Firstly, wonderful article Mr. Caraway.
Secondly, my experiences...
I have been back and forth between all three specs since I started raiding in WotLK. I played destrustion through ToC and ToGC, and then switched to Affliction during the great destruction nerf of 3.3. I played affliction for quite a while during ICC until Conflagrate was buffed again, and even then I switched back and forth depending on the encounter. Finally, on the LK fight, my RL had me go Demo to provide Demonic Pact, and that is the spec I downed the LK in.
Your points about affliction ring incredibly true. It, to me, is both a fun and stressful spec to play. It requires incredible raid awareness, because the concentration it takes to multi-DoT effectively (and I mean keeping Shadow Embrace on both/all targets) is tremendous. That said, I will be going back to affliction come 4.1, at least until I figure out whether I can still play it =X
