Breakfast Topic: What's the best WoW-themed gift you've given or received?
This Breakfast Topic has been brought to you by Seed, the AOL guest writer program that brings your words to WoW Insider's pages.
Several of us in my family play World of Warcraft. On birthdays and holidays, it's never a surprise. What could possibly be in that lightweight, rectangular-shaped package? Why, it's a time card! Huzzah! It's become somewhat of a joke at this point, as we trade time cards back and forth. I'm not sure who's ahead at this point.
Occasionally we step it up a bit, and somebody gets a hoodie or a T-shirt (and thank goodness I haven't received any underwear yet). We've bequeathed Celestial Steeds and Lil' K.T.s to each other. One year, I got pretty creative (for me) and made a "treasure chest" for my brother. I included a time card (big surprise), beef jerky, Mana Potion energy drink and some cash. He tells me that he still has the chest and now uses it as a bank to store spare change in.
Do you pass around WoW-themed presents in your family? Have you received any particularly memorable ones over the years? Have you given any that left you feeling strangely satisfied with yourself? Where do you find the best gifts? Do you scour the online stores and Blizzard's website, or do you have a creative streak and make them yourself?

When my best friend was unemployed and running low on funds, I sent her a time card, 'cause playing the game with her is a hell of a lot more important to me than the money. ^_^ I also bought moonkin pets for both of us, but that was more for charity.

Forgot to mention: mana potion energy drinks are scary things. @_@ The friends I do tabletop RPGs with gave me one as a joke, for a prop while I was DMing. I ended up drinking it to help with a scene I was writing, and damn, it felt like someone hotwired my brain. One of those friends called me in the middle of writing that scene, and I was talking crazy fast and all that. Don't think I'll ever take one again.

Described like that, I need a mana crackpotion :P

Blizzcon. Given and recieved. Nothing else beats that so far.
Imi Apr 18th 2011 8:37AM
Yep I agree... Blizzcon trumped any other WoW themed gifts I've gotten!

I just recently received my one and only WoW-themed gift, and I'm incredibly happy with it, even though I don't get to use it just yet!
My boyfriend (who used to play WoW but gave it up a long time ago) has often expressed interest in giving me a WoW-themed gift, but the problem is I'm not interested in much of their merchandise, and the few things I *did* want, I was impatient and bought for myself before he ever knew I wanted them (the Wind Rider plushie and the Boomkin hatchling).
Well, I didn't know he was paying attention at the time, but he overheard me gushing on Vent with my guildies about the Winged Guardian when it was first announced. So without my knowledge he looked it up and determined that it wouldn't be available before April 1st (which is our anniversary), so on the 1st he presented me with a cute little handmade card that is a voucher for the Winged Guardian!
So while I obviously don't have the mount yet, I have a card that I am to present to my boyfriend the moment it is released to the public and he will buy it for me! I thought it was an incredibly sweet gesture and, while I was planning to buy it for myself, I now don't have to spend the money and can finally say I have a really neat WoW-themed gift very soon! ^_^

What a fantastic idea! I think I might just pinch this idea for my girlfriends 21st this Sunday! Awesome!!!

Shouldn't your treasure chest have included some level 15 cheese?
Don't tell anyone, but I'm knitting baby murlocs for some of our guildies who are having babies soon. It's a surprise!
Mortenebra Apr 18th 2011 9:30AM
That's so awesome!! A guildmate of mine and my husband's gave us a baby blanket embroidered with the Horde symbol and "For the Horde! Resto shaman in training" in one corner when he found out we were having a baby girl.
There's something about WoW-themed baby presents that are equal parts endearing and, for a lack of better term, badass.

Every good treasure chest has to have cheese. Cheese, ore, and herbs are the treasure chest trifecta.

Augh, I want to join your guild and I guess be pregnant, lol.
They sound waaaaay too adorable.
Please to submit to WarCrafts so we can all see c:

Alas, nobody in my family plays WoW and most of my friends get that peculiar blank stare when I start talking about raids and such.
But, a while ago I was low on cash due to my then-employer going bankrupt and in the months of frantically looking for a job, a lovely friend gave me some free WoW play time. I really appreciated it - I'm not the kind of person to expect freebies and it brought home what "a friend in need" is all about!

This one is easy:
Having my avatar in REAL 3D ...through figureprints.
Everyone should have his/her main in real 3D and put it in the living room.
Think about it: I amost played 250 days of my real life with this avatar and I have him now in the real world.
Dressed up in Vengeful Gladiator Tier that I keep in the bank ...
Andre Apr 18th 2011 8:26AM
Can you take a picture of that? It sounds awesome ^_^
loop_not_defined Apr 18th 2011 9:53AM
Wow, going to have to remember this one.

I got an Orgrimmar coffee mug from my mom for Christmas, and I use it every day.

I recently got a character figure print. Of course we live in Italy and so it took two months to get here, but it was still a very good gift. It sits in its glass case on the desk next to me when I play.
