WoW remote guild chat updated

Blizzard has posted new information regarding the latest addition to the World of Warcraft Remote service. Using their iPhone, iPod or Android device players will soon be able to access guild chat, officer chat, and send whispers to guild members without even having to step a virtual foot into the game. This comes on top of the app's ability to access the action house from your mobile device already.
Keeping tabs with your guild can be a huge asset, especially for the larger guilds out there. While the AH feature has already been a hit with players, this new addition holds a lot of great potential. Running late for a raid? Just log right into guild chat and keep everyone up to date on your status. The feature will also provide access to viewing and responding to calendar events as well.
The offical statement on the matter posted in the WoW community blog can be viewed after the break.
We recently updated the World of Warcraft Remote page with new screenshots and information about the upcoming mobile guild chat feature, currently in development for iPhone®, iPod touch®, and Android™. This new feature will allow World of Warcraft Remote subscribers to participate in guild chat, send whispers to their guildmates, and more through their phone or mobile device. We'll have more information on the availability of this fanciful feat of gnomish engineering soon, so keep your goggles glued to the official World of Warcraft website.

With only the AH feature, snagging the WoW Remote service is still a good deal for those savvy auctioneers that can't always find the time that they need to be in the game itself. This new additional functionality certainly adds a huge increase in the appeal of the application. The best news to come of this so far is that there hasn't been any mention of an increase in the price of the service; which essentially means that existing users will just be getting more bang for their buck.
If you haven't picked up the WoW Remote service yet, this may very well be the thing that draws you in. Not everyone may be big into the AH game, but guilds are the social backbone supporting WoW. Having access to guild chat virtually anywhere and at anytime is a major improvement.
Hopefully this also means there will be more features to come in the future for the WoW Remote service. Banking? Mailing? Who knows what the future will hold, but it certainly looks bright.

Sounds awesome, but I don't really wanna pay the extra sub fee. Still, pretty nice for those who choose to use it.

Meanwhile, ANet is promising for GW2 the same thing: remote access to the AH and guild chat.
Difference being, they say it's going to be free.

Yeah. It all sounds rather handy. But not at the price they want. Its starting to feel like being nickle-and-dimed.

Yet another reason for me to hold off on getting a smartphone, or I'll never get ANYTHING done at work.

This plus the Tumblr app means I'm never going to see my girlfriend ever again. I already miss her.
johnthediver Apr 6th 2011 7:24PM
Yeah right. You really expect us to believe a wow player has a girlfriend?
(I am kidding, I do know there are all kinds playing WoW, some of us even married...stupid wives...children...ruining my good time...)
johnthediver Apr 6th 2011 7:25PM
Oops. That is wife...I only have one. Shudder at the thought of more than one wife.
Sneakers Apr 6th 2011 7:39PM
Whats the Tumblr app?

"Shudder at the thought of more than one wife."
Absolutely. One is more than enough.
Adam Apr 6th 2011 7:11PM
Yeah I agree. 15$ a month is fine enough for me, no need to increase that.if it were a 'value added item to encourage me to stay with wow then it would definitely do the trick.

Gotta get down to the bus stop. Gotta catch my bus.
*glances down at guild chat app*
I see my friends!
Piper Apr 6th 2011 7:18PM
Guild chat isn't that a big a deal to me. If I could whisper folks on my friends' lists or ReadID folks, now that would be nice.
Tyler Caraway Apr 6th 2011 7:27PM
I'd imagine that realID integration is probably one of the next things they'll do, but that would require shifting the entire application onto the Battle.net service in some way or another. Then again, Blizzard might assume you already have outside means of contact with readID people and not think it's worth the investment.
Friend's list certainly seems plausible as well.

I'd like to see the Official Armory app hit Android Stores...
Imi Apr 6th 2011 8:21PM
Me too! The ones that are out aren't bad but it would sure be nice to have the real deal!
str8key2 Apr 6th 2011 8:29PM
no kidding, the 3rd party armory apps are bad
Prelimar Apr 6th 2011 7:47PM
omg, i am DOOMED if i get this. i have a hard time getting work done as it is!
Joshua Apr 6th 2011 7:54PM
I'd love to see this for the windows 7 platform too. Got an armory app, but if I could have this and the vent app on my windows 7 phone.. Oh the thought alone makes me warm and fuzzy inside.

I really enjoy my guildmates, and I'm sure this comment is going to get downgraded into oblivion, but can't think of any other way to describe this program other than pointless. If I'm not on WoW then I really can't think of a reason that I need to talk to Guildmates.
Rob Apr 6th 2011 7:58PM
About the only reason was if 1) you no longer play but still want to keep in touch, or 2) you are late for a raid. But, most serious guilds have a guild site (but to the but, most people don't use it).
