There is another route, similar to what you mentioned above. Removing pet utilities from the pet and giving them to the warlock.Warlocks are always balanced around having the right pet out for every situation, because balancing them otherwise makes pets either unimportant or overpowered. This was remedied a bit by the soul burn + summon combo, but it is still a very large underlying condition. In pvp the issue comes to do I want to use a dps pet, or the fel hunter. The fel hunter has two big utilities, an interrupt/silence and a offensive dispel. Two very huge abilities when you are ever going into a situation where the opponent (player or team) has a caster of any sort. The interrupt is the largest of the two abilities. It would be very helpful if warlocks were given their own interrupt/silence that they can use, regardless of what pet they have out; AND then, balance spell lock around the presence of another silence at the warlock's disposal. i.e. Death knights have mind freeze and strangulate, make the warlock's interrupt the mind freeze and the fel hunter's spell lock an equivalent to strangulate. With that dilemma taken care of, the need to choose between pets for each spec is less of an opportunity cost for dps.As for the succubus, it has its own unique niche that is not viewed often in most forms of play. The succubus is a very good defensive pet, in a pvp scene and a good control pet for 5 mans. Whiplash and seduce are very useful when you are in pvp. Seduce helps you peel something off you or a teammate without requiring you to do it. Whiplash can help you get someone away from you, be it for kiting, or to toss them off a cliff, or down terrain in general. While 5 mans are ground breaking content, they are apart of at least your weekly routine if you play the game. Having additional CC at your disposal, or just having your succubus take care of it, so you don't have to stop chain casting, is useful beyond comparison. All in all, I do agree that warlock pets are still as poorly implemented as they were in WotLK, and in previous implements of the game. I do not agree with either normalizing dps, or normalizing utility will fix the problem.
