Allison, great read, and I believe you share thoughts with the majority of people that tanked BC heroics on a regular basis. I know it hit home perfectly for me.I started playing in BC and tanking a couple specific heroics was the ultimate tanking test imo. Raids were more complicated than heroics on a fight mechanic level. When tanking though, your job was usually very straightforward. Raids had (and still have) a specific set of mechanics that needed to be memorized and accounted for, and rarely were there any surprises.BC Heroics on the other hand still had much of the element of surprise. People would get feared into add groups and, if you wanted to survive, people had to react quickly to CC, pop cooldowns, kite some mobs, etc. I don't feel current heroics have gone back to that level of difficulty from the tanking perspective however. Tanking a heroic, when everything is going well, is easier than it ever has been and that's actually a part of the reason I avoid the RDF if possible. Gearing for heroics is easy because that gear is more accessible and there are no hard caps on your stats that are necessary to your survival. AoE threat is a thousand times easier than it used to be (for us bear tanks, at least). Tanking cooldowns have been mostly standardized and balanced against specific boss/mob mechanics to where you really only have to rely on your own cooldowns (again, assuming everything is going as planned). All the tanks are pretty well balanced right now, you don't have a situation where one tank is so heavily favored like paladins were in BC heroic tanking. To be a feral druid tanking heroics in BC, if you wanted any amount of success, you had to be damn good And that brings me to my problem with RDF. There's very little i can do to make the dungeon go smoother. The majority of the responsibility of making a smooth run has shifted away from the tank in terms of player skill. Dps'ers are now more responsible for their own survival than any time since vanilla. Add onto that that many specs/rotations changed pretty drastically. Healing went through an even more drastic change by turning the entire healing paradigm upside down. When a dungeon wiped in a BC heroic, in my experience it was usually something i did as the tank. I knew if i did something better, be it gear, skill, awareness, etc i would have more success in my future dungeons. Maybe I'm alone in this, but tanking in and of it self is so dang easy now that its very frustrating when you get a fail group because there's little you can do to adjust your play style to make things better, and NOTHING you can do to make sure the next one goes smoother. Also, if wiping in a BC heroic wasn't my fault, there was incentive to help the other players succeed beyond just completing that one dungeon. Maybe you run into them again spamming trade chat. Maybe a friend of yours does. At the bare minimum you at least wanted to be kind to your group members because word could easily make it back to your guild, or around the server what an intolerant a-hole you are. The RDF has killed that completely. Why would i put myself through the RDF for 0 reward in return? Now, the only thing you get for going totally random is a stat buff. That's there to make them at least tolerable, but no where near enough for me to chose it over my friends. I think blizzard is on the right track with rewarding tanks for that added layer of frustration, but I'm not sure some cash, pets, and possibly a mount is enough for me. All this will do is attract brand new tanks to the dungeon finder. People will start tanking not because they're good at it, or not because they have the burning desire to tank, and not because they are curious how tanking works, but because they need 10 more mounts for their mount achievement. I see this doing very little to entice geared, skilled, or interested tanks back into the RDF. All it does in its current state is provide a reward that only collectors will value and, depending on how much cash you get when this goes live, your repair bill may be covered. I've returned to the old style trade chat spam. I don't charge anyone for runs, in fact I'll usually look for people buying runs and invite them no charge. I may ask for ilvl, but its only to make sure its above the minimum. They also need to have enough of a brain to read plain English, and respond in kind. Usually ill ask in guild, then ask in trade, then RDF whats left (if any). I like the accountability that brings. I remember people who stink and are beyond any assistance i can provide in a single heroic, but I'm willing and enjoy helping those interested in getting better. Ignore still works for the a-hole "gogogogogo NO CC RAWR" people. I can sometimes find good prospective guild members, or at least make the occasional friend. Also, it really doesn't take much longer to do this. The extra 1-5min i spend looking for people before queueing is minuscule compared to the wipes and frustration a bad random can bring. I can also consider class balance and bring the necessary level of CC for how geared my healer is. So to answer the question that is actually supposed to be for next week at a personal level, I'm fairly certain the only thing that would entice me into actually using the Call to Arms system is the addition of extra valor points. Valor points are the only reason i run heroics on my main character now anyways, and i cant be the only one in the same situation!TLDR version... Blizzard is not trying to get tanks run more heroics. They're trying to get tanks to run heroics with random people instead of friends and guildmates. Its gonna take more than a pony or a little squirrel with some gold to do that for me.
