Breakfast Topic: Do you collect anything in WoW?

I'll admit, I have an obsession with companion pets -- much to my warlock's chagrin. She'd much prefer to burn the little critters, but I can't help amassing as large a collection as I can. At last count, I had over 100 pets and am still striving to get even more. While I have several titles, special mounts, and the like, I devote more time to building my pet collection than anything else.
Of course, my collection wouldn't be where it is today without the help of some really good friends (especially the one who tirelessly slaved away killing Bogflare Needlers for my coveted Captured Firefly -- eeeek!).
Do you collect anything in WoW? Whether it be common things like mounts or titles, or something a little more obscure, I want to hear about it -- unless, of course, you have a better pet collection than I do. Don't make me cry.

Come on people... I google "things to collect in world of warcraft" and i come up with five thousand links going to " MOUNTS MOUNTS MOUNTS ARMOR PETS PETS ARMOR" There are already thousands of forums about that. Dont get me wrong I have upwards of 90+ pets and 115+ mounts, but nobody wants to hear about how "ooh i love pets" tell us about something new. I, for example, collect buffs/quest items that are off the GCD. I macro them into moves, so you will randomly see an archmage argoth, or a depleted totem, or a clone of me sitting there looking at you, or i will randomly turn into a blood elf. Anything off of the global cooldown i collect that has a cool effect. Also, buffs. The haunted momento, precious's ribbon, the ghost revealer, two (that i am an idiot for turning in) others are the wart remover from the argent dailies, and the "strange feeling" debuff from a quest in howling fjord. Also, items that stack up charges, and consume them to do something, when you un-equip them, you retain the charges in your buffs. Such as the archaeology night elf trinket, the sunwell healing trinket from magister's terrace, and about 7 others, equip the trinket, get a charge or 2, unequip it, and you keep the buffs for as long as you live. if anyone else knows of any buffs that you can obtain, PLEASE let me know. (still working on the slime pet)
another more generic set of things i collect is armor with flavor text on it, i am trying to get a full flavor text set for me (soronemus) (the one and only, armory me).
I collect porting items, to make myself as much of a priest mage hybrid as possible lol. I have everything except the black temple necklace, and the shadowmourne dalaran trink (which i will have soon).
Another thing i try to collect are (cool) items/mounts that can not be obtained anymore. sadly the only mount i have like this is the zhevra, I die a little inside every time i see someone with a black/plagued protodrake in SW, along with past arena season mounts.
Overall, I collect whatever I can to be different from other characters in wow, to make other players jealous, I have put together ICC 25 and ulduar 25 groups for the last 3 months trying to get my buddy shadowmourne, and me the ulduar mace so that i can be that guy who sits in stormwind, on his crimson deathcharger, in frost dwarf form, with 3 rows of buffs, and the legendary mace.
If anyone has any other items/buffs i have not mentioned or you think i would like (if someone responds with how they have a cool armor set or with how many mounts/pets i have i will slap you) please let me know!!
love you all.

At the end of Wrath I was attempting to justify continued payment of game time cause the content got so boring. I decided to get the full Dungeon Set 1 and have been addicted to collecting armor sets ever since. My bank bags give testimony of this.

Bank alt clothing :) I am just about to do my first Black Embersilk gown

How much do you guys think someone would pay for that if I would craft it for sale? I have a bunch of chaos orbs
quasarsglow Apr 4th 2011 8:53AM
By a bunch, if you mean more than 5, I think you will get better use by creating Dream of Destruction cloth and using it to make epic pants/belts. No cooldown on Destruction cloth.
Maybe its different if you are on an RP server, but I've never seen anyone willing to pay 5 grand for zero stat clothes, which is about what epic pants bring in for me.
Neyssa Apr 4th 2011 10:22AM
With Dream of Destruction, you need 5 chaos orb for 1 dreamcloth.
For an epic, you need 4 or 6 dreamcloth, meaning 20-30 chaos orb (if you only use CO).
I calculate the price of a Dreamcloth based on the lowest possible price on our server:
Spellthreads (1 DC) is around 600-700 g
Epics (4 DC) around 3000 g - so 750 g each DC
Epics (6 DC) around 4000 g - 650 g for one DC
Illusionary bag (8 DC) for about 6000 g - 750 g again.
So to sum it up: 1 piece of dreamcloth is worth about 700 g. If you make Dream of Destruction, which requires 5 chaos orbs (and dont even count cloth), your chaos orb is worth less than 150 g.
If I can sell this lovely dress for 500 g (according to WoWhead), than using chaos orb on this is much more worth it.

The only thing i would caution is that the demand for Black Embersilk Gowns isn't very high most places, even on RP servers.. you might sell a few, but at some point every bank alt is going to have one and then there will be nothing. :(

I once tried collecting pets, but found I didn't enjoy it much... Perhaps I shouldn't have tried it on a rogue. Kind of kills the point of being all sneaky and stabbity when you've got a tiny cute thing following you around. ^_^ Though my engineering mage is doing her best to collect all the engineering pets; I was lucky enough to get her both schematics from Gnomeregan. Still need the squirrel, though.
Other than that, I tend to collect things that are appropriate for my characters, or something that comes up as I play them. My main mage collects purple mounts, and it's likely that my shaman will follow that up with collecting white mounts. (Which means she'll have a lot more than just white ones if she wants that albino drake. Oi.) Most of my characters of decent level have a small collection of clothing/armor pieces that look nifty, stuff to wear when I'm in a major city and/or just hanging out with friends.

Sadly, the 'Albino' Drake is nowhere near an Albino... if it was, it might actually look cool. White, Tan and Blue is no way to go through life son...

I've only recently started collecting Tier gear for my mage. That's about it really unless you count achievement points?
Debesun Apr 4th 2011 8:08AM
I collect rocks, pet rocks, tinted rocks, rock chips, rock tools, lucky rocks, unlucky rocks, mysterious rocks, interesting rocks (more interesting than most), pretty rocks, very pretty rocks, colourful rocks and origami rocks.
I also enjoy collecting Steamy Romance Novels.
Debesun Apr 4th 2011 8:14AM
I should also mention that I've started an offshoot interest relating to my rock collection and into collecting pebbles. Oh all the interesting new content cata has brought us!
Fletcher Apr 4th 2011 8:20AM
I believe Dawn Moore also shares your rock collecting habit; and certainly Blizzard has added more rocks to collect in Cataclysm!

If you roll a Goblin, or know someone still in the starting area, you can get a chunk of Mount Kajaro. While it doesn't say "rock" in the name, it definitely is a rock.

When I link my [A Pretty Rock] to people, the reaction is universally one of envy.
Seriously.
I think it's because we have all looked down and picked up A Pretty Rock at some point in our lives, so we have a mental connection to the very idea.

I collect gray items (junk). I currently have a 'museum' between two guild banks, totally 12 guild tabs. It started a couple years ago when I found a few funny gray items, and quickly grew into a massive hobby.
Before my collection grew into the second guild bank, I would give RP tours of the 'museum' on my 'museum curator': Riplington. My server is quite familiar with Riplington and his traveling museum of debris.
If there was a better way to share /store my collection, I would have every single gray item, no matter how mundane. However, I have chose not to collect the sets of gray armors anymore--though I seriously am thinking about making a third guild bank just to collect them, however I don't believe that would even be enough space to display them all properly.
A lot of people think i'm nuts for doing it, but I absolutely love it. There are still some grays out there that I don't have, and as new content comes out, you can be sure that new grays will have me running around, searching! :)
