Patch 4.1: New Wailing Caverns layout unveiled

With today's PTR patch, Wailing Caverns has been given a new map to reflect the changes. The entire maze-like structure on the eastern side of the instance has been removed -- completely scooped out, with the bosses therein relocated in the dungeon. This will eliminate a lot of needless back-and-forth through the instance, as well as the infamous leap in the maze that caused the demise of countless PUGs. You know what I'm talking about: The tank misses the jump, immediately gets lost, other members of the party jump down to help and then they get lost ... and then your party is no more.

Thank you for mentioning this. I thought I was the only one seeing it when it wasn't mentioned in the first comments.

Wailing Caverns will always be a place of fondness for me, up there with Dire Maul. On my first character, a Night Elf Druid, way back in vanilla I worked so hard on getting the full Fang set. It took effort. Lots of effort. The travel time and risk of horde attack made it so hard to convince groups to go with me. But when I finally finished that set I was so happy.
Also, Druid lore dungeons are few and far between, plus I had a Tauren quest giver (carebear omg)!
And on my paladin, whatshisface the everliving was the first boss to make me scared as a tank as he seemed to hit like a truck strapped to a mountain on steroids.

For some reason, this doesn't seem just a normal streamlining thing. Yes, the WC maze was obnoxious.
But, I'm remember at the BlizzCon where they announced Cataclysm, there would be a bunch of old instances updated and made into Heroic, including WC. With all that is happening in Hyjal in 4.2, that big fiery crag splitting the Barrens in half, and all that druid nonsense leading areas in the Barrens to be wild and overgrown, could we get a H-WC as an part of Cataclysm story-progression? Even as a thing involving the Emerald Dream?

Wow how much hand holding does blizzard thinks we need? Quests are so streamlined we can't go off the beaten path, dungeon quests are handed to us at the entrance and now the dungeon itself has been neutered. Why don't they just leave a lit path to follow... wait they already did that for me in ashenvale. Ok then might as well make maraudon a straight line while they are at it and dire maul a spiral down cause we'll need the challenge by then. And let's not forget to make end content uber tough cause we are ready for that challenge thanks to the path we followed.

I don't think raiders are having trouble now because they're not used to labyrinthine layouts or travelling to picking up quests.

In order to make it even simpler, they should just install a conveyor belt. Or I know, just change it to a big round room and have the bosses enter in order! Nah, Blizzard would never make an instance that retardedly simple, would they?

Yay! I was just in there last night on my 18 goblin priest and yes, our tank missed the leap! I waited with the hunter and DPS warrior for about 5 minutes while the tank and Mage found their way back. Was a good time to listen to all the goblin voice emotes.

Holy phallic maps.

Its funny. As you watch the growth of world of warcraft, you watch as things get dumbed down. Its almost like watching the human race get more and more stupid.
All this is doing is promoting laziness. Having to memorize a map was a right of passage. It felt good knowing your way around. I'll shut up with my grandpa stories, but damnit all to hell.

Looks rather... phallic?
