My old guild had a leader elected who DID NOT WANT to lead, and it lead to a negative change in overall guild atmosphere, until, venting problems from his personal life I'm pretty sure, he used passive-aggressive means to tear up guild friendships, then quit the game. It left the guild in a very bad place, and very fractured. I had to quit shortly thereafter for RL reasons, but I don't think it ever recovered.
