I love patch trailers, and this one is no exception. Get ready for Patch 4.1: Rise of the Zandalari, with this video showing what the Zandalari are up to, the recruiting of the troll tribes, and the lament of the troll cities of Zul'Farrak and Zul'Drak falling. Check it out, get hyped, and get ready for the fight against the Prophet Zul and the Zandalari. WoW Patch 4.1 is on the PTR, and WoW Insider has all the latest news for you -- from previews of the revamped Zul'Aman and Zul'Gurub to new valor point mechanics and new archaeology items.
It will most likely be an act of desperation or an action taken by a smaller group rather than the Zandalari as a whole. I haven't looked into the scripts of these instances, but from the setup it seems that the Zandalari were counting on the Horde and Alliance remaining divided, and when Vol'Jin unites both factions against the trolls it puts them on the defensive. These trolls believe they are essentially fighting for the survival of their race; if they loose the only remaining trolls will be the Darkspear, who they view as weak and cowardly. It is not completely unreasonable that someone in the new empire might turn towards the trolls' most powerful god when faced with the virtual extinction of their race.
It's simple, Vol'jin knows the horde cannot defeat a zandalari backed troll empire alone. He's an opponent of Garrosh's policy of open war with the alliance and as such he is willing to work behind Garrosh's back to achieve his goals. Will Garrosh try to have him imprisoned or executed as a traitor? Maybe, but this act of defiance is Vol'jin's way of helping the Horde and is necessary in his eyes. If you remember Stormrage, Varian Wrynn leads Horde forces against the nightmare. He doesn't like the horde but he has shown himself willing to work with them against the greater evil. As Lo'gosh the gladiator he also commands some respect with the horde as well.
Fair enough, I can see Vol'Jin doin' it for the horde as a whole, behind Garrosh's back. In fact, this might be another step in his declared desire to screw Garrosh over however he can.
Haven't read Stormrage yet (waiting for a 99c deal online, as I don't feel like wasting paper or money on throwaway fiction), but I get yer drift about the leaders coming to their senses for the greater good ... a little bit.
You raise an interesting question: Does King Varian think better of the trolls and Vol'Jin than he does the orcs? Most of his ire towards those w/ green skin, understandably, comes from his experiences in the ring. But he seems to be wise enough a leader to take each situation w/ the horde on its own merits, as exemplified by what you were saying about fighting a greater evil. My ignorance of the novels or some shred of lore buried in an unread quest text may mean this is well-known information, but I don't recall hearing if Varian has any unique opinion of the Darkspears outside of just lumping them in with the orc-led horde.
Uh... They are rendered? I get the feeling you don't quite know what "rendering" means. Just a small hunch, though.
All of the patch videos have always used in-game models. The only cinematics with high-definition models are only made once an expansion: for the expansion opening trailer. ("Imprisoned for ten thousand years...", "My son, the day you were born...", "PAIN. AAAAGONYYYYY.") I don't see why you are complaining about it now.
I just hope the continual down-play doesn't lead somewhere dark. Wrath had no Troll raid, Cata saw the Troll raids ripped out, what's next? Troll extinction in Expansion 4: A New Hogger?
The Zandalari have split. What we're seeing now is a cult that has arisen from one person: Zul. That's the name he goes by and nobody knows what his real birth name is. The few Zandalari that do not follow him do not concern us at this moment. There are questions that remain unanswered at the moment. Why do the Zandalari come now? Why are they trying to rebuild an empire from pieces that are so geologically disparate? I don't see any way it could work. Zul'Aman is too far away from Zul'Gurub or Zandalari Island(which to all reports is somewhere off the coast of Westfall). So what has happened? Why are they heralding the return of Hakkar, a blood god that the Zandalari worked so hard to defeat the first time? From what I've heard about the final encounter of ZG Hakkar is... oh i wouldnt' want to add any spoilers, but it's not what it seems. Still... This is the most hare-brained attempt to re-establish the Troll empire I could ever have imagined. They would have had more success migrating most of the troll populations to one location and rebuilding from there. Not split off into multiple regions and fracturing their forces.
Rise of the Patch that Chases More People Away from WoW to Play Rift...
Seriously, this patch is crap. We have done all of these instances before and they're just recycling it. The gear from ZA is also so hideously ugly that it will literally ugly up Stormwind so much people will leave the game. Can you just imagine the AH with a bunch of people standing around in faux tiki masks?
Meanwhile everything in Rift actually looks like it belongs in a generation of computing power that isn't 10 years old. Everything in the game also looks like it belongs in a fantasy game...

@Plainswander
I'm all for saving money and trees. But you don't have to wait for a cheap online edition; you could borrow Stormrage from the public library.
Just sayin'.

He does have a big statue of a guy called Trollslayer laying around somewhere.
So I'm thinking...no.

I don't really like these trailers, its just cheap cgi, fans can and do better. Render something why don't you.
and could we have it posted in a proper resolution on youtube instead of that low res rubbish.

You can set it to 480p. Also, noob, making rendered videos like the xpac intros take freaking MONTHS

Why are there no female trolls at this meeting?
Sexist trolls?
Matthew Apr 25th 2011 5:34PM
They are all druids in stealthed form. But yeah, good pick up. Troll Female hair is why I once had 3 trolls in my acount, and I'm a guy!
