The ghost hydra (I named mine Ghidorah) has been such a boon for me. Sitting in the middle of Dalaran, I would find everyone, including Alliance characters inspecting my pet. The nice thing there was they couldn't ask me anything about it. It felt like a big secret. Initially I would get a lot of tells from Horde wanting to know where I got the cool pet. One person even accused me of hacking the game (hey, I got the tip on how to tame it from WowInsider!)
I loved that it had Thunderstomp. It became my solo pet of choice because it could hold a crowd, and when we hunters still had Volley, the two of us could do some damage.
Now he's a ferocity pet, no longer tenacity. I'm not sure how I like the different abilities. I don't know if I want everyone able to get hydras. At least they can't get one like mine. In that respect, I'll still be rare.

Don't know why your post got rated down. Happy you got a unique pet. And I hope you continue to enjoy it.
I would note that on my first run into Zul'Gurub I hit beastial lore on the hydra under the bridge before the first boss and it came back as tamable. I didn't want to make my group wait for me but I'm gonna give it a try later tonight.

Funny, it appears to be fine now.
