Good at raiding? Come work for Blizzard

Have you finished murdering Nefarian on heroic mode? Have Cho'gall and even Sinestra fallen before the might of your raid group? Or are you just looking for a unique and entertaining job? Community Manager Bashiok posted on the official forums that Blizzard is looking for more employees for its QA department. But hold your horses -- Blizzard's specifically looking for people with high-end raiding experience to join its team in order to test future content and provide feedback on heroic raids and class balance.
Currently, only full-time positions are available, and employees will be required to live in Irvine, California, home of the Blizzard headquarters. As Bashiok points out, the Blizzard campus offers amenities like a library, volleyball and basketball courts, a gym, multiple arcades and a movie theatre -- something you're not going to find with an everyday desk job.
Check after the break for the full post from Bashiok -- and check Blizzard's jobs directory to see just what it takes to put in an application.

You have Heroic Nefarian on farm, Cho'gall is a two-headed joke, Al'Akir is a bag of hot wind, and you have detailed documents on how all of these encounters could have been improved. If you're looking for the next great challenge, have you ever though about working for Blizzard?
We have Quality Assurance (QA) positions open and we're specifically looking for those with high-end raiding experience to join our teams, test future content, and provide feedback on Heroic raids, class balance, and general game experiences.

Only full-time positions at our headquarters in Irvine, California are available, so if you're serious about applying be aware that no telecommuting is possible for employment. But with the Blizzard campus offering an on-site cafeteria, library, volleyball and basketball courts, gym, multiple arcades, and movie theater, (not to mention we're 30 minutes from the beach) why would you want to?
Good luck!

Bet your mom's feeling pretty stupid right now saying video games would get you nowhere.
Greg Apr 23rd 2011 10:15AM
My mom lives in Irvine. Do I really want to go back home at 32?
Dragonrose Apr 23rd 2011 10:33AM
For this kind of job...yes.
Ophelos Apr 23rd 2011 6:49PM
@Dragonrose for the kinda of money blizzard is for paying no it's not worth it.. very long hours and odd times for only between $35k to $40k/yr which is about avg for any QA job.
Eirik Apr 25th 2011 7:09PM
How's the cost of living in Irvine? $40k in SF wouldn't go terribly far, but heck if I know, I live in the pacific northwest.

Before anyone says "Sweet I raid and get monies", I'd remind you that this'd be an actual job. You'll probably be expected to give tons of feedback and the raids would be buggier than beta versions.
Amaxe Apr 23rd 2011 9:49AM
Also, it probably wouldn't be like playing WoW, running around until the boss asks if you want to Raid.
I suspect you would be running over and over the same thing with minute changes, knowing that it doesn't matter what drops in the end.
Since I don't raid, I wouldn't even qualify but still, the allure of "Work for Blizz" sounds pretty hard to shake.

Oh shush, it's a dream-job, and you know it.
Rai Apr 23rd 2011 9:26AM
Hatred for living in Europe...rising...
Bill Apr 23rd 2011 9:52AM
You know, not every North American lives in California.
Marcosius Apr 23rd 2011 2:30PM
@Bill, but still, there's the immigration stuff and all not to mention a few thousand kilometres for us Europeans..
Almoderate Apr 23rd 2011 7:13PM
It's a bit of a drive from Birmingham, Alabama as well...
bobikinbobwalker Apr 23rd 2011 9:27PM
Come join us, Rai.
Come join us...

I live about 40 miles away from Irvine. So close, yet so far.
I mean, I *could* commute, but in Southern California, that's one hell of a commute.
theOlster Apr 23rd 2011 9:38AM
This would suck so much...
Buggy encounters, never getting the sense of enjoyment of progression raiding, it would be work. Meh, not for me.
Or maybe I live in the EU and are jealous. ;P
Dan Apr 23rd 2011 11:03AM
Don't see why being from Europe should be a problem. If you are what they are looking for you could still consider relocating to Irvine...
Amaxe Apr 23rd 2011 9:46AM
Oh brother... here's Blizzard catering to the hardcore element of WoW again.

Rubitard Apr 23rd 2011 9:12PM
Wirh actual caterers!
Omegan01 Apr 23rd 2011 9:47AM
I don't think this will get many bites, to be honest. Blizzard's looking for top-end raiders, in driving distance of Irvine CA, who are looking for (if I read it right) a temp job.
That's casting a pretty fine net, and while I applaud Blizzard for putting it out there (let's be honest, not every company would deign to bother) I wonder just how many they'll manage to reel in.
cyanea85 Apr 23rd 2011 10:11AM
I dunno. Given this economy, and the...um...rabid nature of some of Blizzard's fans, I expect they've already gotten more than enough responses already.
