PTR patch 4.1: New fishing dailies appearing in Undercity

Blizzard has stated that Cataclysm is intended to keep both Orgrimmar and Stormwind as the central hubs for players to congregate in, with portals to Cataclysm zones and daily profession hubs. With new fishing dailies being added to other cities, players will be traveling to different cities just a boat or zeppelin ride away to make use of some of the underused assets in the game. If people have now noticed, the amount of content being added for patch 4.1 (and potentially, 4.2) constantly grows larger. Combined, these could be some of the more feature-rich patches in WoW's history.
WoW Patch 4.1 is on the PTR, and WoW Insider has all the latest news for you -- from previews of the revamped Zul'Aman and Zul'Gurub to new valor point mechanics and new archaeology items.

I am still pissed they disabled fishing in the Mystic Ward. Really? Was that pond outside the port-in point too much?
I can go fish in LAVA, yet I can't fish in a shallow pool at one end of IF.

We used to be able to fish the little pool in front of the Mystic Ward too, but Blizzard removed the ability to fish there. :(
Imagine if they added a daily that required you fish the lava in the Great Forge. They could give you a quest item that let you fish there just for that quest. It'd be so awesome!

Yeah that was a head scratcher. I was actually standing there after a mini horde invasion while someone fished up old Ironjaw. Until that point I didn't know you could fish that little area. I am totally pumped up they are adding a fishing quest to UC even though I don't really play horde. It has been on of my battle cries for the past few months. Perhaps this is a taste of what is to come. No reason in my opinion why they couldn't offer 1-2 dailies in the capital cities to keep people circulating around. With the additions of portals to-from Exodar in Darnassus it makes hitting all 4 alliance capitals a little bit swifter. I have noticed more people going back to or hanging out in dalaran. More mages than not but a decent amount compared to the 1-2 the first couple months of Cata.

Dailies in Darnassus would just be cruel and unusual.

Theres always forlorn cavern, at least you could fish there.. I thought that was where ironjaw was. Though, for the record, I've tried and failed at fishing him up.
Adding a daily or 2 to each of the cities for each faction would be great. And it would give incentive for those who haven't gotten achievements like Ironjaw (and the horde equivalent which I forget) to make some attempts while in IF picking up/turning in the daily. It would also give the non-dranei a reason to go to exodar - which I personally avoid if I can. I always get lost in there.
There's also that fishing diplomat achievement for adventurous fisherman.. which I haven't even attempted the Orgrimmar part of yet.

I too wear my tier 10 to work at the middle of nowhere inn I work at. =)

Hopefully this will be expanded so the other cities get more traffic. As much as the Stormwind/Orgrimmar changes are pretty, it's somehow incredibly depressing to see Ironforge with a total population of four lowbies.
My very first character was a Gnome, made years ago, and from the moment I took my first steps into Ironforge's Commons it was absolutely bustling with people. Now for the first time since WoW launched it's utterly abandoned. It really makes me sad.

Yeah. Before the shattering IF was the home base for all my toons. I like less populated areas but not ghost towns. Plus with the Dalaran on hearth another city was just a mouse click away. I have moved back a couple toons and have their hearths there but it's almost depressing to hang out there and have less people go by than even Exodar. Here's hoping that IF and our other capitals get some love in the not too distant future. It would also be nice to lower the fishing daily minimum level to 65 in Shatt and Dalaran.

Could they possibly increase the height of the Undercity elevator archs so my tauren and kodo can ride underneath without getting stuck?
SumDuud Apr 4th 2011 5:08PM
It's still fishing.
Lemons Apr 4th 2011 5:31PM
Well thank god. If there's a new fishing daily in dal then maybe they can give us a decent rewards, ya know, for us 85 players. I'm tired of opening my satchel only to find a ball of loose twine or somesuch junk that vendors for a few copper. Good to see they might be moving away from the "one-size-fits-all" cooking/fishing dailies.

The current lot of fishing dailys are just plain awful.
Once you've completed the achievement, leveled your fishing to 525 there's absolutely no incentive to continue doing them. Why ? Well apart from the low gold payout the biggest disincentive are the rewards from the Bag of Shiny Things:
Weather Beaten Fishing Hat (been around since Burning Crusade patch 2.4.0. 25th March 2008), Strand Crawler Pet, Jeweled and Bone Fishing Poles (been around since Wrath of the Lich King patch 3.1.0. 14th April 2009).
That's it. Recycled rewards from the past two expansions. All the other drops from the bag are low value vendor trash, and to add insult to injury both of the Wotlk fishing rods have been nerfed in value from gold to mere silver.
Look at the BC fishing rewards: 4 pets, 2 Ring, Blue Gem, Fishing Line, Recipe, Hat.
WotLK: Pet, Rods, 2 Quest Starters, 5 Ring, High Value Vendor Trash, Epic Gems, (BC Hat, recipe and Fishing Line), Tiny Titanium Lockbox.
And just to top off how god awful fishing is, on the PTR at the moment the infamous Glass Fishing Bobber becomes a simple lure: +15 skill for 10 minutes.
So here's my suggestion, upgrade the rewards to Cataclysm standard, after all its a new expansion, so how about some new rewards ? Add some new rare or even epic items to Cataclysm fishing pools (and provide an incentive for small guilds to complete the ill conceived Catch 10,000 fish from pools achievement) Give some reason to go back and do them.

I don't even go to SW, or Org. after 4pm. It's a giant Lagfest on my labtop and has slowdown my pc. At least with dal and shatt there was no AH. People there usually were waiting for runs and doing quests. Now with the highest amount of players bliz has ever had, they all are in those cities, unless doing quests.
Now with everything in those 2 cities, it's hurrible. And everyone has to use a drake. just sitting around. I hate those 2 cities. Atleast my IF and TB is a breath of fresh air. It is great. I would make 2 different cities per side. But our luck it will be silvermoon, and exodar

Yes, if 4.1 and 4.2 were combined, it would be a very feature-rich patch.
Not as feature-rich as if 3.1 and 3.2 were combined, though, much less 3.2 and 3.3 combined! Wait, what if 3.1 and 3.3 were combined? Ulduar AND ICC AND 3 5mans in one patch! That would be mighty feature-rich!
Koleckai Apr 4th 2011 7:21PM
If they really want more frequent content patches, they need to learn how to lock this stuff down and publish it. Every week, they add more to 4.1 and it is going to take just as long as if it had a raid.
Leviathon Apr 4th 2011 10:47PM
I honestly have felt the entire time that they just didn't want to admit that Firelands wasn't ready yet and really should not have used the whole 'faster patches' term. Even IF this weeks patch is a Release candidate we still won't see 4.1 till the 18th at the earliest as Release candidates usually are up for 2 weeks. By the time 4.1 comes out they could have easily tested Firelands and got it out if it was actually ready.
