I just have to weight in on this. Tanking and healing (I've done plenty of healing and just a little of tanking) have always felt far more challenging and carried far more responsibility then dpsing.
I have this funny picture in my head of a group of characters taking down a big boss. During the fight the tank is getting whaled on and on, getting hit almost to death while a healer was getting a hernia worrying about what would happen to him if that guy died, casting all the heals his trade allowed, running out of breath and mana hoping for the best. While this two poor souls went through this nightmerish situation there were a rogue, mage and warlock bousting about how awesome they were and posting dps meters on top of each other, each posting a different meter in which they individually were #1 (all in perfectly relaxed, cool and fresh outfits).
Tanking and healing has always been and tougher more responsible part of the game and it seems like Blizzard just found out that a lot of people who log in to PLAY a GAME want as little of those two things as they can.
