My Warrior was fury spec all through wrath, with tanking offspec for certain raid encounters.
So when Cata hit and fury been a bit messed up I decided to lvl as a Tank over the 2 weeks it took me to lvl this toon I absolutely fell in love with tanking 5 man runs. it was a nice change from healing (which is my main) and allowed me to take so much more of the fights in and with the BC type runs back in play with kill orders CC etc, yes the whole run as fast as you can and faceroll everything wrath mentality totally put me off tanking. A tanks job isn’t to stop DPS getting pounded on because they are pulling everything. Anyway whilst levelling and running the normal instances everyone was patient, I would explain what marks I use and assign CC jobs to DPS. Everyone I met was happy to run with it to “my way of tanking” I ran loads of norms while gearing for HC’s, I even waited till I was better geared than the entry requirements. All in all I was loving it and was going to make this toon my main.
So then one Saturday I ran some runs with 2 guildys so my friend could get his last piece for HC iLvl. He got his items and we were ready for some HC’s. I had run all on my healer, although these were done with full guild groups and half of our 10 man raiding team, all on vent. So we queue for HC, Me as Tank and my two guildies as DPS…………. BOOM instant pop, we ran the run, with a few wipes and the healer and new DPS were happy to run things the way I knew. Then one of my guild DPS has to leave so me and the remaining one say bye, repair our gear, gem and enchant our shiny new items and re queue… BOOM another instant pop. We w/ to each other that we will have run most by the end of the day due to instant pops. Then I happens….. half way through my very quick explanation of how I work I get “STFU noob and go” followed by “GOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGO” from the other DPS. The healer w/ me and says sorry but he’s out due to the comments the 2 DPS made. We get a new healer pretty fast so I pop my macros again and the DPS are now screaming for me to go. First pack of mobs I start to mark and these two unload everything they have on two different targets, non of which I marked as first kill, I struggle like mad to get the pull under control but manage it and the healer is oom, they move straight onto the next pack before the healer even has a chance to drink or for me to try and correct them. We are soon doing the grave yard run to them unleashing a torrent of abuse towards me for not holding aggro and the healer for not asking for a mana break. Healer bounces and my guildy w/ they just tried to kick you. When I asked why they just kept shouting “NOOB” and demanded I leave the group. So me and my friend leave. Im pretty pissed off at this point and put it down to what I though would be the 1 in a 100 groups that just wont work. So we go again, mage hunter and shammy healer. Great I though, lots of CC. so I explain marks all’s good, then I assign marks for CC and it all kicks off. Shammy “Dude im the healer, that’s not my job” mage “we don’t need CC”, hunter “Yea CC is for noobs” I explain that im new to tanking these in HC and my gear is not great. I then spend the next 10 mins wiping horribly while being abused left right and centre from these 3, my guildy cant stand it anymore and says we should leave. Not one of them CC’s and didn’t even stick to the kill order, it was just hold aggro and we will Pew Pew them down, our last tank did it fine. After the 15 mins was up I was kicked and my guildy left straight after.
We both felt so demoralised by the last two runs, He didn’t want to run anymore that day and said he was going to lvl an alt and has not ran another HC’s since, bearing in mind he is DPS. I also feeling so low about it haven’t tanked since, and will only run HC’s on my main with full guild runs.
Im sure im not alone in my experience and if it wasn’t for it there would be at least 1 more full time tank running HC’s

Wow that totally turns me off of LFD Heroics...
My first heroic didn't have anyone insulting me, but some of the pulls could have gone better (pulling the fire dudes back in BRC--when I've only AS'd and I'm running to put the mob where I want them to go, DPS immediately unloads on the mob still in amongst all the mini dudes).
It's great isn't it? You try to be responsible for everyone's well being and are only trying to provide a smooth run and you get treated like shit.
I totally feel for you and your guildmate...it just blows my mind that people are amazed when they have long queues and then treat other players like dirt.

Well due to the hours I keep, while I have an awesome guild, I don't get to play with them often, so I'm left using the RDF. I also fell in love with thanking in Cata and pretty much for the reasons you mentioned. Enjoyed it right up to my first few heroics and had almost the exact same experiences you mentioned.
DPS abusing you for trying to be professional about things and generally being unmitigated tards.
Personally though I still love tanking and I still do it. I even tank at least one normal every day even though I don't need to, because I figure it's helping some folks to get an instance in that they normally wouldn't.
It also means though that I'm very, very quick to drop a group if they look like tards. I'll put up with folks that are new. I don't mind explaining fights or marking or CC. I do NOT put up with jerks or 'gogogo'. First time somebody starts being a jerk, I vote to kick, if it doesn't go through, I leave. A 15 minute break won't kill me and it's insta-pop after that.
You have to have a very thick skin to keep tanking pugs in cata. Nothing against you if you don't want to develop one. It shouldn't be a requirement.

How weird, I hadn't really thought about it, but all of my LFD experiences for normals have been much more positive and fun than they were for Heroics. As a DPS or a tank, seems to me the normal runs weren't filled with total jerks, while a lot of the Heroics have been.
I'll admit, I got to the point where if the DPS pulled before I did, I sat there and watched them die, let the group wipe, and laughed at them while pushing my, "stupid" macro telling them not to pull before the tank or expect to tank for me.

Any healer who says CCing isn't his job is a bad healer.
True, that he should be last priority to CC since he has to heal and that can be a pretty hefty task at times. True also that his CC target, if he is given one, should be the first to be popped.
However, I always offer to CC when I run on my shaman and druid (bind ele/hex or roots/sleep). Few take me up on it, but I know that it only helps the group and it especially helps me, the healer, because less things are beating on the tank!
On the other end of the spectrum are the overzealous CCers. I know I'm not the only one who's ran into these. They especially seem common in VP on the last three pulls with the antimagic fields. I ask DPS to go stand at the top of the stairs so I can pull. I mark one or two CCs, we CC pull, they're all headed towards me and holy crap there goes the mage down the stairs he sheeped oh god now they're all on him oh god.
And they think they're HELPING :| That's the worst part.
