The Daily Quest: Against insurmountable odds

Whether it's going up against a heroic boss, accidentally-on-purpose pulling an entire room of mobs, stockpiling massive amounts of gold, or just trying to get that one ore node that keeps phasing out, World of Warcraft is full of potential struggle and strife. Whether or not that strife is insurmountable is up for negotiation. I'm talking to you, pesky ore node.
Today, we've got a collection of posts from around the blogosphere regarding the woes and troubles of players and potential ways to overcome them.
- Brunnstag's Menagerie ponders the problems of dead cities and whether there's a solution to them.
- Jaded Alt has some handy tips for new players looking to gather wealth beyond their wildest dreams.
- Grimmtooth's Troops discusses the issues with those pesky nodes, be they of the ore or flowery variety.

If the problem with dead cities began with the removal of portals, why not reintroduce portals to correct this? I've thought about this, and I think that introducing a portal "network" could work nicely. This network would consist of each capital city having one OUTGOING portal that would send the player to another SPECIFIC capital city. Near that OUTGOING portal would also be an INCOMING portal through which travelers would enter the city. This location in each city could potentially bustle with activity as travelers passed through the portal terminal even if briefly (this would be a great place to add additional race quartermasters too, if I might add).
Allow an example. I'm in city A, but I want to get to city C. I take the one and only outgoing portal from city A to B, then in city B, I take the one and only outgoing portal to city C. Once in city C, I can do whatever it is I came to do. The one and only outgoing portal in city C would lead to city D, and the outgoing portal in D would lead back to A.
Granted, there may be technical issues with players quickly moving from one zone to another in rapid succession, but this would prevent any one city from becoming the laggy "portal hub" and allow players more flexibility in setting their hearthstones as they would be only a few portal hops from the faction's capital city.
Low level characters could be restricted from using the portal network if that were an issue, and players could be required to purchase a portal ticket in a similar fashion as they purchase the license for old world flying.
My 2 cents, please keep the change.

Simple solution SW (ORG for Horde) has level 85 restricted portals to all faction specific cities.
City ported to be it Darnassus IF etc only have a portal back to SW.
Keeping it 85 only will keep the rest of the world as is for the majority which I gather is the main reason shatrath and dalaran portals were removed.
This will allow people to "hang out" where they want to.
Implementation would just require a area in sw to hub from some where near far from current portal hub for cata areas.

(apparently it deletes things in greater than and less than signs, must be some htlm or bbs code I am unaware of)
But the guild tag there is: Insurmountable Odds

Oh, didn't think it'd render that
Use '& lt;' with no space.

Just add portals to Cata zones to all major cities.
CraftyWarden Apr 14th 2011 5:16AM
no need to do it to all cities when sw is already made to deal with it just a simple portal from sw to if,darn, exodar, etc, and a return one to sw itself then you just hotfoot it over to the cata ones in sw.
There is already portals to the BC content from each major city, boats to northrend, so the simple addition of a SW portal from those cities would still give access to cata portals and still keep the large feeling until 85.
Making a level 85 go through the laborious journey on foot or flying each time they want to get to somewhere theyve spent alot of time in on the way to 85 in some form seems somewhat pointless.
If blizz didnt want to add a hub from sw / org to all the alliance or horde cities all they need to do is just add ports to sw from major cities, that way you could say keep your hearth where ever you wanted to and grab a portal to sw/org to use cata portals as needed.

Once, while drunk, I decided it would be a fantastic idea to go for Insane in the Membrane. I didn't get my Shen'dralar reputation anywhere near high enough before Blizzard removed that particular faction, but Drunk Me's an ass for destroying my Steamwheedle Cartel reputation.
Recently, he almost convinced me to destroy it again when Blizzard fix the Bruisers. I refuse to listen to him again.
The last time I listened to him, I ended up in Warsong Gulch trying desperately to distract the few other humans playing on Alliance to go for the flag instead of the Honour.

I found out that even in heroic Sethekk Halls, where things are 15 levels below me, I can't aggro the entire instance solo. Stupid mind controllers...
As well, I know that there was a specific Daily Quest post about Call to Arms stuff, but here's my late entry.

Enjoy!

Everyone's frustration with the lack of portals will soon self correct. Guilds are starting hit Guild level 21+. Once it becomes common, players will be able to pst players in other cities (/who Shat'rath) and ask for a summon via "Have Group, Will Travel." And as a final irony it won't be restricted to your own faction's cities.
