I disagree with your argument that it is not worth doing simply because it will take a lot of time investment. Transmute cooldowns will print money for the rest of World of Warcraft's longevity, so the only effect the initial investment has on this decision is in determining how long it will be until this decision is profitable. The character does not have to be leveled to 85 either, only 75 for max level alchemy, which is a significantly less time investment since the 1-80 BoA gear will reduce the time invested over the whole training period.

I completely agree. I like a mix of 3 alchemists, one of each specialization, and if you are going to grind gold at max level, having 7 more xmute alchemists is a great way to go. There is almost always something worth transmuting for a significant profit, and everyone who doubts that blizzard will add epic gems is crazy. Including basil. I would say in that unlikely scenario, transmute alchemists will still be printing gold with their daily transmutes for whatever volatiles are most needed.
