The Daily Quest: Addons and accessories

WoW Insider's on a Daily Quest to bring you interesting, informative and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.
I've mentioned my bank before. It's crammed full. It's been crammed full since about two months into Wrath of the Lich King, and while some items have been deleted, they have been immediately replaced with other items in a never-ending circle of my-bank-is-full-itis, a disease that is apparently shared by many.
It was the inclusion of the above screenshot, however, that spurred many readers into inquiring why I didn't have an inventory addon. While I hate to admit ignorance, the sad truth is that I simply wasn't aware there were inventory addons out there. Now that I have one, my bank looks slightly more organized -- and full. Yep, it's still full.
Today, we've got a sampling of posts from around the blogosphere discussing a few helpful addons, plus additions of a more indulgent sort in the form of accessories.
- Grimmtooth's Troops has a five-part series that compares and contrasts the merits of several different HUD addons.
- Totem Forest discusses the super-cool addon DeathNote.
- Lastly, The WoW Debutante discusses the joys of adding weapons to your character as accessories.

What a curious place to leave your cursor... Show off! *grin*

Death Note looks interesting, but I already use Acheron. Maybe I'll try them out side-by-side for a while; they seem to have very similar function with different UIs.

Finally, someone noticed Deathnote!
hope it will evolve

I didn't think an inventory addon was important, until I set up ArkInventory and now I can't live without it. It's a bit underwhelming out of the box - all your bags show as one giant bag. You can have it automatically show things in their own sections based on any kind of information, though - it's an herb, it's soulbound, it's >=359 ilvl, it's part of a particular gearset, etc. Add in "restack" commands, customizable sorting (ilvl, name, rarity, etc), and it's incredibly useful.

Totally agree, if I could pick just one addon it would be Arkinventory.
My favorite part of the mod is that you can find ANYTHING you have - even if its on your alt, in the guildbank, etc. It has a seach funcion, you type the name (for example volatile life) and get a nice list: 3 at my warlock alt, 20 in my bank character's bank slot, 10 in guildbank 2nd tab, etc.
Also, if you just move your cursor on an item, it shows the same info - who has it, and how many. You can also just open any bag from anywhere to view - your alt's bank, guildbank, etc. Same for money, it shows all your characters.
Very handy if you have lots of alts with crafting professions.

In the ever-ongoing argument of what the most important addon to have is, I have to say that a bag addon is by far the most useful thing a person can obtain.
I like bagnon, but onebag and arkinventory and basically ANYTHING BUT THE DEFAULT UI is an improvement.
Really, I just don't understand why blizzard doesn't hire some of these addon authors to spruce up their UI, it would seem like a no-brainer to me.

I used to use Acheron until it stopped working/stopped being supported. I then switched to Expiration. Anyone used both and have a case for one over the other?
Sterb Mar 30th 2011 8:05PM
Both being Expiration and Deathnote.

Just put up the conclusion of my three part series on my fears of tanking.

You mentioned about blogs you should follow. Mine is still finding it's feet but it did make the MMO Melting Pot - New Blog Roundup last week ( http://www.mmomeltingpot.com/2011/03/new-blog-roundup/ ) You can find my blog at http://rigarmorty.blogspot.com It's a mage blog but I also have and audio series that i do which is called Azeroth Food Epidemic.
Here's the descriptive from the MMO Melting Pot listing:
"•Rigarmorty – this is an interesting mix in the making. Rigarmorty’s mostly a mage-centric blog, though he also chats about his alts and… food. Yeap, sounds weird, but it works and it’s all WoW related. The food thing is an audio skit series which sounds quite intriguing, and Rigar’s dedicated to his magery too. "
Huge fan of yours both in your writings here and Co-host on All Things Azeroth.
Cheers,
Rigarmorty

I just wrote another post- How to Be A Polite Lock...or Other Class
