Mobile guild chat updated for Android app

The World of Warcraft remote app features character sheets, talent calculators, calendar access, item database information, and much more. For a monthly subscription, players can access the in-game auction house, buy and sell wares from their inventories, and collect money from sold auctions. The mobile guild chat feature, currently free, allows players to log in to guild chat and converse with guild members and friends, a great resource for staying in touch with your guild on the go.
WoW Patch 4.1 is on the PTR, and WoW Insider has all the latest news for you -- from previews of the revamped Zul'Aman and Zul'Gurub to new valor point mechanics and new archaeology items.

I wish they did this for the BlackBerry OS.....
(cutaia) Apr 26th 2011 3:09PM
And I wish they would do it for Windows phones. :(

Second that. Blackberry needs love too!!!

Forget phones for a moment, I'm wondering why (to my knowledge), there's been no mention of remote guild chat through a web browser. That functionality exists for the remote AH, why not let those of us who like to carry an actual phone instead of a mini computer use this new tool?

A web API for communicating with the game is highly open to exploitation.
Not to say that mobile phones are paragons of security, but it becomes a little easier to narrow down the security risks on them.

The BB Playbook is meant to be able to run Android apps, who's to say RIM can't tweak it for other Blackberries?

The fact that simplified APIs exist inevitably means that someone is interested in using them outside Blizzard's intent and is busy (or has already been busy) reverse engineering them and hacking together their own code to use them. AH bots come to mind. I'm watching for the first Pidgin plugins for guildchat.

My recruiting officer uses android so she will be happy about this.

My phone just popped up the notice of the update a couple hours ago. Now if only the servers were up so I could try it out!

So nice to let the unfortunate Android Users have a Small Taste of iPhone living.
Falcon6 Apr 26th 2011 3:38PM
I don't much care for the taste of apples.
I much rather enjoy the sweet taste of...
.......
What kind of fruit would an Android OS be? An orange? I like oranges.
Samutz Apr 26th 2011 3:42PM
@Falcon6
Cupcakes, Donuts, Eclairs, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycombs, and potentially Ice Cream Sandwiches

@Samutz
So from what I can tell: iPhone is the appetizer?
So this means Android is the dessert?
And they're all things I love to eat?
I think I like this analogy.
Saltypoison Apr 26th 2011 3:47PM
@Falcon
hmm, Frozen Yogurt, Gingerbread, Honeycomb....
Nawaf Apr 27th 2011 12:33PM
I miss the old days, when Apple, Blackberry, Eclair, Froyo, and Gingerbread were just food.
JerryCooke Apr 26th 2011 3:09PM
Just to clarify; it's live as of this morning on at least selected European servers. I got a pop up on my iPad while checking auctions notifying me of the free trial (despite already being a remote subscriber) and had a fun few minutes being able to /gchat from bed :)
Nate Apr 26th 2011 3:09PM
Took long enough.
Hezzrah Apr 26th 2011 8:49PM
So glad they updated it. Nice to see it's getting closer to the iOS app.
solidus.obscura Apr 26th 2011 3:12PM
It appears there is some added functionality too. It has armory information (just looked up a character) . My realm is still in maintenance... but that is to be expected on patch day.

Ok, can all the Android whiners now shut up? /rant
There is a bug on the current iOS app that does not let one of my characters chat saying "This character is not in a guild". It says that while displaying my guild's logo next to the message. Have seen other people complain about this on the forums and have not see any official word answering this rather big problem.
