The Queue: American Old Gods

The time to strike at the head of the beast will soon be upon us! Focus your anger and hatred on his minions! Wait, no, don't, because they're making American Gods into a TV show on HBO. Is there no end in sight for awesome genre TV? I sure hope not.
Yous95 asked:
I was reading Wow Archivist about Patch 0.10, where it mentioned, among all the other changes, that dwarf mages were removed from the game. It got me wondering: If people had leveled a dwarf mage during the time, and then patch 0.10 hit, what happened to their characters? Were they just deleted and had the people lost all the time and effort they put in? Did it automatically switch class/race? Also, do you think Blizzard would be able to suddenly remove a race-class combo without serious repercussions at this stage in the game?
Well, there's a very simple answer for this one. Patch 0.10 was a pre-release patch, patched in during WoW's beta testing phase. Like most beta tests, characters leveled were wiped forever when the retail game went live.
For strictly the beta, though, you could continue to play your dwarf mage even after the race/class option was removed. You just couldn't make a new one. According to comments on the Archivist post, dwarf mages were eventually race-changed to gnomes near the end of the beta.
Scooter asked:
Some time ago before cataclysm hit WoW Insider released a number of details on racial models and soundbites from the game. Among them were several from what I believe to be Archbishop Benedictus of Stormwind. From the sound of them there was to be a major event at the chapel with some big reveal as part of the opening to Cataclysm, but it never happened. What's the scoop on this...is it scrapped, will it happen, or have I just spent a little too much time near all the talking Northrend ore?
Much like the original Alliance intro the Twilight Highlands, this content was flat-out removed. Benedictus was changed to an unnamed bishop, and Wrynn's dialogue about Benedictus' betrayal was removed. It's safe to say that that ship has sailed and we won't be seeing that content again.
Honestly, it's probably for the best. Leave the in-faction political intrigue for the Horde in this expansion. The Alliance already has precious few uncorrupted good guys.
Alrendar asked:
Is there ever going to be a way to send Justice Points/Valor Points etc etc from one character to another?
While Blizzard has made leveling and gearing alts significantly easier in recent years, it's still pretty unlikely that we'll be able to send what amounts to endgame currency from one character to another. Essentially, by making it so only one of your characters has to be the endgame content workhorse, they would be encouraging you not to raid or do heroics on your other characters, or at least do both of those much less. What we need right now is not for fewer people to be in dungeon queues, that's for damn sure.
I don't see it happening in the near future.
Holycow asked:
Yesterday, my girlfriend was driving home in our car, which sports a large Horde symbol on the back window. Some guy cuts her off, then pulls into the lane next to her and flips her the bird, and yells "F***ing Horde!" then cuts her off again.
Now, I, if I were to encounter a car with a blue lion on it, would be glad to run into another wow player. Screw faction choice, it's mainly cosmetic.
Anyone else had any weird faction-biased encounters with other wow players out in the real world?
I was in a friend's car one time and we got pulled over right near my house. The cop was ready to tow my friend's car away due to outdated documentation, but he ended up just following us back to my house in the cruiser and not towing the car or issuing a ticket. Why? Because he saw the big Horde sticker on the back of her car. He asked us if we played. When I told him I used to work for Blizzard, we got into a long conversation about the game, he told me about all the Horde characters he had (his main was an undead warlock -- "no blood elves, man!!"), and I guess he felt some kind of faction camaraderie and gave us a break.
Little did he know that I main Alliance. You'll never catch me alive, copper!

Wasn't Benedictus' betrayal replaced with the thing where Anduin exposes the guy in the throne room before you can go out to Twilight Highlands?
HellfireGamer Apr 15th 2011 11:08AM
I believe so
dirac Apr 15th 2011 11:20AM
Yes, but... well, it was okay, but not really _epic_. Not anything like the scale of the Horde intro to Twilight Highlands.
Ves Apr 15th 2011 11:21AM
The Alliance event was removed to keep the faction balance because the Horde counterpart gave Lor'themar something do do, so had to be removed for obvious reason.
clundgren Apr 15th 2011 11:48AM
Lor' thewho? Wait...is he the guy who hangs around the Belf capitol with a clipboard?
It's like they made Michael Scott a faction leader.
Shinae Apr 15th 2011 11:51AM
It's disappointing that these epic betrayals didn't come to be in Cata. Instead of the Archbishop of Stormwind and Lor'themar's advisor Rommath (sp) defecting to the Twilight Cult, we get characters that we've never heard of before, so it doesn't mean as much when they turn out to be Twilight spies.
Kira Apr 15th 2011 11:58AM
Actually, at least hordeside, you probably had met sauranok (sp?) before, hes in Warsong Hold in Borena Tundra.
deepred Apr 15th 2011 6:32PM
And in fact, Samuelson was around at the very start, having been involved in a minor quest chain from Hillsbrad.

I know we are only a little bit into Cataclysm but what other big bad guys could they incorporate into future expansions?
We have killed all the obvious ones, do you think that they will make up a new bad guy or develop the story line of one already in-game to be on par with Deathy and Arthas?
Debesun Apr 15th 2011 11:19AM
Well, we still have the whole Burning Legion thing going on.
Nina Katarina Apr 15th 2011 11:22AM
Sargeras.
Azshara.
The titans.
We only killed the manifestations of the Old Gods, not the Old Gods themselves.
Whatever is behind the Nerubians.
There's plenty of big bosses left.
fallemwarrior Apr 15th 2011 11:23AM
They do have quite a few options for this, heres some i think are possible
A titan watcher who is angry about us destroying the re origination machine
Blizz could jus create a new character outa thing air (becuase htat hasnt happened before)
A possible Old god (N'soth Nsoth Nzoth err somthing like that could be the diety of ears O.o)
We could see a continuation in the Neptulion Encounters in Vashj'ir
Queen Ashara is a definite possibilty
a stretch might be think a possible Quiraj escursion
The possibilities are endless
Another theory is a possible Emerald dream themed place to hint at things to come.
BTW Todays word is Escursion try to use it atleast once today :)
Blackdemon Apr 15th 2011 11:24AM
Is Azshara still around? She would seem a likely target to me if so. Also, there could be more old gods, maybe a leader of them? Just a few thoughts.
I guess Sargeras will be held off for a bit longer, as he is the obvious choice for a final expansion.
Darky Apr 15th 2011 11:24AM
The obvious answer would be sargeras, but we're almost certain he would be the last big bad, azshara is likely to be next expac, but we will never know for sure until wowinsider or mmochamp leak something.
Theres also who/whatever corrupted the emerald dream (but probably not next expac because the emerald dream was quieted through the book before the cataclysm one (I forget exactly their names).
Perhaps even Illidan again but not very likely, though he may come back in some form, but i doubt as a big baddy.
jrussellp.moose Apr 15th 2011 11:25AM
Azshara, Xavius in the Emerald Nightmare (wasn't completely removed in th Stormrage novel),. We still don't know for sure wtf is going on with the bronze/infinite dragonflights (lots of theories, no verification from blizzard), so we will likely fight whoever's behind it at somepoint (whether that's Nozdormu or someone else). Magatha Grimtotem is still at large, and must be stabbed by the swords of at least 10 people. Kil'jaeden is still alive (we pushed him out of our world, we didn't kill him) along with the rest of th Burning Legion. Sargeras will show up at some point as well. More Old Gods, etc....they have plenty to work with. :)
fallemwarrior Apr 15th 2011 11:29AM
@Blackdemon
If you go to an island just off the coast of darkshore you will find some naga channeling magic into the horn of the ancients, if u kill then Ashara appears and Malfurion confronts her
Eldoron Apr 15th 2011 11:33AM
We didn't kill the Old Gods, nor the "manifestations" of the Old Gods. We just gave them a good beat. They are unkillable.
thegr81mikal Apr 15th 2011 1:07PM
We also have the Infinite Dragonflight story line to play out with the Time Warden
Grovinofdarkhour Apr 15th 2011 11:40AM
Sargeras (biggest badass - save for the final expansion)
yet-to-be-named Old Gods, or tentacles thereof
Magatha Grimtotem (likely sooner than later)
Fandral Staghelm (likely sooner than later)
Queen Azshara
we never finished off Mal'Ganis, did we?
Milhouse Manastorm
come to think of it, we didn't actually kill Kil'Jaeden either, did we?
eventually... Sylvanas. You know it's true
fallemwarrior Apr 15th 2011 11:41AM
@Eldoron
They arn't unkillable, it would just be a very very very very very very bad idea,
The old gods are linked to the world and its inhabitants Via the Curse of Flesh
IF they die so do we
