The Queue: The origin of Ghostcrawler

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then this picture tells the story of the origin of Ghostcrawler. Shamelessly found via a thread on Reddit.
Hal asked:
Do you think we'll ever see another questline like the Scepter of the Shifting Sands? Or has the design philosophy moved past such things?
Doubtful. That quest line was very epic, yes, but it also wouldn't fit well in to today's paradigm of accessible content, war between the factions, and the "everyone has a chance" mentality. I think a more likely thing to happen would be another item/quest chain like the Battered Hilt.
Mrespman asked:
Are there any new patterns for tradeskills in 4.1? i.e. new blacksmithing or tailoring patterns? Or do I have to keep stockpiling orbs for my tailor with nothing to use them on but the dress?
No new patterns (that I know of) in patch 4.1. Of course, someone prove me wrong now ... As for your orbs, just keep stockpiling them and selling your created dress. Make some gold, be happy for what it is, and have some cake.
Supracom asked:
Did you just call Magni a buffoon? Can you do that??!
Magni's a buffoon.
Condor asked:
I know there's no new Tier gear in 4.1, am I safe to assume my Valor Points won't all shift down into Justice Points?
That's correct. Valor points will not become justice points in patch 4.1.

I have a question for The Queue: Did I miss an update on where is/are the new Warlock demon(s)?
I want my Beholder. As awesome as it is to summon my whale-turd of an Imp or sassy Succubus as my DPS pet of choice, wouldn't it make sense to have a demon that spews acid and shoots frickin' lasers from its eyes? Heck, I'd take a Mo'arg as my own personal engineer. He can make turrets ala Team Fortress. Or maybe a Shivarra? My Succubus has been giving me lip lately anyway.
I just don't get how Warlocks are promised demons and instead get more promises, and for opposite gender demons no less? I don't care which genitalia my demon has so long as it is able to sow pain and terror in the hearts of my enemies!
And while I'm at it, how is it okay that Hunters gain access to Felhounds and Felboars, yet Warlocks get bupkis? Oh, my main is a Hunter, but if it's Fel it belongs to Warlocks. If Hunters can summon a Demon Dog, at the very least Warlocks should be able to enslave their pets just as Hunters can Scarre Beast.
Damn it, Ghostcrawler, you promised me a demon!

Your tears add just enough salt to make my mana strudel delicious. Thank you.

From the quoted article:
"While it's not a direct confirmation that warlocks will be getting a new pet in Cataclysm..."

Yeah, with all the great variety of demon creatures that Blizzard has put into the game, it's too bad that warlocks are as limited in their choice of minion as they are. Hell, even if they don't include the demons you mentioned—and it would be so awesome if those *were* available—it would be nice if we could at least have some variety in the artwork of the demons we do have. Armored voidwalkers or green doomguards like the ones in Hellfire Peninsula, for example.
We'll see how the updates you linked turn out, though. I'm sure it'll be an improvement still.

Isn't a succubus giving you lip a good thing?

Gasp!
Don't ever, EVER let Wizards of the Coast (WotC) catch you using the 'big B'. It's for your own safety, really....
Okay, but in all seriousness, though, for the rest of your comment: Blizzard tries to word almost *anything* so that it is open for discussion, but also so that they can reply 'well, technically we didn't give absolute confirmation on such-and-such...'.
This is so that when they DO commit themselves to saying something definite, the amount of back-tracking isn't nearly so great when they change their minds or a community manager accidently misinterprets what they were informed of being allowed to post on.
Also, (insert obligatory statement about mage superiority and warlock shortcomings here). Sorry, it was necessary even though I believe they're equal. What's life without a friendly rivalry?

Wouldn't it be nice if warlocks could enslave 'demon' type mobs, similarly to how hunters tame 'beast' type mobs? Has this idea ever been addressed by Blizzard?
It would make sense to me that the 2 pet classes should function on equal ground. I'd like to see warlock pets have their own families, skins, and talent trees. There's always the fear that the warlock would be the fel clone of a hunter, but I'm sure that there are ways to mitigate that consequence.
Any thoughts on if this is a good or bad idea?

I'd be happy if I could change my demon's names, and use drain life on them (which could kill them).
SINisterWyvern Apr 19th 2011 5:12PM
So you're pissed about a "possibility"? Just saying, I'm a warlock, but tell me what role a new warlock pet would fit into...
I'll wait..
None. That's right. We didn't get a new pet but our pets are loads better than they were. Especially Doomguard and Infernal.
There was no promise, there never is a promise. While it would have been nice, it wasn't necessary.
Kurash Apr 19th 2011 10:28PM
@SinisterWyvern
Why would new pets need to fill new roles? They could fit into the same categories as current pets, the same way that hunters have many different types of tenacity/cunning/ferocity pets. The OP's idea of a beholder, for example, could maybe fill the same role as an imp: ranged dps (for destruction), perhaps. And what I was referring to was simply reskinning the current pets to make them look more interesting.
More options is just a fun idea to think about.

The ideas for making warlocks more like hunters are a bit weird to me. Hunters are supposed to be more "one with nature" and have a more companionship with their pets (don't ask about undead hunters >.>). Warlocks are all about dominating and enslaving. They summon their minions from the Twisting Nether; they don't find them roaming around in Elwynn Forest and say, "Hey, that's a pretty sweet-looking bear. Hey bear, want to be my friend?"
With the amount of demons we have, its already a given that one will be marginalized, depending on what Blizzard feels like doing that expansion. In Cata for PvE, imp (destro), Fel Guard (AoE demo), VW (situational soloing or PvP), and Succy (single-target demo and afflic) are the best options. Felhound is a situational PvP minion that has been nerfed due to Succy's glyph. However, it was Succy that was worthless is Wrath and TBC (mostly). Additionally, in Cata they made Inferal and Doomguard powerful cooldowns instead of novelty summons.
With all that, the last thing we need is another demon to muddy the waters even further. I like that the minions have their specialty and that one is best for a certain job. What role would another demon fulfill? Healer? That's just craziness. However, a Shivarra healer minion would be pretty sick :). The only other role I could see another minion fill would be another ranged, shadow caster (dots or nukes).
Everyone loves variety, myself included, but having additional summoning/enslaving demon options would make warlocks hunters with spells. I do not think that adding demons would do anything but give us different options for how the minions look and unnecessarily complicate the choice of which one to use in a certain situation.

I wouldn't have it on every server, but an incubus would definitely feel more natural when I'm on Proudmoore. Unless he was a clone of Mr. Slave. That's too much :)

This picture should- nay, must- be included after every Ghostcrawler post. So everyone is repeatedly reminded how he got where he did.
...Through a battle to the death with the lobsters he bought from the supermarket for his yacht beach party.
Knob Apr 19th 2011 11:21AM
It would have added more flavour if he was actually wielding a bat instead of a club though.
Oh and Adam, please change the "than" in the quote about the picture to "then".....it's haunting me. :(

So is this a picture of GC nerfing the Paladins?

First he fought the crabs...then he became one.
Ace Apr 19th 2011 11:40AM
GC's fight = the inspiration for King's lobstrosities in the Dark Tower series?
fallemwarrior Apr 19th 2011 11:46AM
Ghostcrawler is the first of the Crabpeople?
Do they walk like crabs and talk like people?
Sunaseni Apr 19th 2011 11:49AM
"I must fight the crabs!"
"No, Greg, YOU are the crabs."
And then Ghostcrawler was a crustacean.
VSUReaper Apr 19th 2011 11:51AM
Ace is thinking the same thing I was when I saw the picture at first - looks like some fan art from the Dark Tower Series
