Blizzard releases Cenarion Hatchling pet for Japan earthquake relief

Cenarion Hatchling for Japan Earthquake Relief
Introducing the latest World of Warcraft companion up for adoption in the online Pet Store: the wild and noble Cenarion Hatchling! This little critter is the twin of the rare Hippogryph Hatchling pet players could randomly encounter in the first World of Warcraft Trading Card Game set, Heroes of Azeroth -- and he's emerged from the forests of Azeroth to lend a helping talon to some friends in need. For every Cenarion Hatchling purchased between now and July 31, 100% of the $10 USD adoption fee will be donated to the American Red Cross's Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami relief efforts. This support will enable the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, emotional support, and other assistance to victims of this disaster.

Thank you Blizz! It's to charity to a favorite county of mine, and I will definitely will be getting one as soon as I'm hopping on to play!

That was an easy purchase decision.
Whatever.... May 2nd 2011 10:53PM
Bought one for myself, my son, and my spouse. Well done, Blizz. Glad it's 100% donation.

I applaud the efforts that the development team has done, but it's not enough. I'm dismayed and vexed by the trend of microtransactions that are becoming an industry standard. In Japanese culture, cranes are a powerful symbol of health and well-wishes. In fact, the Japanese people believe that anyone who makes 1,000 origami cranes will have a wish granted. If we're doing something for charity, let's include the players who are under 18, and those who can't afford to give $10. I would have been more gobsmacked by an in-game event where a golden crane was presented by Sasaki (or the pandaren), and the ability for players to make and send paper cranes to friends. That has more texture and meaning. Microtransactions, you say? That's heresy! Only Korean games and Activision do that, Bobby Kotick can go f-- oh wait, I'll get banned if I even suggest that everyone except shareholders want Bobby Kotick to go fly a kite. Micro transactions also makes marketing even more important then development, and can create policies that where the company used to do something for free, they'll now charge you later. if you promote companies that try to find new ways to charge you more, then they will continue to do it, and by the time that customers resent the charges, the company will be laughing all the way to the bank. When it comes to YOUR enjoyment , a player should not allow a company carte blanche. So, no, I won't give money to where a bunch of lazy people switched colors on a previous design done by the TCG team, and then try to write off the money earned by players as a tax deduction for 2012.

Waaaaaaah!
I had this pet from the loot cards... Now it's less special. :(
But it's a worthy cause - and I'll still buy this one as well... :)

Ill prob get down-rated for this - which is ok, but...
Why no support/relief for people who are struggling/suffering in the recent devastation of the system of tornadoes that destroyed several towns and peoples lives in the south? I just got home from Alabama, and there are towns where there was ZERO aid, and they are pulling out bodies and crying for help.
I would stay as long as possible if it weren't for work restrictions - its just terrible.
We're so quick to jump to the aid of foreign issues, but I think its time that we start taking care of our own as well. We cannot forget our own.
Props to Blizzard still for at least going out of their way for a good cause, but lets get some help down here too on the home front - many, many people can use it.

The whole southern thing has already had a thread for it. Several, actually. To Sum up: Other southerners (including myself) said that a death toll of 25,500 is a little more significant than what has happened in the south, someone spoke of the aid that the south is getting (as in, they are a southerner, they're seeing it), and lastly, the Red Cross is great in that it's international and it goes where it's needed. Actually, that's not lastly, there were some great other points made by people but you can read the threads. People aren't forgetting the south, but it's completely irrational to compare it to what happened in Japan. Both were big acts of nature, but the comparison of death tolls, destruction, and sheer impact on the areas are just not even in the same league. I do encourage people to donate to charity organizations for where their heart says to. Donate to Best Friends (bestfriends.org) if you're concerned about animals caught in storm zones (gotta love people who keep dogs chained up and don't release them when it starts to flood...and by gotta love, I mean, I despise them), or the Red Cross also has a donation page that lets you decide where your money will go (https://american.redcross.org/site/SPageServer?pagename=cogp_main&s_affiliatecode=43552&s_formid=4866&JServSessionIdr004=mzckj7eaz2.app296a), and those who have the stomach to handle it, giving blood is ALWAYS a good thing! It's free for you, and there's always a need for it. Hospitals and disaster areas never have enough.
Blizzard simply offered a pet to try to help a country get back on its feet, yet so many people are going "But it's not where -I- think it should have gone!". If I were to pick a different location for the money to have gone, as a southerner, it STILL wouldn't be the American South. It'd have been to bring more donations to Haiti, who has a death toll of 230,000. Yes. That comma is in the right place. Yes. It is that many zeros. It's a horrific tragedy. But Blizzard chose Japan, who avoided higher death tolls just because of their precautionary systems already in place (that really amounted to everything), and I think they were equally justified in that. Look up refugee centers for Japan on Google. What they're going through is just not something matched in the south right now. It's not a matter of "looking after our own." It's a matter of looking at humanity as a whole and helping it. http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5hxa69uOeNFe_xP3QlTtzNo2wopzw?docId=CNG.59c9179dd6dee0a41928bcf240caa589.3c1

Bought it as soon as I saw it would benefit the relief effort--great idea from Blizz.

I'm ok with an old model being used for charity. It was rare enough and I wasn't willing to spend ~$50+ on the TCG card to get it, so to me being able to instead donate $10 to charity to get it was a way better idea.
