Breakfast Topic: How did you like our April Fools' Day joke?

But this year just took the cake. I can't tell you how proud I am of the entire team for working so hard to pull it off. From our columnists to our editors, we all worked so incredibly hard, and I'm sure if you were watching the site yesterday, you have to agree: It paid off. This was most definitely our best April Fools' Day joke of all time.
So here's my question: What did you think of our joke this year? What was your favorite moment? I'd share mine, but it was all so amazing, that picking just one thing would be a total Sophie's Choice.

I loved it. My favorite was our machinima video we had commissioned of Fox doing that dance. Fracking. Amazing.

The Stephen Colbert version actually makes the song....bearable.

The Stephen Colbert version is now the official version in my mind.

The song is still absolutely god-awful, but I was at least entertained by that version.

While I love Corbert in all his glory, I can't, in my heart of hearts, agree his is the best. I personally prefer Matt Mulholland's haunting version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxleH60hDJY It moved me deeply.

Am I the only one who thinks "gotta have my bowl" sounds like she's talking about smoking pot?

Ill probably get downrated for this but, not doing anything for April Fools is kinda lame. To each there own i guess =/

For the record, I totally called it when I saw the first "It will be up soon" post, on Twitter I think. I only told my wife though, so I can't prove it. And I do think having a post going "ha ha weren't we funny" after not having anything is kind of overly meta.
That said, I think they're kind of ahead of the curve on this one. It's a bit overdone at this point. Slashdot's made reading their site through RSS a massive pain. A lot of the other sites I visit were just predictable. Even Think Geek didn't have too much going for them this year (though I do want the Apple Store Playmobile set.) The only one that made me actually laugh was the Blizzard stuff, and nothing fooled me.
Hopefully, more sites will realize that it's tougher to one up themselves every year and dial it back a bit. One really good, believable post mixed in with regular content maybe, or just letting things go unremarked on for a while so the wonder builds back up, seems a good idea.

Stupid comment system is stupid

I think the only April Fools thing I saw this year that actually had me going was the 'The Aurors' trailer that IGN put up. Only because, what with all the other supernatural procedurals being done this year, it seems strange that the 900 lb gorilla in the room that is Harry Potter isn't in on it.

Maybe I'm in the minority on this but 1 April has become the day I try to avoid looking at ANY news sites because everyone is trying to be cutesy with their jokes, when all I really want is the true news. I think it's a maturation mark for a news site when they just don't participate, or clearly mark items as fake. For example, you'll note that CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, etc don't sit there reporting fake stories all day on 1 April... they understand some of us still live in the real world and need real news on that day too.
Squelchy Apr 2nd 2011 9:02AM
You're absolutely right, they save their fake reporting for every other day of the year. Zing!
CDave Apr 2nd 2011 9:23AM
It makes me happy that you didn't include Fox News
swampthing Apr 2nd 2011 9:51AM
I couldn't include FOX News because every day is April Fool's for them.

Lame political meme is lame.
SamLowry Apr 3rd 2011 12:18AM
I'm coming at this from the opposite angle: I was actually looking for April Fool's content all day yesterday and largely came up empty--Google and Blizzard were about it. And even then there was nothing even close to previous years' WiiHelm, Alpine Wii, or Alanis singing a slow, tragic version of "My Humps".
