Breakfast Topic: How did you like our April Fools' Day joke?

But this year just took the cake. I can't tell you how proud I am of the entire team for working so hard to pull it off. From our columnists to our editors, we all worked so incredibly hard, and I'm sure if you were watching the site yesterday, you have to agree: It paid off. This was most definitely our best April Fools' Day joke of all time.
So here's my question: What did you think of our joke this year? What was your favorite moment? I'd share mine, but it was all so amazing, that picking just one thing would be a total Sophie's Choice.

See, the mistake here is that people don't like April fools because they actually like being tricked, they like april fools because they get to see something hilarious. Doing nothing falls in the first category: the "joke" is on the readers, hence its not funny to us. I was disappointed, but I'll live. Google made me laugh, and thats good enough.
INTERNETZ IZ SRIOUS BIZNIS! >:(
(that last one was sarcasm btw)

I hope this is merely because last year was so over the top. I thought there was enough... joke last year for two years and it seems you agreed (although, there was some actual useful information, especially from PvZ Insider).
I hope this because any website that pays its writers and doesn't do April Fools is taking things too seriously. You guys have always been the first to remind us that WoW is just a game and not srs bsns.

I gotta make a correction:
Doing nothing for April Fools: Lame.
Doing nothing for April Fools, then making a post about how awesome your April Fool's day joke was so the haters can make fools of themselves in the comments? Epic.
In the words of Katt Williams: "The hater *is* the god-****ed joke."

What was it? Don't think I recall seeing a joke on this site yesterday.

I DECLARE VICTORY.

Haha, wow I can't believe people are upset about this. I thought it was great. I assumed as soon as I got up and there wasn't anything that it wouldn't be anything.
Personally, I am happy. It's kinda funny, on one or two sites, but when every.single.site I visit all day has them, it is like, ugh, too much.
Thanks WoWInsider, I enjoyed it. :)

I don't think people are upset about the fact that there WASN'T any April Fool's Day joke; people are upset that they didn't do anything and then basically went "Hey! Did you notice? How cool was THAT?! Can... we... pat ourselves on the back any harder?"
Also, this is all just my inference from reading the comments. Personally, I couldn't give two s**ts about this one way or the other. The whole thing seems trivial to me, tbh.

Agreed. I want and expect foolish content on April 1, and WowInsider totally failed.
ZephyrSP Apr 2nd 2011 1:29PM
how did i like it? I liked it just fine...until this post

I enjoy April Fools' Day online because of how silly everything is for a day. (Although, I tend to prefer the obviously fake and amusing jokes. (Such as Blizz's jokes yesterday, and especially the patch notes.)
So the fact that WoW Insider did nothing was pretty boring to me. And then, we have this. On the one hand, doing nothing and then bragging like you did something is kind of lame. On the other hand, this is also kind of meta, which vaguely appeals to me.
Long story short: I can't decide whether to roll my eyes at this post, or give a vague, half-hearted chuckle.
SamLowry Apr 3rd 2011 12:31AM
Sorry, but no "meta" for me, please.
I've had a long, burning hatred of David Letterman for quite a while now because he puts more emphasis on "meta" than actually interviewing the guests listed at the top of the frickin' show. (And if you're really wondering, it's because they bumped Laurie Anderson to do an extended Larry "Bud" Melman bit fifteen, maybe twenty years ago. My hatred has a very long wick, as you can plainly see.)

It's hard for an egotist like me to admit, but your jokes yesterday were way too subtle for me. I didn't get a single one :C

What did I think of the April Fools Joke?
I'm reminded of "the Game."
In this case, if not having an April Fools was the April Fools, then you lost ;-)

Amaxe Apr 2nd 2011 4:04PM
And yes, I know, by mentioning the game, I lost the game.
jrockzmyv382 Apr 2nd 2011 4:33PM
CRAP! I lost, too!!!!! Damn you... damn you to hell... :)

Meh, just seemed like another excuse for GC to troll the players with sarcasm.
Boreddruid Apr 2nd 2011 6:19PM
I was honestly disappointed that you didn't do anything, especially because I loved last year's one.
Chiroptera Apr 2nd 2011 6:30PM
I am disgusted you have used a reference to Sophies Choice in picking the best "April Fools" moment. The title of the book/movie comes from when being unloaded in Auschwitz, the Nazi death camp, Sophie was asked to choose which of her children would live and which would die. When she was unable to choose, a Nazi officer said both would be sent to die, so she chose one of them, Jan, to survive.
This is offensive in the extreme to use this reference so flippantly
RetPallyJil Apr 2nd 2011 7:44PM
A book is a book. The Holocaust is the Holocaust.
They made a passing reference to a book title that was made into an Oscar-winning motion picture, and thus passed into common parlance.
Take your righteous indignation elsewhere, you needy attention whore.

Ignore Retpallyjil, Chiroptera - SHE is the needy attention whore.
