WoW mobile guild chat released, free for a limited time

A new feature has just been added to the World of Warcraft Mobile Armory app: remote Guild Chat! As part of the latest update for the free Mobile Armory app for the iPhone and iPod touch, the new Guild Chat feature lets you stay in touch with your guildmates wherever you go:
- Read and contribute to your guild's in-game chat channel in real time
- Participate in one-on-one conversations with members of your guild
- View the members of your guild who are currently online
For a limited time, players can use the Guild Chat feature without a subscription to World of Warcraft Remote. During this time, we'll be rolling out the Guild Chat feature to select realms, with more realms being added in the future -- check out the list below to see if the feature is currently available on your realm. After the free preview period ends, players will need to have a subscription to World of Warcraft Remote in order to continue using the feature. We'll announce the end of the free preview period, along with the availability of the feature on Android devices, in the near future -- keep an eye on the official World of Warcraft website for further details.

Free guild chat feature? I'm definitely going to give it a shot now. Free is the best price.

There's a HUGE issue with this.
"The World of Warcraft Mobile Armory app is available as a free download from the App Store for iPhone and iPod touch."
I don't see the word Android in that, and they're referring to the Mobile ARMORY app which android platforms do not have yet. Thanks blizz. You're a real tease.

I'm using the mobile armory app on my Android.

Oooo your comment makes me so maaaa.... Wait... You be Trolling me.
There is the Droid Armory app made by the creator of the addon Talented, but blizzard hasn't released their Armory app for Android which would have this new feature.
In the words of the great Frostheim I challenge you with this:

My bad, I wasn't trolling, just reading comprehension challenged-I was thinking of the AH app as i was using it when I started reading this. Old age is a painful thing sometimes :P My bad

Being an Android user I would think you were used to disappointment.
Malozing Apr 18th 2011 11:50PM
I agree with you there. I really like my Android phone, and I would like Blizzard to realize not all of the customers are using Apple products. Yes they are great, but not everyone is the same
Foxfyr Apr 19th 2011 1:24AM
If you don't think the smartphone of choice for the majority of WoW players is an iPhone... Well then you're more narrow minded than you think Blizzard is.
MazokuRanma Apr 19th 2011 1:49AM
@Foxfyr
I just did a quick survey of my guild to see what kind of smart phones people have. Out of about 75 members online, I only had 9 iPhones and I had 28 Droids (The rest was a mix of not responding, non-smartphones, and a few BlackBerry phones). I personally use a Droid, and of the 10 people I know IRL that play WoW and have smartphones, only 2 use iPhones, while the rest is 7 Droids and 1 BlackBerry. This is obviously only anecdotal, but it certainly seems like they're missing a pretty big market here.

@Foxfyr
The Android OS has more users than iOS, so it's a safe assumption that most people playing WoW that use a smartphone are using a phone that utilizes Android.
SumDuud Apr 19th 2011 7:30AM
So get a real phone. :) lol
wutsconflag Apr 19th 2011 12:52PM
Considering the socio-economic differences between the average iOS user and the average Android user, I'd have to agree. It makes sense to cater to the broadest audience (and isn't that what Blizzard is doing with WoW? *cough* Wrath *cough*).

Actually, the remote guild chat-feature is coming to Android phones as well, via the World of Warcraft Remote-App currently in the Android Market. They even mention it on the Blizzard site: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/services/wow-remote/ - Now available on iPhone, iPod touch, and coming soon on Android
Research first, post later!
RoseTyler Apr 19th 2011 7:10PM
Apparently this app was pulled from the Android Market. I just saw it last week and people were being irritable because they couldn't log in with it yet.. which led me to look up and locate the official pre announcement Blizz made about the entire thing in the first place.
The app was there on the Android Market, and now it's not.
Charon Apr 18th 2011 8:11PM
Available on... two realms? Why launch it with two realms?
theRaptor Apr 18th 2011 8:44PM
It is called "testing".
I don't see why they need to do that though, as WoW players are normally so forgiving of bugs in newly released content.

... When are they going to add the rest of the normal Armory functions to the Android edition? Mind you other devs have stepped in and put out good Armory apps, even with dungeon maps, bosses (in 3D!) and drops. While I would love to have guild chat, their dev on the Android platform has sorely fallen behind.
Ailuvan Apr 19th 2011 10:12AM
Droid Armory is not a Blizzard app.
K Whitt Apr 20th 2011 3:55PM
I know that Droid Armory is not a Blizzard app. It uses similar API. Did you not read my comment? I said _OTHER DEVS_ have stepped in. Other Developers. Not Blizzard. Please before you complain, try making a saving roll at reading comprehension.

"along with the availability of the feature on Android devices, in the near future"
aww, I got excited
Ted Apr 18th 2011 8:16PM
Can you update the post to indicate that this functionality is not available for Android right now? You got me all excited.
