items to their appropriate equivalent.

How about mailing them across the continental divide? I would love to send some heirlooms from my US main to an EU alt!

Please, please, please... oh please let it work for mailing cross-realm.
ghola Mar 30th 2011 8:45PM
That'd be pretty great if it was not just cross bnet, but faction as well.
Saeadame Mar 30th 2011 8:46PM
I'm pretty sure I heard you can already mail things cross faction within the same server. I haven't personally tried it, but I remember someone saying they had and it worked.

heirlooms can be sent across factions since a long time ago o:
wutsconflag Mar 30th 2011 8:50PM
Heirlooms can already be sent cross-faction. ;)
Ominous Mar 30th 2011 8:51PM
Ditto. I'd like to know if we're able to mail heirlooms cross faction (same server). If anyone can link to a post that confirms it, that would be even better.
xEROFX Mar 30th 2011 8:58PM
Can be mailed cross faction, as long as it is the only thing being sent.

and if you need gold on the other side of the force, just tell a friend to put up an item at a ridiculous price on a neutral AH in the faction where u need the cash and then buy it with your toon on the opposing faction. Of course you'll lose a lot of money thanks to the tax (I sent 9k once and got 7k) but it's still a good method to get money and not having to start from scratch :D

I don't have a quote that proves it, but I can tell you that I mail heirlooms back and forth between my alliance and horde toons all the time. Believe me, it's true.

I paid to faction transfer a character with heirlooms in anticipation of worgen a few months before Cata launched. And then like two months later they enabled cross faction heirloom mailing >.<
I wish they would hurry up and enable cross SERVER heirloom transfer as I have one of every class on my main server but I still want to explore all the new 1-60 stuff with a pimped out character.
Sidone Mar 31st 2011 5:08AM
theRaptor: they enabled cross faction heirloom mailing way before that, patch 3.3 i believe

My fingers are crossed so hard that this means inter-server heirlooms.
dpoyesac Mar 30th 2011 9:56PM
My fingers AND my toes are crossed.
Typing this was a real PITA. (That's right, I type with my toes.)
Szass Mar 30th 2011 8:48PM
This obviously means you will be able to mail your heirlooms to your Diablo3 characters.
Texanatthedoor Mar 30th 2011 9:12PM
Old show, good chap. Wait, flip that.

Sweet! Can't wait to get HoTo and Enigma on my Draenei Palladin!

What about mailing across other Blizzard games? I can't tell you how satisfying it would be to take a Thor into the next Tol Barad fight.
