New Children's Week pets and quests
Wowhead News has unearthed some interesting additions to the Children's Week holiday, which starts this Sunday shortly after Noblegarden 2011 ends. For anyone worried about the meta-achievement For the Children, the achievements associated with the holiday haven't changed (more's the pity re: School of Hard Knocks), but the quest lines in classic Azeroth have.
If you're Alliance, the brand-new quest series starts with Children's Week, offered by Orphan Matron Nightingale in Stormwind; if you're Horde, it starts with Children's Week, offered by Orphan Matron Battlewail in Orgrimmar. Both new quest lines will see you surveying the changes to the local landscape in Cataclysm, in addition to meeting important lore figures and paying your respects to the dead. Afterwards, you'll go out for the traditional ice cream treat and then visit a local vendor to get kites to fly. Wowhead News has more details on the individual quests if you don't mind spoiling yourself.
The quest lines end with the offer of a new noncombat pet in addition to the usual Piglet's Collar, Rat Cage, and Turtle Box -- a new Snail's Shell! It looks like the Outland quest series will also offer a new pet called Legs, though there don't appear to be any new quests there. Experienced orphan herders thus have a reason to pick up a tyke again this year, and with any luck, the Wrath of the Lich King variant will be available even if you've done it before.

God dam Northrend pet better be there... /grumble grumble.
Amaxe Apr 30th 2011 7:32PM
I do hope they fixed it. Of course, being Mercenary of Sholazar with the Frenzyheart the last to be exalted, I don't know if the oracles really want me or not.
laeleiweyn Apr 30th 2011 7:36PM
Northrend quests are there. At least here in Europe.
Noyou Apr 30th 2011 10:57PM
It's not the quests being there. It's the ability for people who already did them to be able to do them again to pick up the 2nd pet. /Crosses fingers. I was pretty put out last year when I couldn't pick up the Oracle pet. We will find out in about a day ;)
lolikitty May 1st 2011 5:21AM
Yes you can now adopt a baby Wolvar if you went with the Oracle one last time and vice versa, huzzah! You even have a warning saying you can't have both, chose wisely etc ...

That's awesome. That'll give people who have the previous pets something to look forward to. I guess I kind of have to shut up about my whole "Blizz doesn't make pets unless they're for the online store" theory as well.
Amaxe Apr 30th 2011 7:36PM
Of course, if Blizz ran the show like Mythic, they'd probably make the hard to get stuff purchaseable...
Noyou Apr 30th 2011 10:58PM
Blizz put out a whole bunch of pets this patch including the winterspring cub you can buy for 50g (everlook) and the panther cub you can get with the new quests at lvl 85.

Yeah, except this is my FUUUUUUUUUU face at having to choose between Veteran Nanny (finannnnllllyyy) and the new pet.
Fortunately the Outland one isn't the snail or I might just die.
lolikitty May 1st 2011 5:23AM
Tribunal, the Outland one is Legs, like those things in Zangamarsh with the big erm ... legs?
Ice May 1st 2011 5:39AM
"Yeah, except this is my FUUUUUUUUUU face at having to choose between Veteran Nanny (finannnnllllyyy) and the new pet. "
Same here...same here.
Maybe next year.

Seriously, the School of Hard Knocks achievement can go die in a fire.
Jaq Apr 30th 2011 7:42PM
This, so much this. I'm decent if not great in battlegrounds and I'm not even bothering again.
ChasW Apr 30th 2011 7:56PM
I got the meta with Hard Knocks, and I agree with you. No reason to put further people through that horror.
MusedMoose Apr 30th 2011 9:10PM
Also agreed. The only reason I got that achievement was because I got lucky in Eye of the Storm and someone dropped a flag right near a tower I was defending, and because we managed to keep flag-trading going in Alterac Valley in between rude people from both sides thinking the gathering meant easy kills. *eyeroll*
If Blizzard would just change the achievement to "Get 50 honorable kills with your orphan at your side" or something, like the other holiday PvP achievements, it would make this so much easier for a lot of people.
Granted, I still wonder why we're bringing the orphans into the battlegrounds in the first place, but I know better than to look for logic in a game that sent me a dragon in the mail. ^_^
Shaz Apr 30th 2011 9:31PM
that meta makes me want to cry. im almost done with the its been a long strange trip...
this will be my biggest hurdle...
Sleutel Apr 30th 2011 9:41PM
Is there ANYBODY who likes this achievement?
PvE fans hate it because they have to go into BGs. PvP fans hate it because they have to put up with a bunch of people doing things to get achievements that actually harm the team, who probably suck at PvP besides.
It's a lose/lose.
rask May 1st 2011 12:54AM
I do like this achievement, because it makes other BG achievements slightly easier to get for a week.
Manadar May 1st 2011 3:55AM
I like it because it's easy even for a raider like me, but still you people treat it like it's something hard. Feeling smug and superior to others is a great feeling, that's why I come here so often.
Baba May 1st 2011 4:30AM
I liked the SoHK achievement, the only tricky one was capping an AV tower, and that just required me to perfect the mount-up at the start to make sure I was in the lead. I did all of the achievments with no help, no PvP gear, and no PvP experience outside of battlegrounds. Get over yourselves, it really isn't hard O.o
Once I'd done it, I got to enjoy the shooting gallery that was EotS on my PvP character.
