WoW remote guild chat updated

Blizzard has posted new information regarding the latest addition to the World of Warcraft Remote service. Using their iPhone, iPod or Android device players will soon be able to access guild chat, officer chat, and send whispers to guild members without even having to step a virtual foot into the game. This comes on top of the app's ability to access the action house from your mobile device already.
Keeping tabs with your guild can be a huge asset, especially for the larger guilds out there. While the AH feature has already been a hit with players, this new addition holds a lot of great potential. Running late for a raid? Just log right into guild chat and keep everyone up to date on your status. The feature will also provide access to viewing and responding to calendar events as well.
The offical statement on the matter posted in the WoW community blog can be viewed after the break.
WoW Remote Service in-game chat functionality
We recently updated the World of Warcraft Remote page with new screenshots and information about the upcoming mobile guild chat feature, currently in development for iPhone®, iPod touch®, and Android™. This new feature will allow World of Warcraft Remote subscribers to participate in guild chat, send whispers to their guildmates, and more through their phone or mobile device. We'll have more information on the availability of this fanciful feat of gnomish engineering soon, so keep your goggles glued to the official World of Warcraft website.

With only the AH feature, snagging the WoW Remote service is still a good deal for those savvy auctioneers that can't always find the time that they need to be in the game itself. This new additional functionality certainly adds a huge increase in the appeal of the application. The best news to come of this so far is that there hasn't been any mention of an increase in the price of the service; which essentially means that existing users will just be getting more bang for their buck.
If you haven't picked up the WoW Remote service yet, this may very well be the thing that draws you in. Not everyone may be big into the AH game, but guilds are the social backbone supporting WoW. Having access to guild chat virtually anywhere and at anytime is a major improvement.
Hopefully this also means there will be more features to come in the future for the WoW Remote service. Banking? Mailing? Who knows what the future will hold, but it certainly looks bright.

I agree with Matt and just want to add to the similar opinions of others who not only find this pointless but think it's too much socialization.
I mean really, there is such a thing as being too socialized. With all the social networking technology available today, I fear many have already become over socialized. Take a break already. Do you really need to be in contact with or around your friends (acquaintances) ALL the time? I think many have forgotten or never learned how to be alone in a healthy way.

I still wish there was an IM service that worked through Battle.net so you didnt have to log in to message your friends.

Is there no way to access this feature on a computer instead of a smartphone? It would be handy for those of us with good computer access at work :)

Emulators, perhaps.
Will have to test it out when I install the iOS dev suite.

I wish instead of adding to the armory app, they would first fix what is already on there. You can't browse Heroic versions of dungeon loot anymore (since December I think). You STILL can't browse any of the Cataclysm dungeon loot. And Mastery doesn't show up on a lot of gear on the armory.
But, hey, now you can ask your guildies what drops from a dungeon...

This isn't the Armory app.

If the app ever comes for the iPad I just might pick the extra cost up. But as others say, the current cost for the game is quite enough.
mrmojoz Apr 7th 2011 10:18AM
You can't just use the phone version?
BAHill Apr 7th 2011 10:40AM
When is Blizzard going to create an official armory app for the Windows 7 Phone platform? An official Authenticator app?
bigsweade Apr 7th 2011 11:58AM
The iphone app works on the ipad aswell, but it wont use the bigger screen size. Why not make an app that works on the ipad aswell as other iOS devices?

Pff. I was supposed to answer mrmojoz reply... fail. :p
